Slow Bible

The Slow Bible (with Mary Spencer) is an invitation for us to sit back and spend time praying with the Word of God, to soak in the Scriptures and in the presence of God. It is a precious break from the busyness of life. It’s a form of an ancient contemplative practice: Lectio Divina. These Latin words just mean “divine reading” - always brought with stillness, with contemplation, with repetition, and with a slow reading, creating space for the Holy Spirit to speak; Read, Reflect, Respond, Rest

    Philippians 4 v11-14

Philippians 4:11-14New Living Translation11 Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. 12 I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. 13 For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. 14 Even so, you have done well to share with me in my present difficulty.Music: "Rest in the Shadow" by Julian & Melissa Wiggins,Used with permission.

    Ephesians 6 v 10-13 (from the Archive)

Ephesians 6:10-13 (from the Archive)New Living Translation10 A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armour so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armour so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.Music: "Rest in the Shadow" by Julian & Melissa Wiggins,Used with permission.

    Romans 8 v 38-39

Romans 8:38-39New Living Translation38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.Music: "Rest in the Shadow" by Julian & melissa Wiggins,Used with permission.

He had seven horns and seven eyes, which represent the sevenfold Spirit of God that is sent out into every part of the earth. 7 He stepped forward and took the scroll from the right hand of the one sitting on the throne. 8 And when he took the scroll, the four living beings and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp, and they held gold bowls filled with incense, which are the prayers of God’s people. 9 And they sang a new song with these words:“You are worthy to take the scroll    and break its seals and open it.For you were slaughtered, and your blood has ransomed people for God    from every tribe and language and people and nation.10 And you have caused them to become    a Kingdom of priests for our God.    And they will reign on the earth.”Music: "Rest in the Shadow" by Julian & Melissa Wiggins,Used with permission.

    James 3 v 2-6a

James 3:2-6New Living Translation2 Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way.3 We can make a large horse go wherever we want by means of a small bit in its mouth. 4 And a small rudder makes a huge ship turn wherever the pilot chooses to go, even though the winds are strong. 5 In the same way, the tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches. But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire. 6 And among all the parts of the body, the tongue is a flame of fire.Music: "Rest in the Shadow" by Julian & Melissa Wiggins,Used with permission.

  10. 17

He is the great God, the mighty and awesome God, who shows no partiality and cannot be bribed. 18 He ensures that orphans and widows receive justice. He shows love to the foreigners living among you and gives them food and clothing. 19 So you, too, must show love to foreigners, for you yourselves were once foreigners in the land of Egypt. 20 You must fear the Lord your God and worship him and cling to him. Your oaths must be in his name alone.Music: "Rest in the Shadow" by Julian & Melissa Wiggins,Used with permission.

    Psalm 62 v 5-8

Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.9 “You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? 10 Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! 11 So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.Music: "Rest in the Shadow" by Julian & Melissa Wiggins,Used with permission.

But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him. 2 Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. God will surely judge people who are immoral and those who commit adultery.5 Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said,“I will never fail you.    I will never abandon you.”6 So we can say with confidence,“The Lord is my helper,    so I will have no fear.    What can mere people do to me?”7 Remember your leaders who taught you the word of God.
