DJ Doug Barnes - Live At The Stonewall Too! Disco (Miami, FL) - 1975 - Reel 2 (Jim Hopkins Remaster)
Here's another rare DJ mixtape from 1975 that I just finished remastering! This is from the Doug Barnes reel-to-reel mixtape collection. This was a time before 12" single extended mixes, turntables with no pitch control, slip cue mixing 45's and extending short tracks by using two copies and cutting back and forth. This is a cool 6 hour mix by Doug and contains some rare early disco tracks! Enjoy! GENRE: DISCO Stonewall Too Disco was located in the 8000 Club Resort in Miami, FL. A gay hotel. **Please sign up for a $5 monthly membership/donation on our Patreon account** to help us keep the archives going strong. DJ Ben Plumly Jr. - First Rookie Mix 11-5-79 (Jim Hopkins Remaster)
GENRE: DISCO From the Ben Plumly Jr. Reel-To-Reel mixtape archives. This is the earliest DJ recording that we have in our archives from Ben. This was one of Ben's first mixtapes when he first started DJing in 1979. He wanted me to title it "First Rookie Mix" since it's the beginning of his DJ career and a few mixes are a little loose. This was a time where DJs were mixing tracks with live percussion, so mixes weren't as tight as drum machine driven tracks. Enjoy! **ATTENTION DOWNLOADERS**: IF YOU DOWNLOAD THIS SET AND PLAN TO REPOST IT ON ANOTHER SITE (YOUTUBE, SOUNDCLOUD, MIXCLOUD, ETC.), YOU MUST KEEP THE TITLE EXACTLY AS IS AND DO NOT REMOVE THE REMASTERING CREDIT. This first installment is a cooperative effort with Jim Hopkins and his San Francisco Disco Preservation Society. The musical surprise we are presenting here was discovered after reviewing Jim’s recent digitizations of the master analog tape reels that Roy recorded on Saturday night March 7, 1981 at The Saint, in NYC. This music was a surprise we thought worth sharing as well!! DJ Vincent Carleo - Live At Trocadero Transfer - New Years Eve 1978 (Jim Hopkins Remaster)
From the Jay Schneider reel-to-reel mixtape archives. Recorded live at The Trocadero Transfer in San Francisco. *This tape was recorded at the slowest speed on reel -to-reel tape, at 1 7/8" inches per second. This speed is usually reserved for voice recording only. Since the tape was recorded at the slowest speed, there's more room for drop outs in the audio, which you will hear from time to time throughout the mix. The tape is also 45 years old. I was able to polish up the audio, remove hum that existed in the recording, and remove the excessive tape hiss.

DJ (?) Mystery Disco Mix (S.F.) - (Jim Hopkins Remaster)
From the Jason WIlliams reel-to-reel collection. Unfortunately, the tape on the reel was Maxell brand, on a Scotch brand metal reel, and the tape was in the wrong box. Therefore, this is a mystery mix, with no knowledge of the DJ that made it. It's still a cool 3 hour mix. Most likely recorded by a S.F. DJ back in 1980. Enjoy!

DJ (?) - The Village Bar (S.F.) - Reel 1 (Jim Hopkins Remaster)
The Village bar was a gay bar located near 18th and Castro, in San Francisco, in the late 70's. This is one 10" reel-to-reel tape they were playing at the bar during the day and night. A mix of disco, soul, funk, pop, rock, and more. From the Jason Williams mixtape archives. Special thanks to Jimmy DePre for digging for the tapes, and delivering them to the SFDPS studio for remastering.

DJ Lou DiVito - Hotmix - WDAI (Chicago) 1980 (Jim Hopkins Remaster)
From the Jimmy Argys mixtape archives. *Due to the age of the tape, there are some unavoidable dropouts throughout the mix. While I don't prefer to remaster from MP3 files, this is a rare recording, and I made an exception.

DJ Roy Thode - Alex In Wonderland - Leather & Feather - Friday, May 29, 1981 (Jim Hopkins Remaster)
From the Roy Thode/Marsha Stern/Jimmy DePre reel-to-reel mixtape archives. Jimmy DePre supplied me with reel #2 from this night. He didn't have reel #1. I contacted Marsha Stern, and she dug up reel #1 from her archives, so that I could join the two reels to have the complete DJ set from that night. Marsha didn't have reel #2 from this recording, so as Marsha says, "It's a match made in heaven!" Thanks for the access to reels, Jimmy and Marsha, so I could remaster this fantastic set!
