The Disease No One Prepared Girls For: Endometriosis & the Fight for Care -- with Nicole Notar
Did you know that endometriosis has been found in embryos? Yes, you read that correctly. Endometriosis doesn’t suddenly begin when a girl gets her first period — research suggests it can start developing long before that. This is not simply a “woman’s disease.” It is a female disease that can impact girls and women across their entire lifespan. In this episode of Sharing Out Loud, I sit down with Nicole Notar, founder of Endo Excision For All, for a conversation every woman, and quite honestly, every human, needs to hear. Nicole shares her deeply personal journey through the pain, dismissal, and medical gaslighting that so many women with endometriosis experience, often for years before receiving proper care. In our conversation, we unpack the harsh realities of living with chronic pain, navigating a healthcare system that frequently minimizes female suffering, and the dangerous pattern of women being told their symptoms are “just anxiety,” “stress,” or “all in their head.” Women (and young girls!) with endometriosis do not need to be dismissed, handed antidepressants, or sent for psych evaluations when they are living with very real physical disease and pain. They deserve to be heard, properly evaluated, and given access to evidence-based care. Through advocacy, awareness, and community support, Endo Excision For All is helping women get the care they desperately need and deserve. Any donations are so appreciated and go directly toward helping women access proper treatment and reclaim their lives. This episode is raw, emotional, validating, and empowering — a reminder that women deserve to be heard, believed, and properly treated. Whether you live with endometriosis yourself, love someone who does, or simply care about the future of women’s healthcare, this is a conversation that will stay with you long after it ends.Questions? Need guidance with surgery or finding a doctor that specializes in Endo and Excision Surgery? Visit https://endoexcisionforall.org/ or send a message via their Instagram page @endoexcisionforall. Nicole is there for any woman who needs guidance.Thank you, Nicole, for sharing your time with me and for all you are doing❤️.xoxo,Heather

Echoes of the Western Front: Briana Gervat’s Solo Journey Through History
Today’s conversation takes us into history—but not the kind you learned from a textbook.I sat down with author Briana Gervat, whose book There Will Come Soft Rains: A Journey Along the Western Front explores the emotional, physical, and human landscapes left behind by war. This isn’t just a story about the past—it’s about what lingers. The silence, the memory, the weight of places that have seen more than most of us can imagine.Briana brings a powerful lens to this journey, blending history with reflection and asking the kind of questions that don’t always have easy answers. This episode is about remembrance, perspective, and what it really means to walk through history—and feel it.In addition to There Will Come Soft Rains, Briana has written 2 other books: Once I Was A Pilgrim, Mosaic, and a children's book called The Once Brave Boy, all of which can be found on Amazon.Where can you find Briana? Well, her Instagram account was hacked and removed, and she has been unable to retrieve it (terrible to see so many of her photos and memories shared there). For now, if you would like to connect with her, please email Briana at [email protected] you for listening, and please help spread the word about this episode and all episodes!P.S. If anyone has an "in" with Reese Witherspoon, this is a perfect book for her book club!xoxo,Heather

Brainstem Stroke to Midlife Powerhouse — with Dr. Kristine Gravino
Today on Sharing Out Loud, I’m joined by the incredible Dr. Kristine Gravino — Ph.D., psychologist, integrative health expert, and a true force when it comes to helping women break self-sabotage and rebuild trust with their bodies. But this conversation? It goes way deeper than mindset tips.We talk about the brainstem stroke she survived in her early 20s — an experience that could have taken her life in a completely different direction. Instead, it became part of the foundation for who she is today. We get into motherhood — raising her two now-grown sons — body image struggles (because yes, even the experts live this), and her very real, very human initiation into perimenopause. And we also go there — into something so many women quietly normalize — mommy wine culture.Dr. Gravino shares her own experience with it, how easy it is to fall into, and how, with the help of community, she was able to pull herself out and come out stronger on the other side. Now? It’s not something she hides — it’s something she owns as part of her life experience.Because that’s who she is. She doesn’t just teach mindset — she lives it. Every single day. She’s one of the most genuinely positive people I’ve met — not in a toxic positivity way, but in a grounded, resilient, “I’ve been through it and I choose how I show up” kind of way. This episode is about doing the work. The real work. And if you’re ready to dig deep, uncover what’s holding you back, and actually step into your strongest, most aligned self — you’re going to want more of Dr. Gravino. You can learn more about her 1:1 sessions, group programs, masterclasses, and her personalized approach to nutrition, movement, and mindset at 👉 drkgravinowellness.comYou can also reach her directly at 📩 [email protected] find her on Instagram 📱 @drkgravinowellness

