Dystopian Rhythm Podcast 114 - Mike Derer

Mike Derer: Just a man with a dick and a dream. Initially raised by feral wolves, he transcended the forest and made his way into innercity. From there, he made moves in the rap game before stumbling upon an illegal warehouse rave party one fateful evening. Once inside, he couldn't believe what he heard. He had to back up off of it and set it his cup down, house music and chronic, "Boy I'm fucked up now!" he thought. From that moment forward, he was inspired to become the biggest EDM DJ Ibiza has ever seen. The road has taken its toll. Many contenders have challenged him in the arena but none have lived to talk about it. One evening in a Walmart parking lot, he saved a baby from a burning car. In the process, it left his body horribly scarred. It took years of corrective surgery for Mike to get better. "We can rebuild him, we have the technology" some fucking "Doctor" said. So they did. This brings us to today, Mike Derer is the half-human, half-plastic techno robot machine of the future, but he is here early...TODAY. - Dustin Zahn Hodge - Flashback [Hotline] Inigo Kennedy - Requiem (Efdemin’ Journey To The Stars’ Mix) [Token] Ray Kajioka - Spark [Kanzleramt] Aleksi Perala - UK74R1512110 [AP] Max_M - Scape Sequences [M_Rec] Discrete Circuit - Incursion [Mistress] Maxime Dangles - Face Reality (Slam’s Dub Interpretation) [Skryptom] Boston 168 - Even The Day [Enemy] Andrei Morant - Miles [4 Trk] Emmanuel - Contrane [Arts] Cleric - Restore [Clergy] Truncate - Modify (Dustin Zahn Remix) [Truncate] Perera Elsewhere - Ebora (Paula Temple Remix) [Friends Of Friends] Yaleesa Hall - First Leyland [Will & Ink] Adam X - Irreformable [Sonic Groove] Dustin Zahn - Bark Like A Dog For Me [Enemy] Maxine Dangles - Amsterhodes [Skryptom] Logos & Mumdance - Cold (Edit) [Tectonic] Dustin Zahn - This Is Your Face Melting [Unreleased] DJ Hyperactive - Lightspeed [4 Trk] Fanon Flowers - Mode 08 [Exalt] Bjarki - I Wanna Go Bang [трип] Mr. G - Free Fall [Breed]

Dystopian Rhythm Podcast 111 – Uun (Live in Detroit)

July 17, 2015Dystopian Rhythm This week’s podcast is Uun’s full set from our Onset 2015 event that took place at The Works in Detroit on June 19, 2015. Coming up in the music scene of Kansas City, Uun crafted his love for the darker edges of sound as a guitarist in metal bands before turning his focus to techno. Both his early work as an instrumentalist and his current work as a techno producer share a common exploration of darkness both in mood and in execution. As his discography has grown, so have his productions and mixes quickly evolved into their own unique sound. Uun’s recent work with top labels and producers Reloading Records, Dystopian Rhythm, Teggno, Sutter Cane, Brian Burger, and Andrei Morant, has garnered attention from the likes of Chris Liebing, Joseph Capriatti, Octave, Tom Hades, Dubfire, and many more. As a DJ, Uun has quickly made a name for himself around the Midwest. His deep, hard, and heady style relies both on smooth blends as well as complex layering, moving from the depths of dub and bass to the broken dystopian soundscapes linking his own music to the larger techno world. He has also put great importance on the DJ mix as a complete concept, releasing thoughtful sets for Project Techno, Reloading Records, Dystopian Rhythm, SUBterror Radio, and Monument among others. In 2015 and beyond, Uun’s hardworking ethos will continue with multiple new releases and remixes in the works. Whether in the studio or on the decks, prepare for a descent into dub and darkness. Dystopian Rhythm Podcast 110 - Pinion (live In Detroit)

