    Quality Foods - Amusement Foods

Summer is in its final stretch, and festival season is winding down, so what better time to discuss some of the many notorious treats found at fairs events and amusement parks . You know the what we’re talking about…funnel cakes, turkey legs, and fried everything under the sun. We explored the history of some of these popular treats, talked about some of our recent experiences at fairs and events, and of course touched on some of our core experiences with extravagant event food over the years.

    QGPod 126 - Execution & Repetition

On this episode, Anson and Chris touch on another theme that is shred by nearly all QG guests, execution and repetition. Without these actions, there would be no Quality Goods Podcast. Execution and repetition are crucial practices that all doers must undertake. Without executing a task and repeating it over and over again, there is no way to become a professional in anything. This discussion touches on the creative cycle, and detailed what artists, business people, and athletes must endure to achieve the highest in their respective grind. Ideation, iteration, breaking through creative blocks, find all of that and more in this episode. It was a great conversation packed with stories from their own creative endeavors, as well as artists and entrepreneurs.

  3. 146

    Quality Foods - Raw Seafood

This episode of the podcast we are getting raw. Oysters, sashimi, clams, uni. All those salt water dwelling craveable creatures that are best when consumed in a port city, or somewhere in the vicinity of one. Freshness is EVERYTHING when it comes to eating raw, and if the product ain't quality, we ain't eating it. Whether you’re an oyster lover that throws back trays of em, of maybe your more partial to the acid cooked semi-raw ceviches, this episode will make your mouth water.

  4. 145

    Quality Foods - Blended Beverages

This episode is all about cold, thick, and mostly sweet beverages that we all love to indulge in once in a while or more. Milkshakes, frappes, smoothies, all the delectable high calorie beverages that your heart and stomach desire. Whether you flock to the green mermaid for your frozen caffeine fix or sip down extra slush alongside your burger, blended beverages are a popular way to slurp down so extra cals, or some extra nutrients..it all depends on the ingredients. So throw your fav treats in that machine and pour some love over it and lets talk blend bevys.

  5. 144

    Quality Foods - Wings

What is going on Quality Foodies. This episode is all about a multi-cultural, versatile, snackable, delectable morsel of the most commonly consumed bird. If you said turkey necks, you are sadly mistaken! We are talking chicken wings of course. The popular bar snack is one that many cultures have blessed with unique flavors and prep methods. From sticky fish sauce wings, to fiery culinary competitions, and everything in between. Shoot, there are even entire restaurants dedicated to this dish. You can smoke them, grill them, fry them, or stew them. But regardless of how you prep them, will see the pile of bones that lie in their wake post chow down. So this episode is dedicated to the many birds that have given their lives, for us to be able to create this content.

  6. 143

    QGPod 125 - Networking

This episode of the Quality Goods Podcast is all about networking. Arguably one of the most important job and life skills you can hone if you have ambitions or the desire to get ahead or get things done. The soft skills like public speaking and effective communication that are practiced through networking can help develop the ability to win people over and get your message across clearly. All of these things are some of the benefits of exercising and growing your network. Let’s face it, no one will ever know how great your product or service is if you don’t talk about it! You’ll never grow your brand if you stay silent on the subject. As they say, closed mouths don’t get paid…or was it don’t get fed…either way, the sentiment remains true. So step outside of your comfort zone, go to that event, talk to the people that are operating inside of the space that you want to be in.

  7. 142

    Quality Foods - Culinary Beefs

This episode of the podcast is dedicated to fresh beef…no not top sirloin, and not the stuff your favorite burger is comprised of. We are talking competition, rivalry, some good ol fashioned squabbles. In light of the recent hip hop beef that took social media by storm, this episode is inspired by a musical rivalry between Kendrick Lamar and Drake. Regardless of who came out on top of that one, it ignited the rap flame and we all got to basque in its heat and glow for a bit. Much like hip hop beefs give us conversation ammo, beefs in the food world can stir up similar sentiments. While food feuds typically remain friendly, some take the competition seriously…New York vs Chicago Pizza, Coke vs Pepsi, which ever team you side with, we all get a little excitement and a whole lot of flavor out of these friendly competitions. So let’s explore a few familiar and maybe not so familiar beefs in the world of food .