Ozempic: An Accidental Discovery, A Life Reclaimed -- with Paige Gordon
For more than twenty years, Paige was sick — not visibly sick, but quietly battling bulimia nervosa. And like so many people living with invisible illnesses, she became incredibly good at looking “fine.” She built a life. She had a career, relationships, a social circle. She laughed at the right times. She showed up. But internally, she was locked in a relentless negotiation with food, her body, and shame. For two decades, Paige lived as two people: the woman everyone saw and the woman who hid. And the hiding was exhausting. She wasn’t just managing an eating disorder — she was managing a performance. High-functioning. Capable. Put together. All while feeling deeply unwell. She had been in and out of treatment more times than she could count — therapy, groups, residential programs, books. Each time she declared herself “better,” what she really felt was hopeless. She didn’t believe lasting recovery was possible for someone like her.And then, after twenty years of suffering, something unexpected happened. She stumbled upon a podcast episode discussing GLP-1 medications — specifically Ozempic — and she heard a phrase that stopped her cold: “the food noise went away.”Food noise. The constant, obsessive, intrusive chatter in her brain had a name. And maybe — just maybe — it could be quieted. Now, Paige is very clear: do not go rogue the way she initially did. These are powerful medications that require medical supervision and thoughtful conversations with a physician. But hearing that phrase — and ultimately pursuing treatment appropriately — may very well have saved her life.Today, four years into treatment with Ozempic, Paige is in remission from Bulimia Nervosa. And she’s not just living in recovery — she’s helping lead the conversation. She is an advocate for thoughtful research, clinical exploration, and compassionate discussion around GLP-1s and eating disorders. She’s stepping forward, helping carve a path for others who may still be stuck in silence. There is so much more to her story — much of which we unpack in this episode. And in 2027, Paige’s memoir will be released, sharing even deeper layers of her journey. This is Paige Gordon’s story — and today, she’s sharing it out loud.Want to talk? Paige would LOVE to hear from you! She can be reached through her DM's on Instagram @paigegordonauthor, or you can email her [email protected]

Loud, Political, and Pro-HRT: Dr. Alexis Dunne Unfiltered
Today’s guest is the kind of physician who doesn’t just practice medicine — she lives it out loud.Dr. Alexis Dunne is an Internal Medicine physician who pivoted her career to become a menopause specialist after witnessing how deeply women were being dismissed, misinformed, and left to suffer in silence. But she didn’t just stay inside the exam room. She picked up her phone.Yes, she jumped headfirst onto the social media bandwagon — and her very first video? It went viral after Dr. Mary Claire Haver reposted it. Practically overnight, her voice reached thousands of women hungry for clear, evidence-based, no-BS education about what is actually happening in their bodies. And she has not been quiet since.Dr. Dunne has become known for her LOUD voice — not only in the menopause space, but in the human rights space as well. She takes her oath to “do no harm” very seriously, and for her, that extends beyond prescriptions and lab results. It includes speaking up. Advocating for bodily autonomy. Calling out misinformation. Addressing the very real political forces shaping healthcare in this country right now. Because, as she says — medicine is political. And silence? That can cause harm. What makes her even more magnetic is her dry sense of humor and unapologetic, no-BS attitude. It’s refreshing. It’s sharp. It cuts through fear and confusion with clarity and just the right amount of wit. She tells the truth — even when it makes people uncomfortable — and somehow makes you laugh while she’s doing it.Dr. Dunne is deeply passionate about women taking charge of their health earlier — not later. When women say, “I’ll wait to start HRT,” she asks: Why? What exactly are you waiting for? To lose bone density? To increase your cardiovascular risk? To watch your brain fog, joint pain, sleep disruption, and mood shifts steal your quality of life? She believes in proactive, preventative care — not waiting until the damage is done. This conversation is bold. It’s empowering. It might ruffle a few feathers — and that’s exactly the point.Let’s dive in.Be sure to follow Dr. Dunne on Instagram @dunnewithmenopauseWant to make a virtual appt with her in Illinois? https://www.advocatehealth.com/doctors/alexis-p-dunne-1336324367?address_id=60489&source=sparkle&patient_type=returning_patientThank you, Dr. Dunne, for taking so much time to hang out with me! xoxo,Heather

