The Avengers
"At Long Last" - In our review of The Avengers, we praise Joss Whedon’s handling of all the characters, disagree on whether or not Mark Ruffalo made a good Bruce Banner, and appreciate all the humor. But the laughter dies down when two of us get into the biggest fight in the show’s 62-episode history.
-
173
Watchmen
"Giant Blue Member" - With all the talk about The Avengers, it’s easy to forget about the other superhero ensemble movie from a few years ago. In this episode, we revisit Zack Snyder’s Watchmen – a movie that Neal has long had a hate-love relationship with – and discuss the handling of all the characters, as well as the challenges it faced in trying to succeed as both an adaption and as a movie.
-
172
Marvel Movies
"Drenched Panties" - In preparation for The Avengers we assembled all the movies that lead up to it and re-watched them. In this episode, we gush about Iron Man, talk about what worked and what didn’t in The Incredible Hulk, and lament that Iron Man 2 just keeps getting worse. We also revisit Thor and Captain America to see if our opinions on them have changed since we reviewed them last year.
-

The Oscars / Hugo / The Artist
"Bingsley's Oscar" - The fallout from The Artist winning Best Picture at the Oscars continues! In this episode, we debate whether or not the academy darling deserved to take home the top prize, talk about other notable winners (and losers) from the Oscars, and review both Hugo and The Artist.
-

Source Code 1.1
"Redux" - With this episode, we officially lose our right to criticize Hollywood whenever it remakes a movie. Why? Because this episode is a remake of our first episode, when we reviewed Source Code. We decided to remake it because A) we had no idea what we were doing back then, and B) good movies stopped coming out. So, sit back and relax as we praise Jake Gyllenhaal, ponder if this movie was trying to be The Matrix, and scratch our heads over Jeffrey Wright’s bizarre performance.
-

Premium Rush
"Forgot My Bullets" - We’re the three people who went and saw Premium Rush. In our review, we praise the fun performances of Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Michael Shannon, chat about the movie’s nonlinear story and stylistic flourishes, and have an episode-long debate about whether or not the movie feels like it was made 10 years ago. Naturally, all of this culminates in one of us scoring it a point shy of perfection.
-

Kick-Ass 2
"U mad bro?" - Mike Espy from Welp, That Sucked fills in for Neal as we discuss Kick-Ass 2. We start off by agreeing that the movie isn’t as violent as it’s made out to be, lament that Jim Carrey didn’t have more screentime, praise the cast, delve into spoilers to discuss the movie’s last act, and finish by surprising Mike with the news that there was a post-credits scene. Also: An old friend rejoins the show.
-
167
Elysium
"Hippos Are Cool" - Kat Jovey from 3KB joins us to discuss Neill Blomkamp’s new movie, Elysium. While we enjoyed the dazzling production design and Sharlto Copley’s unhinged performance as Kruger, we all agree that the heavy-handedness of the story brings down the whole movie.
-
166
World War Z
“Zombies On A Plane” - We sink our teeth into World War Z and praise Brad Pitt’s heroic character, debate whether or not the zombies were depicted well and agree that the movie’s writers never came up with good solutions whenever they wrote themselves into corners. Also, we give out quick scores for This Is The End.
-
165
Trance
“James McAvoy Must Suffer” - We were entranced by Danny Boyle’s latest movie, Trance. In our discussion, we praise Boyle as a filmmaker, try to pinpoint what movie(s) it reminded us of, remember what a great actor James McAvoy is, chat about how it’s much more than a crime movie, and engage in a spoiled-filled discussion toward the end about its twist ending.
-
164
After Earth
“Vanity Project” - In our review of After Earth, we share some thoughts on M. Night Shyamalan’s career, the hits and misses of the movie’s unusual costuming and production design, and all agree that this Smith family vanity project was a bad idea from the start.
-
163
The Host
“Icky” - We praise Andrew Niccol’s sometimes competent direction, a committed performance by William Hurt, and the surprisingly effective score, but little else in our review of the latest Stephenie Meyer film adaption, The Host.
-
162
Olympus Has Fallen
"Pretty Okay” - In our review of Olympus Has Fallen, we praise director Antoine Fuqua for populating the movie with good action scenes, but come away thinking that everything else was just OK. -
161

-
152
Birdman & Big Hero 6

-
151
Interstellar

-

In our discussion of Sam Raimi’s third and final Spider-Man feature, we agree that the movie starts off promising, but goes downhill quickly once Peter Parker turns evil from the black goo.