    Quality Foods - Performance Meal

Proper nourishment before a big game is essential. Food can affect our performance for the better, or worse, but if planned right it can provide the fuel we need to be at our best both physically, and mentally. Let’s face it, the proper diet can influence athletic performance in both the short and long term. From going beast mode and chugging skittles, to going plant based like TB12, those that go out to perform, seek to nourish themselves with what draws the best out of them. Check out some of our own go-to performance meals and hear about the diet of a Paralympic Gold Medalist from our recent guest Brian Bell

  9. 140

    Quality Foods - Cheesesteaks

On this episode of the foodcast, Anson and Chris got cheesy again as they dove into the world of cheesesteak sandwiches and their close relatives. While they both consume fewer of them than we once did, it is a mighty tasty and decadent food item that is near and dear to their hearts. If you’re not vegetarian or vegan, chances are you have a go-to spot for when this particular craving hits. Shoot even if you are rocking a plant based diet, they've both noshed on a couple mushroom philly's that would give their meat clad counterparts a run for their money. (Just don’t tell philly that, or they may ban me from ever visiting again.) There’s just something special about when meat, onions, and cheese come together, and then you make it hand held by shoving it in a nice roll..GAME OVER.

  10. 139

    Quality Foods - Fictional Foodies

Anson and Chris got to chatting about fictional foods and some of the tasty looking dishes they’ve seen prepped and consumed in movies and TV. Whether some cartoon cuisine had you drooling, or a chef whipped up a great dish on your favorite new drama series, we have all witnessed a fictional food item that stirred up a craving. Whether you find that food inspo from the big screen, the TV, or even swiping your way through social media, there are some make believe and fantasy foods for everyones taste.

  11. 138

QGPod 124 - 2X Paralympic Gold Medalist Brian Bell

On this episode of the podcast Anson and Chris were joined by 2x Paralympic Gold Medalist, Brian Bell. Brian dropped by Groundfloor Oakland to chat about his journey as a Professional Wheelchair Basketball Player, and how he has always sought athletic competition at the highest level. They talked about his stint overseas in Europe, the evolution of the game, and how having the right support system around you makes all the difference. From Birmingham to the Bay Area, with a bunch of international stops in between, Brian has a stacked professional athletic resume, and a ton of wisdom to impart to athletes and non-athletes alike.

  12. 137

    Quality Foods - Sandwiches

On this episode of the quality foods podcast, Anson and Chris discussed one of the foods that they both consume on a pretty regular basis, sandwiches. The mostly portable, carby, often cheesy hand-meal comes in many shapes and sizes, and are built for certain occasions. From buffet banquets, to school lunches, to neighborhood delis and everywhere in between and outside. If you’re listening to this podcast, I’m fairly certain that it is a guarantee you’ve had one, and probably even within the last couple of weeks. And if you haven’t what the hell are you waiting for! Two pieces of bread and whatever you want in between, creativity is your only limitation. There are so many varieties of sandwiches out there, that they definitely cannot cover them all in one episode. So join them for the first sandwich discussion in the Quality Foods realm and stick around for the sandwich saga.

  13. 136

    QGPod 123 - Performing Artist Monte Oakley-World

Anson and Chris were joined by Los Angeles based, multi-faceted performing artist Monte Oakley-World. As someone who was born with the artistic bug, Monte found his way to music at an early age. He got lucky and stumbled upon a burned CD that contained recording software, and it was off to the races. His musical endeavors lead to moderate success, even teaming up as live hip hop act MDMF. His creative pursuits didn’t stop there though, when the creative itch came calling once more, he answered by studying theater which has lead him to the company he performs and tours with to this day. It was a great conversation about a passion for performance.