What 24 Years of Medical Gaslighting Cost One Woman -- with Callie Greenberg, Endometriosis Warrior
In this episode of Sharing Out Loud, I’m joined by Callie Greenberg — healthcare insider, endometriosis survivor, and a woman who is LOUD when it comes to owning your body and your story.Callie spent nearly two decades working inside the healthcare system — only to be dismissed, gaslit, and failed by it. Her pain began at 13, and for 24 years she was told it was “just bad cramps,” “in her head,” or simply “part of being a woman.” Spoiler: it wasn’t.At 37, Callie was finally diagnosed with stage 4/5 advanced endometriosis. After surgery to remove invasive tissue and masses from her uterus, ovaries, tubes, and bladder, she hoped the worst was behind her. But endometriosis had other plans. Multiple failed IVF rounds followed as the disease impacted her egg quality, and just 18 months later, the pain — and the masses — returned. At 39, Callie was forced to make the devastating decision to have a total hysterectomy.Endometriosis stole Callie’s chance to carry a child. And like so many women, she spent most of her life never being told what endometriosis was — or how deeply it can affect fertility, physical health, and mental well-being.Callie is an open book — because, like me, she believes sharing is caring… and sharing is being a badass. In this raw, honest conversation, we talk about medical gaslighting, grief, loss, rage, advocacy, and the power of speaking your truth out loud so other women know they’re not alone. This episode is a must-listen for anyone who has ever been dismissed by the medical system, struggled with chronic pain, or felt unheard in their own body.Because what happened to Callie shouldn’t keep happening to anyone else. You can find Callie on her Endo Warriors Podcast , on Instagram @endowarriorspodcast , and on her website, www.ownmyendo.com , where she offers more information/resources about Endometriosis as well as how you can sign up for "ENDO BESTIE", a program that offers personalized guidance, grounded support, and real conversation from someone who has walked the endometriosis path and learned how to move from surviving to partnering with her body, her care team, and her life.

What if healing meant walking back into the rooms you’ve spent your whole life trying to escape? -- with April Garcia
Welcome to the podcast — I’m so honored to welcome April Day Garcia.April is the author of the breathtaking memoir The Room to Be Brave, a book built around one powerful question: What if healing meant walking back into the rooms you’ve spent your whole life trying to escape? In Room to Be Brave, April invites us into the invisible house we all carry — the one made of memories that shaped us, moments that broke us, and rooms we’ve kept locked for far too long.Because every memory lives in a room. The apartment where Child Protective Services came. The stranger’s couch where she woke up filled with shame. The living room where she decided to leave California for good. Some rooms hold laughter and light. Others hold grief, fear, and the kind of shame we’re convinced we’ve buried forever. For a long time, April believed healing meant closing doors. Now she knows it means opening them — slowly, honestly — and letting the light in.Through surviving a brush with death, recovering in a body she didn’t recognize, living with chronic illness, navigating addiction, divorce, and a deeply complicated relationship with her mother, April has learned something profound:Bravery isn’t about feeling brave. It’s about showing up for yourself again and again — even when you’re exhausted. This memoir isn’t about perfection or resolution. It’s about the messy, ongoing work of piecing yourself back together — room by room, breath by breath — and finding the courage to step into the very spaces you once believed would break you.I cannot wait for you to hear this conversation. Please follow April on Instagram @theroomtobebraveYou can also pre-order her book on Amazon (launches JANUARY 27!)And you can visit her website https://www.aprildaygarcia.com/Consider this book as a gift for friends or propose reading it for your book group. This is a memoir that will be in your thoughts for a long, long time.xoxo,Heather

Menopause, But Make It Sudden: When Surgery Changes Everything -- with Fliss Hoyle
Today’s episode is an important one — and an honest one.Fliss Hoyle is back for her second conversation with me, and this time she’s sharing a story that far too many women are living quietly: surgical menopause.Fliss is the founder of Lived Experience Inspires, a company dedicated to bringing the patient voice and lived experience into the heart of healthcare, education, and workplace culture. Her mission is simple yet powerful: to break the stigma, build compassion, and empower people — from students to senior leaders — to create environments rooted in understanding, well-being, and genuine human connection. In this episode, Fliss opens up about her hysterectomy and the sudden hormonal crash that followed. While the world is finally starting to talk about menopause — often framed as “natural menopause” — very few conversations address what happens when a woman is thrust overnight into surgical menopause. There is no “peri.”There is no gradual transition. There is just a crash. A crash of estrogen.A crash of progesterone.A crash of identity, well-being, and stability — often without adequate education, support, or hormone replacement offered.Fliss speaks candidly about what it feels like when hormones are abruptly removed, the impact on mental health, physical health, relationships, and self-trust, and how historically, women in this situation were expected to cope — silently. This conversation matters. Because surgical menopause is menopause. Because hormone loss is not benign. And because lived experience deserves to be heard, believed, and acted on.If you’ve ever felt dismissed, confused, or blindsided by your body — or if you care about creating safer, more compassionate systems for women — this episode is for you. This is Sharing Out Loud. And this is a conversation every woman deserves to hear. Please follow Fliss @fliss_livedexperienceinspiresAnd visit her brand new website! https://www.livedexperienceinspires.com/And let's keep the conversation going by SHARING THIS EPISODE!xoxo,Heather

