Supporting Women, Saving Lives: The ELMS Project
In this episode of Screaming on the Inside, hosted by Natalie, we’re joined by Jane Simons, Clinical Director for Service Delivery at VIA, to explore the ELMS Project—a pioneering initiative to develop the UK’s first dedicated women’s detox unit.Jane explains how the ELMS Project aims to address the growing need for gender-specific treatment, offering women a safe, trauma-informed space for drug and alcohol detox. With a focus on a holistic, person-centred approach, the unit will provide a range of therapeutic services, from yoga and massage to emotional support in a comfortable, non-clinical environment.They discuss the unique barriers women face when accessing treatment, from stigma to caregiving responsibilities, and how the ELMS Project plans to overcome these challenges.