This week we're happy to share the recording of Pinion's recent set at our Onset 2015 event, June 19th, 2015 at The Works in Detroit. Bobby Dowell has a sound that’s both hard and human. With releases on Droid, Soma, Perc Trax and elsewhere he’s developed an approach that keeps things moody and moving at the same time. He delivers a sound that can be devoid of form, while embracing the traditional canvas of 4/4. The sound is dark and decadent, while creating a living, breathing human element that one could only describe as a soul. As of late he has been focusing on his persona as Pinion. Being a more experimental and industrial project, Pinion is the sound of a man with his own vision of music, sitting somewhere between classic industrial and contemporary techno without being completely dedicated to either discipline. Where the likes of classic industrial methods are the sound of metal on metal, Pinion is more like wood on leather, a ceremonial throb that switches in an instant from tightly locked grooves to more freeform rhythmic patterns. Equally at home serving up percussive workouts as he is crafting dense, atmospheric soundscapes the sound of Pinion is nothing short of unyielding.

Dystopian Rhythm Podcast 097 - Axkan Live At FOFN

Going thru the high increase of electronic music projects, we can say there is one that has have maintained the most original dark sound, creating the perfect combination of ethnic roots, noise and techno elements, we are talking about AXKAN. Throbbing Gristle, Skinny Puppy, Plastikman, Autechre among others, have been source of inspiration to create his musical basics. As a teenager in the late 80’s, Luis Flores and Federico started assembling a project focused in Industrial music, later Jorge HM joined to create “Double Helix”, one of the most important Techno projects in Mexico. Months later, Federico had the opportunity to live some experiences which made him conceive the idea of a different music where percussions and ethnic elements were obvious, so after working sometime in both projects, Federico leaves Double Helix to create his own solo project, “Axkan”. Short after he published multiple tracks under the label NopalBeat and had the chance to perform thru the US, Mexico, South America, Spain and Russia. Up to this day, his sound keeps morphing, changing towards a more raw sound. Federico is still an avid collector of vintage electronic musical instruments and modular gear, with his arsenal has always been trying to create unique sounds, without trying to fall into a specific genre, without trying to make music that sell records, just having fun with noise. This recording is a live PA performed at a #FOFN event in Los Angeles in December 2014. (No tracklist available)

Dystopian Rhythm Podcast 095 - Complicit Live At Bass Gift

Com·plic·it :: [kuhm-plis-it] :: adjective :: choosing to be involved in a questionable act, especially with others … Complicit is an exploration of modern techno, one fueled by the combined creative force of Tanya and Travis Norman. Musicians. DJ’s. Sound designers. Proponents of that classic and pure spirit of the underground – where an element of risk and a common desire can draw a dance floor together into a shared experience, each member playing their part in creating the night. Based out of Minneapolis and now making frequent trips throughout the US, the pair have steadily built a reputation for high energy performances (both DJ & LIVE PA) and nights to remember. Meanwhile, the past 5 years of studio collaboration have seen Complicit release well received EP’s & remixes on Nonpop Records, Grid Based Beats, Innerflight, Subspec and Aerotek and there will be no slowing down in 2015 with forthcoming EP’s on Eternal Drive Recordings, SecreTechno and Rheostatus. Sound > The duo have forged a compositional style thick with substantial lows, layered with subtle melodic and percussive gestures, and full of dance floor appeal. Dark and moody, heavy and hypnotic, and always seeking balance – their sound reflects a shared passion for investing in the process, for embracing an ever evolving workflow, and for delivering results that make an impact. To attend a Complicit event is to enter an auditory landscape whose real time system-sharing symbiosis reflects a balancing act of duties divided by frequency range: with one rolling out deep bass and drums as the other cuts through with sharp synths and evocative upper register atmospherics. Since the pair are able to deploy a diverse array of sonic concepts, from mellow and dubby to full throttle peak time, promoters know they can put Complicit on in any room! Dystopian Rhythm Podcast 090 - James Kelley

