otC 222 Keep Your Heart
Keep Your Heart Proverbs 4:23 Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Proverbs 4:23 Proverbs 4:23 NKJV – Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life. NASB – Watch over your heart with all diligence, For from it flow the springs of life. NLB – Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts. Good News The gospel is not just an offer for forgiveness and a demand for holiness Both forgiveness and holiness are made available by faith through grace Sin can be cancelled and conquered! The Holy Spirit gives the ability and the appetite (desire) to live right The gift of God must be received Forgiveness and holiness We are not justified now and sanctified later I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. Ezekiel 36:26 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. Galatians 2:20 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:1-2 So this I say, and affirm together with the Lord, that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind, being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart; and they, having become callous, have given themselves over to sensuality for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness. Ephesians 4: 17-19 Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting. Psalm 139:23-24 Genuine Faith Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Colossians 1:13-14 "He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins." This victory insured that countless numbers would be delivered from the dominion of darkness and transferred to the kingdom of Christ I Corinthians 10:13 "No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man" Believers will not be tempted beyond our power of resistance Ephesians 6:11-18 The believer has God's armor—the biblical gospel, integrity, peace through Christ, faith in Christ, prayer—as spiritual security Satan and demonic forces are active, but they are limited. Nehemiah 4:9 "Nevertheless we made our prayer to our God, and because of them we set a watch against them day and night." Expect difficulty and resistance when you do what is right! I Corinthians 16:9 "For a great and effective door has opened to me, and there are many adversaries." I John 4:4 "You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world."

Guard Your Heart Proverbs 4:23 Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Proverbs 4:23 God's Part & Our Part I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. Ezekiel 36:26 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. Psalm 119:11 Key Words: Proverbs 4:23 NLT "Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life." Guard or Keep Ephesians 6:10-18 Heart Genesis 2:7 Course or Proceed Matthew 12:30-37 John 6:63 Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting. Matthew 4:4 Caution – Ephesians 4:17-19 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. I John 2:1-2 God's Provision Leviticus 4:2-3 O.T. – "Bring your lamb" a temporary remedy He fulfilled His promise in the N.T. and said to "Trust the Lamb" salvation, a permanent remedy Hebrews 4:14-16 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. otC 219 Life Giving Spirit
A Life Giving Spirit I Corinthians 15:45 "Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven." Acts 1:9-11 "And coming to Him as to a living stone which has been rejected by men, but is choice and precious in the sight of God, you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For this is contained in Scripture: "Behold, I lay in Zion a choice stone, a precious corner stone, And he who believes in Him will not be disappointed." This precious value, then, is for you who believe" I Peter 2:4-7a Our task, as image bearing, God-loving, Christ-shape, Spirit-filled Christians, following Christ and shaping our world, is to announce redemption to a world that has discovered its fallenness, to announce healing to a world that has discovered its brokenness, to proclaim love and trust to the world that knows only exploitation, fear and suspicion. --- N.T. Wright The 1st Adam Old Adam – Old Order Romans 5:12 I Corinthians 15:22 I Corinthians 15:45 When the 1st Adam fell, he pulled everything down with him As a result, two things were clearly communicated to Adam and Eve: You cannot stay – you must go! You cannot live – you must die! Everything became temporary and they became mortal The 2nd Adam New Adam – New Order The new and last Adam came into this world to bring the promise of a new and eternal order for God's creation The Son of Man, Christ Jesus the Lord He came and died, but rising from the grave, He lives forever that He might be the head of the new creation! "And coming to Him as to a living stone which has been rejected by men, but is choice and precious in the sight of God, you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ." I Peter 2:4-5 We are pushing against the Fall "The first Man, Adam, became a living soul. The last Adam became a life-giving spirit." Romans 8:18-25

The Gift of Prophesy I Corinthians 14:3 The gift of prophecy Edifies = build up Exhorts = stir up Comforts = lift up John 16:8-11 It is the ministry of the Holy Spirit to convict of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment to come Prophecy can bring to light to the secret motives of the heart The gift of prophecy operates when: I Samuel 10:5-6 – there is worship I Samuel 10:9-10 – when others prophets are present Acts 19:1-6 – when hands are laid on you by ministers Prophetic misconceptions! Preaching – divination – futures Seven Ways to Judge Prophecy By their fruits you shall know them - Matthew 7:16-18, 20 Does it glorify Christ? - John 16:14 - I Corinthians 12:3 - I John 4:1-2 Does it agree with the Scriptures? - Isaiah 8:20 "To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them." Are their prophecies fulfilled? - Deuteronomy 18:22 - Some prophecies are not of God even though they may come to pass - The benchmark remains that all prophecies should exalt the Lord Jesus Is the prophecy disjointed or confused? - Isaiah 28:13 - True prophecy is line upon line and precept upon precept Do the prophecies produce liberty or bondage? - Romans 8:15 "For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again" All believers have an unction (anointing) within them that tells them when something is wrong - I John 2:20, 27 - Prophecies should witness with our spirit Different Kinds of Tongues The supernatural utterance through the power of the Holy Spirit in a person that manifests as spiritual language These languages may be existent in the world They may be revived from some past culture They may be "unknown" They may be a heavenly language 3 Types of Tongues: I Corinthians 14:2 – An unknown tongue unto God I Corinthians 14:2; Acts 2:6 – A known tongue that is a sign to unbelievers I Corinthians 14:15 – A tongue that is understood through interpretation and edifies the church The Unknown Tongue It edifies you (I Corinthians 14:4; Jude 20) It assists you in prayer (Romans 8:26-27) It stirs up the prophetic ministry (I Cor 14:5) It refreshes your soul (Isaiah 28:11-12) It gives victory over the devil (Ephesians 6:18) It helps you worship in the Spirit (I Corinthians 14:14-15; Hebrews 2:12) Interpretation of Tongues A supernatural verbalization and subsequent interpretation of an unknown tongue. This gift operates out of the mind of the Spirit rather than out of the mind of man. Not the same thing as translation of tongues The interpreter never understands the tongue If you pray in tongues, you should pray that you will also interpret - not only for the benefit of others - but for your own benefit as well. The Gifts I Corinthians 12:4-6 "There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all."
