God has given us wonderful gifts for resisting temptation and overcoming the traps of the enemies in our lives.  When we realize that God is for us, and not against us, we are able to boldly access these gifts knowing that God wants us to succeed.

James says, when we face trials than challenge our conduct and choices, we are not to say that "God is tempting me". But this is a strange statement that few people ever say. Paul attempts to explain this statement in 21st century language.

There is a difference between a trial and a test. A trial is something that happens due to life's circumstances, but a test is something that is enacted on us by someone.  But who?  Who is responsible for the testing of our character and moral choices in the midst of a trial?

When we endure trials we are promised a reward.  And it's not just any reward but one that contains a new measure of abundant life.

The letter of James was sent to believers who now had become refugees as they escaped persecution.  A lot of their trials were sourced in economic instability and James expected the church, both then and now, to help those who are believers and running for their lives.

If you are a middle class North American then you are wealthy by others standards.  But what makes you feel good about yourself?  Where do you derive your value and hope from?  James calls on us to handle wealth with humility.

Why does it seem that some people see God use them for healing more than others?  Are they blessed in a special way or is this gift something we can all see operate in our lives?

What does it mean, exactly, when it say's "By his stripes we are healed"?  Does this mean healing is inherent in the atoning work of the cross or does it mean something else?

Jesus often connected faith to miracles.  What is this?  What isn't it? And what does it mean to "have faith" for a miracle or healing?

Why don't we see the healings of days gone by and those in the scripture?  Paul looks at some of the beliefs and doctrines that have arisen around this question.

We don't need to be experts on the kingdom of darkness but rather we need to be experts on the kingdom of God. Jesus has already overcome and when we learn to be covered by the blood and have a testimony that declares his victory amazing things happen.

Paul shares the amazing truth that when God comes in a special way we suddenly witness the battle between Satan and our souls.   Jesus's ministry was full of confrontations with the demonic and this is what happens when light shines on the darkness.

Jesus preached to move people to repentance. He preached to reveal himself and get people to change their thinking about him from "just another prophet" to grasping that he is the messiah. He wanted to move people to the point that they would drop everything and "come and follow me".

The most important and impactful part of Christ revival in Galilee was his preaching and teaching.   He spoke with such an authority that people were moved and stirred.  We need our preaching, and our ears, to be anointed so we might see this kind of authority in the preaching of today.

We are a web of conflicting desires.  Some good, some bad, and some good and bad.  When our desire, our passion, for Jesus is burning bright it is easy to keep our desires in order.  But when our passion for Jesus is cool we become confused and out of sorts.  Come Lord Jesus and revive us!

We're beginning a new series called: "The Jesus Revival" wherein we'll talk about how God visited in a special way and have a profound impact on a group of people. Today we'll share a small clip that Pastor Paul gave on Sunday which we hope will be an encouragement for you.
