On Water Podcast

In this episode of the On Water Podcast, I share three mental health tips as a psychotherapist who loves Jesus and wants faith and psychology to integrate well. First, in conflict, I practice clarifying intent while also correcting behavior, so I can extend grace and still set boundaries. Second, when I struggle with identity or low self-esteem, I ask where the belief started—often in childhood—and do the deeper work of uprooting lies, forgiving, and grounding my identity in Christ. Third, for anxiety and “what if” thoughts, I follow the thought to the end to find safety, and I calm my body through silence, solitude, prayer, and rest.

In this episode, I'm sharing what God has been doing in my life and encouraging listeners to take steps of faith. I recount leading worship at my church’s youth conference, Awakening, themed “Unbound,” focused on breaking chains, strongholds, and generational curses. Despite intense preparation, my team faced spiritual attacks like sleeplessness and physical pain, and I lost his voice days before the event. After waking at 5 a.m. to pray, I felt God tell me to “just show up” and trust God to sustain me, reflecting on Peter walking on water and Romans 12:3 about faith God distributes. Reflecting on the question “Is He worthy?”—how lifestyle, service, and choices reveal Jesus’ worth—contrasting Judas with the disciples, referencing Proverbs 22 and Joshua 1, and urging perseverance, service, and courage.

"Be still, and know that I am God." Psalm 46:10. How often do we take the opportunity to be still? How many of us prioritize being still and contemplating who God is? As we live in our busy societies, we get lost in the desire to be productive which takes away from our need for rest. In rest, we are able to sit with the truths of who God is and participate in the joy of appreciating His creation. Rest and sabbath is a crucial part of who we are and how we were called to live our lives. However, we won't really prioritize it if we don't know what true rest is. God has already equipped us with his strength and protection to fight the battles we face. When we don't know what to do or where to go, God sustains us and gives us exactly what we need. But then why do we hide, seek out idols and lean on the temporary relief the world provides instead of Him? In this episode, we talk about the many ways we can internally and externally reject God as our protector. Sometimes when we feel conviction from the Holy Spirit, we get discouraged and condemned. However, "the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son (Hebrews 12:6). In this episode, I go through the different ways God has been convicting me through the passages in Romans 12. Transformation and renewal of the mind doesn't just happen. It occurs when we obey the uncomfortable convictions of the Holy Spirit. There are no "bad" Christians, just disobedient ones who don't turn back to the Lord. There are no lessons. No answers. How can we feel such torment in our minds when Jesus is supposed to be our peace? As someone who is in the mental health field while also wrestling with depression, this is a question I’ve thought about a lot.