You Are Not Too Old: Andryea Natkin’s Fight for Hormones
Today’s conversation is one you won’t forget. I’m sitting down with Andryea Natkin — a 73-year-old ceramic artist who’s fighting for her right to access the hormones she deserves. Andryea is on a mission — a fierce, unapologetic mission. She’s tenacious. She’s brave. And she’s absolutely not taking no for an answer.Because here’s the truth: whether you’re just beginning your perimenopause journey or you were denied hormones years ago because of the falsely reported WHI study — you deserve to live a full, healthy life.Let’s be clear: vaginal estrogen does not cause blood clots, breast cancer, or dementia. And transdermal estradiol does not increase the risk of blood clots, stroke, or breast cancer. This is about facts. It’s about choice. And it’s about reclaiming the health and vitality that should never have been taken from us.Andryea’s story is proof that it’s never too late to demand better care, ask harder questions, and refuse to be dismissed. Please share this episode with all of the peri/menopausal women you know! You can find Andryea on Instagram @andryeanatkinAnd on her website: https://andryeanatkin.com/Let's cheer her on! Decoding Hormones + Reclaiming Your Health, with Dr. Noor Al-Humaidhi, aka Dr. Noor
Dr. Noor Al-Humaidhi, aka Dr. Noor, is a women’s health physician who offers menopause treatment and wellness services tailored specifically to women. Driven by her own experience, she founded Lifestyles to empower women through perimenopause and menopause with real education, data-backed strategies, and personalized care. She is breaking barriers and speaking loudly about a topic that has been brushed aside, minimized, and misdiagnosed for far too long. She is also a firm believer in treating women earlier — because you don’t have to wait for the “magic day” when you’re officially one year beyond your final period. Women deserve support and intervention before they lose years of feeling like themselves, and before their bodies, including the brain, start to decline (heart disease, osteoporosis, brain changes).Dr. Noor also pushes back on the idea that it’s “too late” for the women who were scared away by the WHI (Women's Health Initiative) report. Age 60, 65, 70? She believes women still have time to improve how they feel and the quality of the years ahead. Longevity isn’t just for the young — it’s for every woman. Her biggest, most important piece of advice? GET EDUCATED. Purchase a copy of Estrogen Matters and bring it to your doctor's appointment! We all need to help change the narrative around women’s hormones, so give her a follow on Instagram and share her content! @askdrnoor You can also visit the practice website at https://www.lifestylesbynoor.com/ and, if you are local, make an appointment!

