Restoration Road (A Graced For More Podcast)

This episode is Part 3 of a three-part series discussing the arc of restoration. When Jesus restores a life, the story doesn't end with healing... it leads to an invitation. In John 4, we meet the woman at the well, a woman marked by shame and isolation. Yet after one encounter with Jesus, everything changes. The very woman who came to the well alone becomes the one who runs back to her town saying, "Come and see." Her story reminds us that restoration is never just about us. This episode is Part 2 of a three-part series on the arc of restoration. Restoration rarely happens instantly. Most of the time, it unfolds in what feels like the messy middle...the space between failure and healing. In this episode, we look at the stories of David and Peter, two men who deeply loved God yet experienced devastating failure. Through David's repentance in Psalm 51 and Peter's restoration in John 21, we see that repentance is never the end, but the beginning of the process. The journey of restoration requires humility in order for God to rebuild what's been broken. But the good news is this: God does not abandon us in the messy middle of our story. Have you ever thought about the fact that your idols don't love you? Have you considered how many things we give our time, attention, focus, and energy to...things that are meaningless and fleeting? And yet we jump through hoops trying to serve and indulge them and all the while God is waiting for us to turn to Him and choose His unconditional, unfailing, life-giving, perfect love. It's almost ridiculous when we think about it, yet we do it daily. Elijah said it best in 1 Kings when he confronted the people of Israel in their rebellion, "How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal is god, follow him." (1 Kings 18:21) God calls us to choose whom we will follow; I pray we choose wisely. I pray we follow hard after the One who created us and calls us to love Him with all of our heart, soul, strength, and mind. Undivided hearts lead to undivided marriages, families, churches, communities, and so on....everything starts with a decision to have an undivided, unwavering heart for the One true God. Letting go of unforgiveness can be hard. But when we struggle to forgive, anger can be destructive and toxic to our soul. Some compare holding onto resentment like drinking poison, and expecting the other person to die. But Jesus teaches us a better way to handle our anger. Here are some practicle and Biblical approaches on how to deal with those whom have hurt us. We must choose to let go, and let God heal our hearts and set us free.
