So How Do You Shine Where You Are?

IN THIS EPISODE: In this episode, meet Amy’s husband, BJ, and hear how he has made his work as a teacher, coach, principal, and now FCA rep, his ministry field. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Your Turn... When you think about it, every job is a ‘people’ job. Some are great evangelists, some can give money, some of us are nurturers, but all of us can point people to Christ right where He’s placed us. So We’ve Been Embracing Life & It’s Time to Catch Up

Welcome to episode 20 of the rooted and grounded podcast.  We’re sorry it’s been a while since you’ve heard from us, so we’re just doing a big catch-up episode about what’s been going on with us.  If you enjoy bouncing all over the place, this is the episode for you!  We will cover everything from selling some goats to solving a mystery to Little House on the Prairie.  Thanks for joining us! And that’s about it. That’s the human lot. Yes, we should make the most of what God gives, both the bounty and the capacity to enjoy it, accepting what’s given and delighting in the work. It’s God’s gift! God deals out joy in the present, the now. It’s useless to brood over how long we might live. (MSG: The Message) Your Turn... What are you doing to enjoy the now? And make the most of it? Hey y’all!  Thanks for joining us for episode 17 of the Rooted and Grounded podcast.  We looked up and it’s suddenly July, which means we only got one episode done in June. We must have been on island time!  Speaking of which, this episode ended up being a mish mash of a lot of riveting thoughts, everything from refinishing a table to grooming a dog to illegal fireworks.  We do end up by talking about the true meaning of freedom to us, just in time for the 4th of July.  To make up for the riveting content, I did include a funny blooper at the end.  Hope you enjoy! Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. 2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. Your Turn... Some of us worry about getting older and only focus on the negatives. God’s design is for us to enjoy new seasons of life and share the wisdom we’ve gained with others who aren’t as far along the road as we are yet. Life is hard and sometimes it seems like there isn’t anything worthy of laughing at. Our challenge for you is to find the funny in life and try not to take everything so seriously. We are thrilled to be joined by one of Amy’s dearest friends, Wendy Mason, as we discuss how in the world we forgive when we would rather get in a cuss fight. Her story is so authentic and full of wisdom! Also, in case you haven’t guessed, we will be discussing cuss fights in our “Country as Cornbread’ segment. How’s that for a diverse episode? Thanks for joining us!

  16. 9

So We’re Going to Be Judgy About Judging People…

In this episode, we’ll talk about being judgy and both share our struggles with this. We’re issuing a challenge to ourselves and all of our listeners to be intentional about building others up instead of tearing them down.  Of course, we will also share what’s bringing us joy as we go about our daily lives.  Hope you enjoy episode 9!

  17. 8

So How Do You Stay Rooted and Grounded for Better or Worse?

In this episode we’ll share some stories about our valentines, Kent and BJ, and maybe get a little too sentimental and serious.  Don’t worry, we will mix in some entertaining stories as well, along with our usual update on all the things that are bringing us joy in the day-to-day.  We hope you enjoy episode 8!

  18. 7

So It All Started With a Pair of Jeans

In this episode, we talk about our recent media tour (yes, you heard that right - we were surprised too), our struggle with “stuff” and working to be content with what we have & the jeans that started it all, recent cold weather, and some new things we’ve decided to try. Thanks for listening!

  19. 6

So What Are We Taking Into the New Year and What Are We Leaving Behind?

In this episode, we catch up from the holidays, chat about some of our favorite moments of 2023, and talk about what we’re leaving behind and taking forward into the new year in order to stay rooted & grounded.  If you’re looking for shows to watch, books to read, or want our take on “The Crown” and the royals, this is the episode for you! We forgot to add your challenge at the end, so here it is:   Each year we learn more about God, ourselves, and His plan for us. 20. 5

So Who is This Tribe Who Brought Us Together?

In this episode, you’ll get to meet our college roommate tribe and hear funny & heartwarming stories from our years at Mars Hill College, which we LOVED! We even recorded this episode sitting on the floor of a bedroom in the beach house we rented for our annual girls’ trip. We talk about throwing Amy a classy bridal shower in Applebee’s, our favorite restaurant in a gas station, and the fact that most of our stories from college belong in our “Country as Cornbread” segment for this episode. Our wonderful college roomies, Angela Atkins, Dawn Keel, Janet Spicer, & Michelle McCaleb share some beautiful wisdom about friendship that you won’t want to miss!

  21. 4

    So This is Christmas

In this episode, we’ll share our favorite Christmas traditions, gift ideas, & of course, talk about the reason we celebrate Christmas...the birth of Jesus. We will post these ideas on our website, rootedandground.com/live-fully. This episode is a little longer than usual because we have lots of good things to share, so grab a snack and your favorite drink and finish up your shopping list!

  22. 3

So What Are We Thankful For?

In this episode, we’ll catch up on what’s been going on and talk about butter a lot more than we should. You’ll get to hear Amy get completely discombobulated when she realizes she never plugged in her microphone. We could have edited that part out, but decided to leave it in for your listening pleasure. We’ll also talk about how being grateful doesn’t always come easy, but God’s goodness can be found in the midst of challenges, and in the simplest of things all around us. Gratitude and thankfulness are keys to staying rooted & grounded in love.

  23. 2

So Why is She So Joyful All the Time?

I think we can all agree there’s a lot of “noise” in the world that can create anxiety, worry, & cause us to compare ourselves and our lives to others. To be honest, it’s something we both struggle with and we can’t hear God if we’re focused on the “noise”. Lately, we’ve read books and watched some shows that cause us to reflect on the good in our lives. Join us as we discuss being content and finding joy in the midst of it all. For fun, we’ll also reflect on our launch of episode 1 (& make fun of some of our rookie mistakes) and introduce a funny new segment called, “Country as Cornbread”.

  24. 1