The Real Girls Guide to Over 55 -- with blogger and author, Angela Burk
🎙️ The Real Girls Guide to Over 55 with Angela BurkI met Angela in the comments section of Instagram while going down the rabbit hole of everything menopause. Something about her instantly stood out — her humor, her honesty, her unapologetic confidence. Lived Experience in Action: How Fliss Hoyle Trains Others to Understand Mental Health
Meet Fliss Holyle, born and raised — and still living — in the UK. At just 17, her world was turned upside down after a horrific car accident that set off a chain reaction of mental and physical health challenges. What followed was years of battling depression, anxiety, panic disorder, and an eating disorder — and later, a severe medication reaction that triggered bipolar disorder and led to her first stay in a psychiatric hospital. For the next sixteen years, Fliss had to rebuild herself, piece by piece, while facing new diagnoses like seizures, PMDD, and IBS. But instead of giving in to despair, she found purpose in helping others. Fliss discovered that the best way to quiet her own struggles was to lift others through theirs.Today, Fliss used her lived experience to train teachers, healthcare professionals, and businesses on how to better support people living with mental health disorders. She’s also a sought-after inspirational speaker, sharing her story at universities and nurse training programs across the UK.In this episode, Fliss shares what it really takes to rebuild your life from the ground up, how empathy can transform pain into purpose, and why hope is never lost — even when everything seems broken.Questions? Sobriety & Hormone Health: Never on Autopilot
Hormones and sobriety — guess what they have in common?!!! You've got just me talking today from a recent Instagram LIVE. Let's dive in!1. Just like sobriety, hormone health requires ongoing attention, monitoring, and support. Ignoring either one can set us back.2. Our bodies change, our needs shift — which means treatment and support must evolve too.3. Community, education, and ongoing care are the pillars of both hormone health and sobriety.4. Neither is a quick fix. Both are lifelong journeys that deserve respect and commitment.5. The more we talk about this, the more people will understand that tending to hormones and sobriety is health care, not weakness.Taking care of ourselves isn’t a one-and-done deal. It’s an ongoing investment in living our fullest, healthiest lives. 💪✨Do you still need a menopause doctor? From Darkness to Light: Kiki Hurwitt on Healing, Health, and Hope.
RE-RELEASE! A shortened version of my amazing conversation with Kiki❤️Kiki Hurwitt is an absolute powerhouse I discovered on the 'gram. I reached out to her because I wanted to hear the story behind the face in her “before” photos from 2020. What pushed her to take control of her health—her life? What I wasn’t prepared for was the raw honesty of her journey—how her unhealthy relationship with alcohol began, and what it took to break free. I wasn’t prepared for a lot of this conversation, actually… but this is why I started the podcast: For women to share their stories of resilience. For women to rise from the ashes—and help others rise, too. Because when we tell our truth, we give someone else hope. 💫My new motto? "If Kiki can do it, so can I." She radiates joy, strength, and pure light. Her happiness is infectious. Kiki, thank you for trusting me—someone you didn’t know—with your story. It was an honor to hold space for it.💬 You can follow Kiki on Instagram: @thelykkeviking🎧 Please share this episode—and all our episodes—with the women in your life who need a reminder that it’s never too late to begin again.xoxo, Heather

Solo episode celebrating 6 years of sobriety!
Six years ago today, I woke up after drinking once again—only this time was different. I knew I was done. I still had alcohol in my system, so I decided the next day, March 21, 2019, would be my first fully sober day. But today, March 20, was the day of my awakening.Last night in the She Walks Canada coaching group, we talked about what it means to be sober and stay sober. For me, it has meant that every single day is hard work. Every day, I have to look deep within myself—not just to see what I can do better, but to do better. And every day, I wake up knowing that my life is a gift. That should be the way everyone feels, whether you’re recovering from addiction or not—because nothing in this life is guaranteed.Things look different now. I don’t think about drinking much, but every so often, I glance at a wine glass and think, Wouldn’t it be nice?—and then reality slaps me back. I remember the depths of despair while I was in my heaviest drinking days, barely hanging on, drowning in trauma, and navigating what I now know was perimenopause. I was so hollow inside. I was contemplating suicide daily, convinced my family would be better off without me.I’m so grateful for the people in my life who never stopped hoping I’d wake up one day and realize that my life did matter. That I mattered.I still carry regrets. I still have days when shame and guilt creep in. But I have come so far. And if you’re struggling, please know that you can, too. Keep going. You are worth it.Follow me @heathermdanby on InstagramVisit www.shewalkscanada.com for weekly coaching calls (women only)Follow @thedeliberateone on Instagram for sober help and motivation. The Faces of Empowerment. Women, Beauty, and the Power of Aesthetic Enhancements...
In this episode, three influential women—Alexandra Bos (author, yoga teacher, tech expert), Becky Parker (mindset coach/certified hypnotherapist, author), Tiffany Lee Gaston (women's fitness expert/model, author, athlete), share their journeys with aesthetic enhancements. From boosting confidence to embracing self-expression, we dive into the stigma surrounding beauty enhancements and discuss how these decisions can be empowering, transformative, and life-affirming. While some women may choose treatments for the wrong reasons, or take things to the "extreme", this conversation is an example that not all stories end up on an episode of "Botched."We took to Instagram LIVE for this candid conversation, where each of us opens up about why we’ve chosen specific procedures and how making those decisions is deeply personal. We also emphasize that there should be no judgment from anyone else when it comes to our bodies and choices.Thank you for listening and please follow all of these women on Instagram!@beckparkerrr and https://relationshipsuccess4life.com/ to explore her coaching services. Shame is a lie and we need to remove it to believe our inherent value -- with Bronwyn Schweigerdt
"And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk to blossom." -- Anais NinBronwyn Schweigerdt is a licensed psychotherapist and host of the Angry at the Right Things podcast. In her work, she emphasizes the importance of acknowledging and processing emotions, particularly anger, which is often repressed or disowned. She believes that emotions such as hatred and betrayal, if left unaddressed, can manifest as mental health issues like depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, or even psychosis.Rather than focusing on fixing others’ problems, Bronwyn's approach encourages people to confront and verbalize their most difficult feelings. She asserts that these emotions don't disappear—they stay within the body and, if ignored, can cause long-term psychological distress. By helping individuals externalize their anger and reconnect with it, she helps them break free from harmful cycles and heal their relationships with both their anger and themselves.Bronwyn holds two master's degrees—one in counseling and another in nutrition—and is a well-rounded professional who also serves as a public speaker and author. Through her therapeutic work, she has helped many people achieve lasting relief from mental health struggles by addressing the root causes of their emotions. You can find Brownwyn on FB, on Instagram @schweigerdtbronwyn, and of course, on the various podcasts apps with her show, "Angry At The Right Things." You can also watch/listen here: https://angryattherightthings.com/Thank you Bronwyn for this insightful and thought-provoking conversation. It was truly illuminating!

