Week 6 — Why Salvation Is by Grace (Ephesians 2:1–10)

In this study, we walk through one of the clearest passages in Scripture on salvation. Paul shows us that apart from Christ, we were not just struggling—we were spiritually dead. But then come two of the most hope-filled words in the Bible: “But God…”We’ll explore what it means to be saved by grace through faith, why salvation cannot be earned, and how God not only forgives—but transforms. This lesson highlights the beauty of grace, removes all boasting, and points us to the reality that our salvation begins with God and results in a new life lived for His purposes.

    The Supremacy of Christ In All Things — Colossians 1 15–20 – 1 18 26

In this message from Colossians 1:15–20, we behold the absolute supremacy of Jesus Christ in all things. He is the image of the invisible God, the Creator and Sustainer of all things, the head of the church, the firstborn from the dead, and the only one through whom sinners can be reconciled to God.This sermon calls us not to merely add Christ to our lives, but to reorder our lives around Him. When Christ is truly in His rightful place, everything else begins to make sense. In this message, we are challenged to consider:• Is Christ central in my life, or have I pushed Him to the side?• Does He have first place in my priorities, decisions, and worship?• Am I trusting in Christ alone, or subtly adding other things in His place?Colossians 1:15–20 reminds us that Jesus is not one part of the picture. He is supreme over creation, supreme over the church, and fully sufficient for our redemption.

Part 2: The Wisdom of the Cross — God’s Power in What the World Calls Foolishness (1 Corinthians 1:26–31)

In Part 2 of this Bible study through 1 Corinthians 1:26–31, we see that God not only saves through what the world calls foolishness—the cross—but also calls and uses the kind of people the world often overlooks. Paul reminds the Corinthians that not many were wise, powerful, or of noble birth, yet God chose the foolish, weak, and lowly to shame the strong and wise, so that no one may boast in His presence. In this study, we look at what it means that Christ has become for us wisdom from God—our righteousness, sanctification, and redemption—and why the only proper response is to boast in the Lord. True wisdom is humble dependence, and true boasting is worship.

Part 1: The Message of the Cross (1 Corinthians 1:18–25)

In this first session of The Wisdom of the Cross, we walk through 1 Corinthians 1:18–25 and explore why Paul says the message of the cross is foolishness to some, but the power of God to those who are being saved. We look at how the cross becomes the great dividing line of humanity, why it confronts human pride, and how God reveals His wisdom through what the world calls weakness. This live Bible study was taught at Pleasant View Community Church and includes real interaction and discussion from those in attendance.

Give Me This Mountain: Finishing Well for the Glory of God (Joshua 14)

In this men’s devotional from Joshua 14, we look at the life of Caleb—who, at 85 years old, was still trusting God and asking for more, not less. While others slowed down or settled, Caleb said, “Give me this mountain,” standing on the promise God had made to him decades earlier. This message is a reminder that following Christ is not something we retire from. God calls us to remain faithful over time—to trust Him fully, to resist drifting, and to finish well.Whether you’re in the middle of life or have walked with the Lord for many years, this passage challenges us with a simple truth:Finishing well isn’t about having a perfect story—it’s about staying faithful to the Lord all the way through.

Week 5 — Why Jesus Is the Only Way (John 14:1–11)

In Week 5 of our Why We Believe series, we turn to one of the most important—and often challenging—claims Jesus ever made: “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” (John 14:6)In a world that encourages many paths and personal truth, Jesus speaks with clarity—not in confrontation, but in comfort to troubled hearts. In this study, we walk through John 14:1–11 and see that Jesus does not merely point to a way—He presents Himself as the way. We explore what it means that access to the Father comes not through a system, but through a Person. We also consider why this claim is exclusive in truth, yet inclusive in invitation—and how the identity of Jesus as the Son of God shapes everything we believe about salvation.Whether you’re wrestling with questions about truth, or seeking deeper confidence in your faith, this study points us back to the One who doesn’t just give directions—but gives Himself.

Week 4 — Why the Resurrection Matters (1 Corinthians 15:12–20)

In this study, we explore why the resurrection of Jesus is not just an important belief—but the foundation of the Christian faith. Walking through 1 Corinthians 15, we see how Paul uses powerful logic to show that if Christ is not raised, everything falls apart—but because He is risen, everything changes. This lesson strengthens our confidence in the gospel and calls us to live in light of a living Savior.

Week 3 – Why We Believe in God (Romans 1:18–25)

Week 3 of Why We Believe explores Romans 1:18–25, where Paul explains that God has made Himself known to all people through creation. This study focuses on the clarity of God’s revelation in the world around us, humanity’s response of suppressing the truth, the reality of being without excuse, and how worship is never removed—only redirected. It also highlights that belief in God is not a blind leap, but a response to what God has already revealed.

Week 2 - Why We Trust the Bible (2 Timothy 3:14–17)

Week 2 of Why We Believe explores 2 Timothy 3:14–17, where Paul points Timothy back to the Scriptures as the foundation for faith and life. This study focuses on the continuity of biblical truth, the role of Scripture in salvation, the divine origin of God’s Word, its sufficiency for every good work, and its power to shape and transform the believer.

  11. -7

Week 1 — Why We Must Be Ready (1 Peter 3:13–17)

Week 1 of Why We Believe explores 1 Peter 3:13–17, where Peter calls believers to be ready to give a reason for the hope within them. This study focuses on the lordship of Christ in the heart, responding faithfully under pressure, and explaining the Christian hope with gentleness and respect.
