Today Christine teaches about caring for our communities through Matthew 5:21-26. Our goal is to be equipped to live into our identity as Christ followers in our homes, neighborhoods, and workplaces and to mobilize to collectively care for the housing insecure, at-risk youth, and immigrant neighbors.

It’s Formation Sunday and Mike will be continuing to teach through Matthew 5:17-20. As we head into the next part of Jesus’s Sermon on the Mount, we’ll notice the phrase, “you have heard it said” and see how Jesus continues to challenge us to shift our understanding of scripture and the perspectives we hold. Last weekend, DeSean Dyson left us reflecting on how to draw near as peacemakers in the Way of Jesus. We’re excited to continue to dig in and consider who this Beatitude is inviting us to be as we are present with Jesus.

Draw Near: Creating Intentional Space for Silence
This morning is Formation Sunday and Mike will be teaching on the next verses in the Beatitudes as we continue to explore our theme, Draw Near: A Year of Radical Presence. Matthew 5:5-6 – "Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled." Formation Sunday: Draw Near – Silence, Stillness, Solitude
This morning is Formation Sunday and we will continue introducing our new theme, Draw Near: A Year of Radical Presence! This year we are looking forward to spending our time in Matthew 5-7 and the Sermon on the Mount, finding ourselves sitting together at the feet of Jesus. Part of our exploration this year will include extended time with each of our formation practices! For this first quarter, we will be focusing in on Silence, Solitude, and Stillness. Christine will introduce our first formation practice and begin preaching on the Beatitudes this Sunday – “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”

The Kingdom of God is Here: Releasing Repentance
It’s Formation Sunday and the third Sunday of Advent! This year we have been exploring Jubilee as a Year of Radical Release, and have looked to the parables to see what the Kingdom of God is like. In December, we are celebrating that the Kingdom of God is Here with the birth of Christ, God with Us. This morning, Christine will be leading us in our last practice of release of the year: Releasing Repentance. As we have spent time in the Jubilee themes of freedom, rest, and generosity, how do we need to realign ourselves to the reality of the Kingdom’s presence?

This fall, Redemption celebrates our 14th Birthday as a church. As we continue in our Year of Jubilee, we will take this Exploration Sunday to reflect and celebrate how we have seen the Kingdom of God break in throughout our history. The elders will be sharing the story of how we started as a church and where we see God at work as we look ahead. Whether you are brand new to Redemption or have been with us for most of our history, we are grateful to be together in this season of our church family!

Exploration Sunday with Dr. Gabrielle Clowdus
This year we have been exploring Jubilee as a Year of Radical Release, and in the second half of the year we are looking to the parables to see what the Kingdom of God is like. This week is Exploration Sunday, and Gabrielle Clowdus will be our Exploration guest! Gabrielle Clowdus founded Settled, a movement of believers radically committed to life with the poor. Settled was birthed out of Gabrielle’s doctoral research on chronic homelessness and affordable housing, where she discovered the critical response is enduring relationships. Settled exists to guide the local church to cultivate home in a homeless world by planting intentional and permanent tiny home communities on their land.

The Economics of Jesus: Releasing Peace
On this Formation Sunday, Mike teaches on Jesus crossing the Sea of Galilee to free a demon possessed man. We also introduced our formation practice, Releasing Peace, through prayer, a personal peace evaluation, and with writing letters to our representatives calling for peace.