Thank you so much for being on Sharing Out Loud AND being a part of my own recovery journey through the She Walks Canada FREE WEEKLY Coaching calls. From Julie:Addiction is in the face of the girl next door, it can be in the computer lab with a tech specialist, it can be in the Principal's office, it can be at your Dentist, or in my case ..….. it was in the mirror.I didn’t want to be an alcoholic, drinking was my favorite thing! It relieved my stress after a long day of mommin’, it was my reward when I did something right, it was in all the celebrations I made up so we could have a party. Alcohol Abuse Disorder had me.The thing is, alcohol is an addictive substance. If you drink it enough you can (and most likely will) become addicted. It didn’t matter how many 30-day cleanses I did to prove I wasn’t an alcoholic, on day 30 I was loaded.Eventually, I couldn’t stop. I would need a drink in the morning to relieve the shakes and help me function. My brain was wired to believe the only thing that would help pain was alcohol. It wasn’t until I decided to get help that I learned all the other issues behind my addiction. In treatment, I got to know my traumas very well and work through them. I also got to understand how I am the way I am. Perfectionism and people-pleasing were crippling effects of childhood trauma. Because of that, I believed I wasn’t worthy, good enough, or even loveable. In adulthood, I put so much pressure on myself to prove how great I was that I lost my most valuable thing…........me.What I have uncovered in my years of sobriety is something I will never give away again. MY SOBER SELF is wise, honest, loving, loveable, funny, courageous and resilient. If I were to wager a guess, I bet yours is too.If you are looking for individual help Julie is your person! You can find her on Instagram @julzkirschke, or you can go to her website: https://www.mysoberself.ca/Julie also does intermittent coaching in the She Walks Canada FREE weekly calls.Thank you again, my friend. You are a true gem of a human and a bright light in the sober community.XXX,Heather

Choosing to jump and soar -- with Rebecca Sekulich
Rebecca! Where have you been all my life? If we had met in high school or college, we would have been fast friends, there is no doubt in my mind. And it might not have been a stretch seeing that Rebecca grew up in MI, summered "Up North" at family cabins/cottages (as I did and still do), and went to Michigan State, where several of my family members and friends have gone.About Rebecca:Rebecca's career is in real estate and home remodeling/construction, but her passion is people; how can she change the lives of her clients? How can she help them get the most out of the sale of their home so that they walk away with the money they need to purchase another property, retire with a little more ease, or send their children to college...Like many people in real estate, this was not what she thought she would ever be doing. She thought she was going to be a lawyer but then switched her major to geography/topography (after a professor suggested she had some talent). And what did she do with that? She was a teacher for a while but was also a filmmaker, which ultimately is what took her to California.Rebecca does something most people in this world don't. She listens and then takes action. If someone she trusts and respects suggests she should do something (job, career, life "stuff"), she does it! She JUMPS and then guess what happens? She SOARS. This doesn't mean her life is all roses all the time, we all have our fair share of troubles, but she lives life to the fullest and she gives to others because that is what makes her truly happy. In addition to investing, remodeling and selling houses, Rebecca is the most enthusiastic DETROIT LIONS fan I have ever met! She has spent her whole life cheering them on, waiting for the team to have an opportunity to play in the Super Bowl and this might just be the year!Rebecca, you are one of the most kind and generous humans I have ever met. Thank you so much for talking to me! I look forward to our follow-up conversation very soon. You can find Rebecca on Instagram @houseofsekulichAnd for any real estate needs you can visit her here: https://www.sekulichhomes.com/