  14. 135

    Quality Foods - Quesadillas

Anson and Chris got a little cheesy discussing a food item that almost everyone fancies, the quesadilla. From simple to stuffed, the melty delicacy is always comforting and almost never sophisticated. And let’s be honest, if it is, we probably don’t want it. Whether you’re at your favorite taqueria or rummaging through the fridge late night, quesadillas always hit right. So whether you’re a tortilla and cheese purist, or love yourself packed with savory carnes, let’s see explore this familiar toasty treat

  15. 134

QGPod 122 - Good Fishing Returns

Anson and Chris were kicking back at Groundfloor Oakland with some OG homies of the podcast, Good Fishing. Coming fresh of the sunset of their lifestyle brand, Sam Bostick and Vicken Donikian dropped by to chat about the lifecycle of creative endeavors, and reflect on some of the lessons that come along with an ever-evolving project. While it was a bittersweet closing chapter for that particular journey, it only marks the beginning of the next chapter. It was a great conversation about the creative freedom, carving new paths, and doing things on your own terms.

  16. 133

    Quality Foods - Ramen

This episode is all about quality noods. Not the ones that get leaked online, but the kind that require chopsticks and lots of slurping... ramen. For many of us, our first experience with ramen occurred with small packets of instant noodles in our childhood kitchens. The ramen game has come an awfully long way since then. From tonkotsu to tsukemen, and everything in between, there is a variation for everyone… that’s right, even the vegans. So if you’re as much a fan of the noods as we are, you’re definitely going to enjoy this hot brothy convo.

  17. 132

    Quality Foods - First Dates

This episode is not about a particular cuisine, but rather a common ritual that we have all been through that often centers around food…first dates. While not all first dates take place at restaurants, they are one of the most fitting venues for the activity at hand. they have a vibe, they’re made for gathering and conversing, and you can even soothe the nerves with a drink or two if that’s your thing. There are many ways to go and there are definitely some guidelines that should be followed, and this discussion features our recent guest Tsunami Yumi and includes some tales to learn from as well as some dos-and-don’t’s for how to conduct yourself when wining and dining someone on a first date.

  18. 131

QGPod 121 - Tattoo Artist Tsunami Yumi

Anson and Chris were joined by Rio Vista, California-based Tattoo Artist, Tsunami Yumi. As one of Anson’s primary body scribers, she has literally made her mark in Quality Goods territory. Tsunami Yumi actually started her journey as an artist with paining on canvases, but it wouldn’t take long before she would switch mediums and answer her calling as a tattooist. While she may still be honing her style as a tattoo artist, she has inked many folks, and has even run a few fundraising campaigns in the process. It was a great conversation about developing as an artist, and seizing opportunities…oh and there is even a little talk about arachnids and creepy things like that, so you don’t wanna miss this chat about art and the interesting places where inspiration can be found.

  19. 130

    Quality Foods - Chinese Food

This episode of the Quality Foods Podcast is all about Chinese food. The culinary introduction to cultural cuisine for some of us, and comfort food to many, Chinese food embodies so many different sub cultures, tastes, and styles. You may automatically think noodles and fried rice, others may immediately think dumplings and dim sum. Whatever dish your mind locks in on when someone tells you they’re thinking of ordering Chinese, I bet it’s tasty!

QGPod 117 - Pie Smith Ricky Davis Returns

For the 3rd entry of the Pie Dreams and Quality Goods saga, Anson and I paid a visit to the Pie Smith himself Ricky Davis in his very own Pie Shop in Newark, California. It was an inevitable gathering that was years in the making, as we recalled our prior conversations where Ricky spoke of his aspirations of opening his own brick and mortar in the Tri City area. Ricky’s story truly is one of manifestation through consistency and accountability. Without any real mentor in the Pie smithing world, Ricky paved his own way into the pie scape, through quality processes and ingredients, and never cutting corners. The proof is in the pudding, or in this case the pie, as the success of Pie Dreams will be spread across tables in countless households in the approaching holiday season. On this episode of the Quality Goods Podcast Anson and Chris discussed hobbies and side hustles. Many of their guests have navigated the path from hobby to side hustle to full blown career, so we pulled together some common threads from those in their circle. They talked about the importance of identifying the appropriate time to take a hobby or side hustle to the next level, and inversely identifying when something doesn't necessarily need to be taken to the next level. They talked about growth as an entrepreneur and business, scaling appropriately, and touched on how scaling too fast can be more harmful than helpful. This convo touches on all of that and more.