Hailing from somewhere deep in the shadows of the Dallas (USA) underground this veteran artist, with over a decade of existence in the scene, is no stranger to orchestrating dance floors into a late night mind f*&k. Influenced by dank dark warehouses and all night marathon sets, his weapons of choice have been known to span several genres including minimal, techno, and tech house. Beginning his exploration of electronic sound in the late 90's, he then spent the next 7 years hypnotized by his love for vinyl. During this time of experimenting with almost every source of music available to him, he always leaned toward the darker side of sound, finally finding his home with dark minimal techno. In early to mid 2010, he decided that producing his own music was the only way to go deeper into his own thoughts and express himself as an artist. After finally making material available to the public, he was immediately signed with Kontrol Records Rome and Mischkonsum Records of Stuttgart, Germany. His debut release "The Spell EP" and follow up releases "The Seven Year Detour EP" and "Time Machine EP" quickly seated themselves amongst some of the genre's elite at #17, #7 and #49 respectively on "Beatport's Top Minimal 100" in 2012. Under his project SOURCE 20/20, he's produced many underground events in his home base of Dallas including an Official Movement Pre-party. This artist is constantly locked in the lab formulating a unique brew of sounds ranging from haunting and deep, dark and moody, to twisted and diabolic so prepare yourself to get lost in an audio journey into the depths of your own mind. facebook.com/JamesKelleyOffici...ficialMusicPage soundcloud.com/james-kelley beatport.com/artist/james-kelley/238391 facebook.com/SOURCE2020 01 Spherical (Sone Remix) - Milkplant [From 0-1] 02 Unbroken Supersymmetry (Dig-it Remix) - Brishna [Vector Functions Records] 03 Program - Luis Flores [CLR] 04 Aun Weor (Original Mix) - Shifted [Our Circlula Sound] 05 Structure A - Uun [Teggno Records] 06 Cruelty - Virulent [iLL Bomb Records] 07 Nucleoid (Jonas Kopp remix) - Exium [Pole Group] 08 Chaos Element (James Kelley Remix) - Uun [Eternal Drive Recordings] 09 Cry For Help (Sutter Cane Remix) - Stevie Wilson [Organism] 10 Braintrapped (Petter B Stripped Remix) - On/Off [Onofficial] 11 Walking Through - David Meiser [Nachtstrom Schallplatten] 12 Blind (Niereich Remix) - Marco Asoleda [Blind Spot Music] 13 Hydrogen (Felix Lorusso Remix) - Alhek [Genesa Records]

Dystopian Rhythm Podcast 085 - Gene Hoffmann

Gene Hoffmann has been a passionate and active part of the world techno fraternity since the mid 90’s. He is best known for his dynamic multichannel DJ sets that blend a broad range of techno that appeals to both the mind and feet. He’s also noted by some for his oddball sense of humour and for his infectious enthusiasm for techno music in general. Since 1997 Gene has given his all as an underground techno DJ and occasional promoter. He has shared the stage with almost every international techno heavyweight, and has appeared at countless festivals, underground parties and club nights, including the spiritual home of techno – Tresor. He regularly travels across Australia, Asia and Europe to make noise and drink as much beer as possible. Gene is a passionate controllerist and music gear junkie, and has been since digital DJing was in its infancy. After learning his trade on turntables for the best part of a decade Gene progressed on to Final Scratch in 2004. He doesn’t seek out weekly gigs anymore, but feels very privileged to be invited to play occasional good quality local, interstate and international techno events, and to share his music to the world techno community via podcast appearances and Soundcloud uploads. Dystopian Rhythm Podcast 083 - Virulent