Midlife and sobriety -- with Patti Palmer
She's back! Ok, she never left! Our conversation went from menopause to sobriety all in one session so I decided to split it into 2 episodes. However, there is a big connection between drinking and perimenopause (hint: they don't mix!).Sober stories never get old because anyone struggling needs to know they are not alone, and the more stories we hear, the more we can confirm that there is power in the community. If you are in the middle of a bad divorce or have gone through a bad divorce, this might be something you can relate to. Too many women go down the path of alcohol abuse when their marriages break up because let's face it, divorce can be downright ugly. But Patti's story does have a happy ending so for anyone struggling, there is hope. And there is always hope when it comes to recovery as well. We just have to be ready and willing to ask for help.xxx,Heather

The importance of learning WHY you drink -- with Chrissy Janiga
“Nobody realizes that some people extend tremendous energy merely to be normal.” -Albert CamusMeet Chrissy Janiga, LCSW. Certified Alcohol-Free, Mindset, Success, Spirituality, and NLP Coach. Plus, she's an author and a Podcast Host (Soulful and Sober).A little about Chrissy...I often thought about not drinking. However, due to alcohol being normalized in our society and labels like alcoholic, I never got help. I never identified myself as a problematic drinker. Years later, I realized you can stop anything that isn’t serving you. Drinking impacted my health and brought on a lot of shame. On my 39th birthday, I decided to work on my relationship with alcohol. My journey was far from perfect, and I believe the messy middle helped me quit. After I officially said I quit, it was like a weight was taken off my shoulders. I no longer had to worry about moderating and trying to control an unpredictable substance. By listening to my intuition and not drinking, I realized I needed to strengthen my intuitive powers. During a walk, I had the idea to write a children’s book and published my first book in May 2023. I have now begun to work on a non-fiction book. Doors truly did open once I stopped drinking alcohol. Thank you so much Chrissy for giving me your time. You can find more information about Chrissy and her coaching programs on her website, www.chrissyjaniga.comFollow her on Instagram! @chrissyjanigaAnd of course, check out her podcast, Souful and sober.

Redefining Resilience -- with Malaysia Harrell
Meet Malyasia Harrell, Founder of Blissful Life Consulting | Spiritual Transformation Coach | Mental Health & Wellness Advocate | Psychotherapist | Corporate Wellness Strategist & Consultant | Military Veteran | Keynote Speaker | Author | University Board Member | Philanthropist | Podcast Host.WOW! That is a lot of accolades😲.As a psychotherapist, coach, speaker, and veteran, Maylasia has observed how resilience has become a buzzword in our culture. While resilience is important, she likes to take a different approach with her clients and when speaking at events. It was the life-altering event she experienced in 2020—a near-death encounter, that reshaped her entire perspective and purpose. Being on the other side of the therapy chair, transitioning from caregiver to patient during her own healing journey, allowed Maylasia to cultivate a profound level of empathy and understanding. It is this deeply personal experience that now fuels her passion for assisting others in their own paths to healing and empowerment. The near-death experience served as a catalyst for Malaysia to delve deeper into complementary and alternative medicine, seeking holistic approaches that address not just the physical, but also the emotional and spiritual dimensions of wellness. This journey also led her to become a staunch advocate for suicide prevention and mental health awareness, recognizing the crucial role of emotional well-being in overall health. The company Malaysia founded, Blissful Life Consulting, is dedicated to providing holistic wellness solutions that integrate traditional therapy with complementary and alternative approaches for individuals, groups, leaders, and employees. Celebrating Resilience: The Journey of AnaLori Smith
I’m excited to share a glimpse into the inspiring journey of my friend, AnaLori Smith, whom I met through the amazing free weekly sober coaching calls with SHE WALKS CANADA. Since January, I’ve come to know AnaLori as the beautiful, funny, intelligent, tiny queen she truly is. I really had no idea what her sober story entailed and I knew nothing of her early life.During our sober calls, we often touch on personal stories, but it wasn’t until recently that I learned just how remarkable AnaLori’s journey has been. From the start, she’s captivated us with her vibrant spirit (her growth in sobriety is incredible), but the depths of her experiences are nothing short of astonishing.AnaLori’s life began with tragedy. Sadly, her mother passed away during childbirth in a war-torn country leaving AnaLori, who also has Cerebral Palsy, orphaned and alone. After a few months in an orphanage, she was adopted by an American family who lovingly brought her into their large family (9 children in total! AL is the youngest) but like many of us, as she grew into her teenage years, AnaLori discovered that alcohol could help with social anxiety and all of the other challenges teens experience. And once alcohol got into her system, well, she was off to the races.Intrigued? You should be! I am not going to give it all away here -- you are just going to have to take a listen! I will give you a hint! AnaLori used to be confined to a wheelchair but a few months ago she donated it to someone in need❤️ since she can now walk with just her walker and of course, ride around town on her little yellow bike! Her journey reminds us that transformation is possible, even when the odds seem stacked against us. AnaLori is not just a survivor; she’s a beacon of hope for all of us navigating our paths. I’m grateful to have her in my life and to witness the incredible strides she’s made.Let’s celebrate AnaLori by sharing this incredible podcast episode with everyone you know, and following her on Instagram @analorismith.Thank you, AnaLori, for SHARING OUT LOUD with me. It was truly an honor to have you on the pod.xoxo,Heather