  27. 122

    QGPod 115 - Generic & Alternative Brands

On this episode of the Quality Goods podcast, Anson and Chris had a discussion about generic and alternative brands. The modern market is exploding with branded goods, new brands launching every single day. This influx of newly branded goods also fosters a healthy market of imitators and imposters. But don’t they say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery? For some alt brands, that may be the case! But in instances like bootlegs, it may be a sign that you should steer clear. The spectrum of branded goods and their alternative and generic counter parts can be hard to navigate, so the guys thought it would be nice to share some insights about the market of generics and alternatives out there for those who may not be as familiar. So whether you’re a brand loyalist, or bargain hunting for a high quality knock off, this conversation has some great info about the marketplace.

While we are not going through a full rebrand, our comeback story is merely one of iteration, bringing you the familiar quality vibes wrapped in a fresh package…an evolution if you will. We address these things as well as other successful and not so successful comebacks and rebrands, and takeaways from many of those cases throughout history. We have all seen both failures, success stories,  and everything in between, and thankfully, we get to learn from all of them. So whether you’re reinventing yourself, or just refreshing a logo and/or color palette, we explored the depths or shallows in which people and companies have sought to freshen up their image.

What's up good people! Thank you all so much for rocking with us for yet another year. QGPod 105 - Breaks & Thanks

What is good quality listeners?! We are back after a short break from putting out new content. It wasn’t to punish you all, but merely to chill the fuck out for a minute, focus on life, and spend a tiny bit less time in front of a screen for a couple months. But we missed you, and just couldn’t keep away for too long, so we thought it only right to say what up and spread some year end holiday cheer. What better subject to cover then breaks? No we’re not talking about break beats or broken bones…but rather the fact that it is ok to take a break once in a while. Entrepreneurship is a common thread in our content, and we have been so conditioned to be on grind mode 24/7, grow a following with constant posting and engagement, trying to build that highlight real for clout, we often forget to take a moment to stop and breathe! While there are appropriate times to flex on grind mode, there is much more to life then work work work. We also touched on the anti-work movement going on, some of the wild ass crime that has arisen around us due to the involuntary extended break that many are experiencing, and then we wrapped up the convo with a discussion about gratitude and some things that we are thankful for. so check out this conversation about breaks and thanks. What’s good quality people?! It’s been a long time, and we should not have left you, with out some great pod content to step to, drive to, lay around to…whatever it is that you do when you listen to podcasts. As we gear up to bring you some new content, we thought it an appropriate moment to release some content from the archives featuring our good friend Ekzakt. Zach Perry aka Ekzakt has been grinding it out on these coast as an engineer and producer for a decade plus, cutting tracks for the likes of Andre Nickatina, Mistah Fab, and more recently the legendary Too Short. The two were featured in a recent piece put out by Lauten Audio called Capture, and we were super proud and impressed by the quality piece about the importance of being skilled engineer in addition to your production chops. We love the representation of The Bay, and the story told in the piece is one I got the privilege of witnessing first hand, so it’s extra special in that regard. So as we continue to support quality content and quality people, we wanted to share some stories and advice from the man himself back around the inception of the pandemic. While Anson and I take a small break from recording new content, we thought it only right to provide you guys with good episode from our backlog that you may have missed if you weren’t with us in our earlier days. In light of his recent victory on UFC fight pass, we wanted to serve you up our conversation with MMA fighter Jeremiah ‘The Kid’ Labiano. His explosive win over Tim Dooling on one of the worlds largest fight platforms was nothing short of exciting. If you’re an MMA fan and haven’t peeped the highlight reel yet, we highly suggest you hit the socials and seek it out, it’s definitely worth the price of tracking it down. Link in the description of this podcast for the lazy. The conversation was recorded just before the pandemic struck, so we had the pleasure of joining Jeremiah at his home training facility at Crispim BJJ. It was a conversation about what it takes to become a professional fighter, the future of MMA, and becoming a part owner of a BJJ gym. A great episode for fight fans, entrepreneurs, and anyone who knows how it is to fight adversity in order to compete at the highest level. QGPod 104 - Attention & Awareness