Kevin Farabaugh has been DJing, producing, and proliferating underground techno under the guise of the Virulent alias for over a decade. Born and raised in Northwest Indiana and firmly enshrouded in the shadows of Chicago’s house, acid and industrial scenes, he began experimenting with secondhand drum machines and emerging music production software as early as 1996. Frequent trips to Chicago’s Gramaphone Records provided the building blocks for his sound, a strange hybrid of emerging drummy European releases along with more classic and dirty Windy City bangers. Releasing records on Detroit’s Beretta and Seismic labels as well as Indianapolis-based Chromagnon and Azure, Kevin began to make an impact in 2005. However, the death of a close friend combined with the shifting trend towards subpar “mnml” techno prompted him to take a hiatus which lasted for many years. After a change of scenery to the quiet hills of North Carolina, the leviathan known as Virulent once again emerged in 2013. Finding an eager audience in local producers Justin Kase and Owen Sands of the emerging techno imprint Ill Bomb Records, Kevin produced a pair of EPs which landed on the charts of major techno players worldwide, and have seen heavy play from Tokyo to Berlin. Already having crafted remixes for 611, DeKonstrukt, Torque and Slap Jaxx in his first year back, along with his past and upcoming work for Dystopian Rhythm, the sleeper has been awakened and can no longer be chained.

Dystopian Rhythm Podcast 074 - John Massey

Brooklyn native John Massey has been attempting to damage eardrums for almost 14 years. A child of the 80s, John transplanted to Los Angeles as a teen. There he discovered an emerging underground dance scene and was infected with an interest in electronic music. John soon founded Sound Rehab Productions, connected with influential local promoters and artists such as Omar Ojeda (Darius Aleksander), Robin Porter, Drumcell, Ron-D-Core, Raiz (Acid Circus) and began coordinating techno events and working the dj circuit throughout the southern California area. Today John resides in Seattle. In the years since John has stayed close to the underground, while making appearances at events such as Seattle’s Decibel Festival, SubSensory’s monthly STATIC in Portland, and frequent club and afterhour gigs around the Pacific Northwest. John is the kind of unassuming artists that earns respect rather than demands it; keeping his head down and focusing on his craft, trusting his instincts to keep the dancefloor moving. His current set consists of a live/dj hybrid that enables John to creatively blend a wide variety of techno, minimal and experimental sounds. As a producer John tackles a variety of sounds ranging from his previous hip hop efforts under Dysposable Heroes, to his techno projects under his own name and previously as Indispenable Villains. He’s affiliated with Seattle’s From 0-1, a conceptual label which he represents in his various endeavors. He’s released on various labels such as HardSignal, Bleepsequence, From 0-1, Subsensory, Droid and his own Sound Rehab Recordings. No matter the genre he has always enjoyed working with various artists giving him the opportunity to make new friends and take in new influences. Dystopian Rhythm Podcast 073 - C7even

One Thing is particularly important in C.7evens music: love. Her emotion, passion and dedication drives her crowd on the dancefloor. Considering that she has been rather averse to music as a child, this is a big change. Electronic music in general or techno in particular has never really caught her peculiar interest. Why she took this route by coincidence has been kind of a miracle to her from the beginning. She had her first inspiring contact with House & Techno in 2009 when 2//Jacks an exemplary DJ and producer team from Mainz introduced the music to her. The two guys (mostly DJ Shin) taught her skillful DJing and the required sensitivity for music. Timid curiosity quickly turned into greedy lust, C.7even wanted more. Acts such as Paul db+, Ida Engberg, Peter Eilmes (a.k.a Plattenpeter), Chris Liebing and Ben Klock got more and more interesting to her and influenced her career. C.7even can not be placed into a certain genre. Her sets range from melodic groovy tech house up to dark impulsive techno. But her passion is in propulsive and powerful sound. She is constantly enhancing her mix technique and improves from gig to gig. The legendary U60311 club in Frankfurt, also plays an important role. During her first visit, the euphoria of the underground immediately fascinated her and in July 2011 she finally got her first gig at the beloved U60. Today, C.7even and her tunes are a regular guest on the decks there. This is the beginning of her career and it will be interesting to further follow the path of this young DJane.