Taking back your power during MENOPAUSE!
Meet Katey Armstrong!I was first introduced to Katey when she was on the YOU ARE NOT BROKEN Podcast with Dr. Kelly Casperson talking about Menopause and her experience with prolapse, (when 1 or more of the organs in the pelvis slip down from their normal position and bulge into the vagina). As soon as I started listening I knew I had to have her here on SHARING OUT LOUD because I too am experiencing menopause, AND I experienced prolapse as well (we think no one talks about menopause - NO ONE talks about prolapse!!!).Katey and I talked about everything...Taking her power back with MENOPAUSE by being fully educated with what's going on in her body and demanding the best care from her doctor (she is on HRT).Picking herself up by the bootstraps to reinvent herself after a shocking discovery in her marriage.Being the ultimate STRONG grandmother so that she play with her grandchildren as they grow!Working with the elderly in extended care facilities to change their mindset on not giving up on what they can do to change their bodies physically -- you CAN get stronger with movement, even at 80!Building and motivating an online fitness community with LIVE ZOOM classes each week.Katey is one amazing, unique, and powerful woman, a woman who cares so deeply for others, all she wanted to do was talk about her ZOOM fitness clients and her elderly fitness clients whom she has been motivating in extended care facilities for YEARS! These are the people that bring her absolute joy. They are the REASON she is motivated to take charge of her health! She needs to be the best she can be so that she can continue to have the energy to keep them motivated.I know you are going to love Katey as much as I do so go follow her on social media and be sure to check out her ZOOM exercise programs on her website!Follow Katey on Instagram @healthyevolutionbykateyVisit her website: https://www.healthyevolution.ca/

HAPPY NATIONAL MENOPAUSE MONTH! LET'S BE LOUD AND PROUD!
Celebrating National Menopause Month: Be Loud and Proud!October is National Menopause Month, a time to spotlight a "natural phase" of life that affects half the population but often remains shrouded in silence. It’s time to break the stigma, embrace our journeys, and advocate for the care we deserve! Why Go Loud and Proud?Menopause is a significant transition that can bring a mix of physical, emotional, and psychological changes. Yet, it’s often talked about in hushed tones or avoided altogether. This secrecy can lead to misinformation, a lack of support, and feelings of isolation for those experiencing it. Being loud and proud can create a culture of openness and understanding.Demand the Care We DeserveIt's crucial to advocate for our health and well-being during this time. Here are some steps to help you and others:Educate Yourself: Knowledge is power! Understand the symptoms, treatment options, and what to expect. Share this information with friends and family to demystify menopause.Speak Up: Don’t be afraid to discuss your experiences with healthcare providers. If you feel unheard or dismissed, seek a second opinion, or 3rd or 4th! Keep going until you find someone who will listen. Your health matters!Build a Support Network: Connect with others going through similar experiences. Share stories, advice, and resources. Community support can make a world of difference.Challenge the Stigma: Use social media and community platforms to share your journey and encourage others to do the same. The more we talk, the more normalized it becomes!WATCH THE NEW DOCUMENTARY, THE M FACTOR, on PBS. October 19, 2024.Menopause is not an ending; let’s celebrate our strength, and resilience, by being loud and proud. By doing this, we can pave the way for better understanding and care for future generations. So, let’s unite this month (and beyond) and make some noise! Share your stories, support each other, and demand the care we all deserve. Together, we can transform the narrative around menopause and ensure that no one feels alone in their journey. 💪✨Want to share on this podcast? Please reach out on Instagram @heathermdanby or you can email me at [email protected]!!!xxx,HeatherCORRECTION: National Menopause Day is the 18th, not the 17th. And the M Factor doc is out on the 19th! I was just so excited I misspoke!
