    2 Timothy 2:1-7 - 3 Metaphors for Christian Suffering

Written from a Roman prison shortly before Paul’s death, 2 Timothy is a deeply personal letter filled with parting words of wisdom and encouragement. In this sermon series, we explore what it means to embrace our ministry and endure in the faith as we seek to follow Jesus together. Before this sermon, Colleen Froehlich shared her vision for the artwork for our sermon series through 2 Timothy, which can be seen as the art for this episode. I Have Run the Race, 2026Acrylic/mixed media on canvas"The figure is athlete Roger Bannister, who is well known as the first person to set a record for running a mile in under 4 minutes.  Bannister’s legacy is less about athletic accomplishment as it is the fact that he broke a psychological barrier stemming from the popular belief of the time that running a sub 4 minute mile was impossible, even fatal.  His expression as he crosses the finish line is one of near collapse and being emptied after holding nothing back. The subtle, red stains on his hand are reminiscent of how Christ also gave everything.  The red, textured background exudes intensity and is an ominous reminder of the trials Paul endured, as exemplified through his letter in 2 Timothy. In contrast, the refreshing, water-like element which comes down to meet the athlete’s feet represents God’s spirit, which empowers us to move in confidence and humility in the face of adversity. "For more info about Salt Church in Colorado Springs, visit saltchurchcos.com *Salt church currently meets at Ivywild School in Colorado Springs at 9am on Sunday mornings. *
