PLANETBEER.TV Podcasts

Craft beer is full of weird and wacky names, and we start each episode by doing our very best to add to that. Picking from a list of fictional beer names, discussing the story behind it and allocating it to a brewery. The Fantasy Beer Name Podcast is a craft beer podcast brought to you by the YouTube channel, planetbeer.tv Join Christian and Paul for a casual chat over a couple of schooners, as they discuss the latest in the craft beer scene - as well as the latest on the YouTube channel. We’ll also be rolling out some special guests to discuss industry matters.

    The Wrestlification of Beer Podcasting

After months of podcasting silence, we thought we'd do a bit of a warm-up episode to dust off those rambling skills. And, well... mission accomplished, because over a couple of DIPAs from Deep Fried Beers, the conversation takes a swan dive off the top turnbuckle onto a table of drawing pins. Enjoy.   The Tip Jar: https://www.patreon.com/posts/buy-us-pint-156614294

Episode 25: We Turned a Craft Beer Question into a D&D Campaign

We forgot to answer a question in the last podcast, so we've taken this episode to its illogical conclusion - a Dungeons & Dragons style mini-campaign. Along the way, we ramble over a new brewery to us, a style we've never tried before, and we discuss Pete Brown's 8 best breweries in the UK.

    Death Row Beers: Jonny Garrett

Jonny Garrett, beer writer and co-founder of The Craft Beer Channel, finds himself humorously detained in our secret underground facility… all because of a controversial beer opinion that could enrage "Guinn-fluencers" everywhere. In the very first episode of our new series, Jonny talks us through his Death Row beers - each one tied to a personal story, cherished moment, or formative memory. We also talk about Jonny’s important campaign to get Cask Ale listed as Intangible Cultural Heritage. You can sign the petition here: 👉 https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/716686

Premiumisation: the Great Macro Beer Conspiracy?

In this episode of Beerpolitik, Chris is back with Mark Reynolds from The Hop Vault, diving into the rising price of a pint. The average pint’s now over a fiver - but what does that actually mean? We look at how macro breweries are driving prices up, how craft beer pricing compares, and whether the pint even makes sense as a measure anymore. So join us as we go beyond inflation and take a deep dive into branding, beer culture, and why we’re all paying more at the bar.

Episode 21: Should you drink a beer from the correct glass?

    Is CAMRA out of touch?

We criticise CAMRA from time to time - now we’re giving them the mic. In this episode, we sit down with the vice chair of our local branch to ask: where does CAMRA fit in the future of beer? Episode 20: CAMRA Gets It Right?! Plus Star Wars Beer Names & Islay Madness

Chaos is brewing in the kitchen. After one too many DIPAs, two Planet Beer scoundrels are scrambling to name an Emperor's beer in honour of feline overlord and Dark Side muse, Steve the Cat. On the storm-lashed island of Islay, a band of smugglers embark on a whisky-fuelled pilgrimage, returning with tales of peat, peril, and perhaps too many oysters. In the brewing systems of the Outer Rim North West, alliances shift as Sureshot, Rivington and State of Kind trade personnel and destinies. And in a rare twist, the scoundrels raise a glass to CAMRA - who’ve launched a proton torpedo across the bows of the Carlsberg-Marstons Death Star. The soul of cask beer hangs in the balance... Is craft beer too cheap?

You can watch the stream back over at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5H0CAbXpDDI - but really, now the podcast version is here, why would you want to look at us? -- **PLEASE NOTE: this episode is an audio rip from the live stream, where we were both sat around one mic. Episode 07: Scooters to Hooters

The Fantasy Beer Name Podcast returns for 2024. A double serving of Baron’s 10% TIPA is all that’s needed to grease the wheels; as Chris and Paul discuss recent trips to Nottingham and Amsterdam, and the channel’s debut live stream. In Steve Power’s The Doom Bar, they discuss the Carlsberg-Mikkeller deal and North Brew’s recent upheaval. This is all punctuated with tales of drunken scooter trips and fledgling careers in porn.     Beer lineup: - Too Much TIPA (Baron Brewing) - Putty 2024 (Verdant) - Farmhouse Belgian Saison (Vibrant Forest)

Episode 06: The Swig Has Turned (with Olly from Brewser)

This week, we wheel out the Guest Mic and put Olly from Brewser in front of it. As well as joining in with Chris and Paul’s inane beery jibber jabber, he also talks about Brewser’s most ambitious project yet and shares some fun little insights and anecdotes from behind the scenes (and some exclusives). We lube the wheels with a Verdant x Floc DIPA and a 13% Barley Wine from Chapter Brewing.   In the fantasy ad break, Olly provides sidehustling beer geeks the perfect beverage for a hectic lifestyle.

    Episode 05: YouTube Dude Face

Don’t be fooled by the teaser.. This week, we do have our most serious beer talk yet. In part one, some unfinished fantasy beer name business is concluded, Chris reveals how close we came to missing an episode and our next brewery trip is revealed. Then in part two, we have a bumper edition of the Misery Corner (aka Steve Power’s Doom Bar) where Paul gives us the inside story on his recently closed bottle shop & the trials and tribulations faced in the beer retail industry. Expect some serious insights with moderate levity.

  34. 4

    Episode 04: Billboard Foreigner

Chris and Paul are drunk, as they reap the consequences of recording podcast episodes in a bar. On the agenda this week is their recent trip to Crossover Blendery in Hitchen. And Paul discusses his birthday trip to Sheffield with its vibrant beer scene. We feature beers from New Invention & a whopping 15.1% from Wander Beyond. In the fantasy ad break, a new toy craze for craft beer nerds kickstarts a potential cinematic brewniverse.

  35. 3

    Episode 03: Bum Egg

In this loose-lipped, mildly erratic episode, we have the big Baron debrief featuring some exclusive content which didn't make the recent edits. Shot on location at the Hop Vault in Stourbridge, Chris and Paul have an in-depth discussion about their relatively surreal trip to Baron. Before moving on to talk about their first invite only beer launch with Attic Brew Co. in Birmingham, and why they’re not corporate shills.

  36. 2

Episode 02: Wall to Wall Dads

We kick off episode two with some wild, unfounded speculation about a certain brewery’s taproom. We discuss the latest lager tasting video, the unfortunate demise of a famous American brewery and we ponder choice and innovation in craft beer. All of this over beers from Polly’s and Overtone.

  37. 1

    Episode 01: Gaslit by YouTube

The lads finally try their hand at the podcast game. In the first episode, Christian and Paul discuss a local beer festival, a trip to Liverpool, burning pubs and the recent alcohol duty reform in the UK and its implications for the craft beer scene. All of this over a some cheap German supermarket lager and a brand new Wylam DIPA.