On this episode of the podcast Anson and Chris wanted to chat about some topics that go hand in hand with each other..attention and awareness. These two subjects are not only important for success in entrepreneurial pursuits, but also for success in our personal lives and relationships. Attention might just be the most valuable commodity in the world, and companies of all sizes, from local mom and pops to corporate conglomerates are all in constant competition for it. Awareness goes hand in hand with attention, and is the first step into bringing more of it to any cause. There are many dimensions of awareness though, from simple concepts like spatial awareness, to grander ideas like environmental awareness and everything in between and outside. They discussed how attention and awareness commingle constantly, and we are sure that you all can relate to some of the situations and scenarios that we touched on. So pay close attention to this episode, and if you dig the conversation, we would be ever so grateful if you would raise awareness of it through your socials by liking out posts, sharing the episode to your stories, or going with the good old fashioned approach of sharing with your friends and fat through word of mouth. However you choose to bring attention to and support quality, we will alway be grateful! QGPod 103 - Angelique Austin Director of One Rose of Unity

This episode of the podcast features an unsung hero and community figure here in Oakland, CA, Angelique Austin. As the Owner and Director of One Rose of Unity, Angelique provides low cost room and board for low income individuals who need a little assistance gaining and maintaining their independence. As someone who has been through some trying times herself, Angelique was eager to help when she was afforded the opportunity to do so, utilizing her spare bedrooms in her apartment to house some folks that needed a little extra assistance. She has since grown her organization to encompass 6 homes in the Oakland area, where she houses veterans, homeless, parolees, and those suffering from various mental illnesses. The safe havens that she and her family provide, have helped many people retain their respect, dignity, and independence, and she is on the path to growing to be able to serve even more of the community. Her story is one of empathy and compassion, and I think we can all use a little more of that in our lives. QGPod 96 - Gatekeepers

On this episode of podcast, Anson and Chris went guest-less again to address another universal topic, gatekeeping. Now the reason we say universal, is because we am fairly certain that we have all (us and you listeners) encountered gatekeepers at some point in our lives. And if you haven’t...then I’m not quite sure how you’ve managed to get this far in your life..because gatekeepers dwell all around us. In our careers, in our hobbies, in our fandoms, and sometimes even literally at physical gates. Let’s not mistake gatekeepers for locks though, because there is still a way through the gate that you seek passage, but it may just take some plotting and/or some persevering to get yourself through. We’ll discuss some ways to do so on this podcast, as well as some stories of being kept from gates in our own lives. QGPod 95 - Ballerina Jenna Marie

On this episode of the podcast, Anson and Chris were joined by another amazing artist repping the Bay Area, Jenna Marie. Jenna Marie is a ballerina based in San Francisco, and throughout the pandemic she has been spreading her love of movement online through various video projects such as Swans directed and choreographed by Robert Dekkers, and Movement for Movement produced by Ben Needham-Wood, as well as teaching other dance lovers through live streams. It was a delight for them to chat with an artist from the East Coast that has found such a warm welcome in the Bay Area…which was not something she expected when migrating away from the New York ballet scene. While the ballet scene is not something Anson and Chris are super well versed in, thehy appreciate all things art and Jenna Marie stays putting out that energy that could not be ignored.  Follow Jenna Marie: @its_jennamarie Episode powered by: thegeniusbrand.com - 15% off with code 'QUALITY'

QGPod 94 - Photographer & VFX Supervisor Tommy Souza

On this episode of the Quality Goods Podcast, Anson and Chris were joined by Photographer & VFX Supervisor Tommy Souza. Tommy is a creative jack of all trades, that has found happy home behind the lens of his Sony camera. His eye-catching stylized photo edits have led him to growing his creative network north of the border in Montreal, where he has also made his mark on the movie world in the VFX dept. His love of film has not only informed his style as a photographer, it took him far away from his home base in California where he got his start in the movie biz, and he only continues to work his way up the production chain. The creativity never stops with this guy, so keep your eyes out on his Instagram profile and IMDB account and I can assure you, you will not be bored.
