e84 Search Me: in Fear
SoulWork NotesSearch Me — in FearAs you move through this week, notice where fear rises within you. Not to shame it. Not to deny it. But to bring it honestly into the presence of God.Fear often appears where something feels uncertain, vulnerable, or beyond our control. It can lead to hiding, hesitation, overthinking, or the feeling that we are not enough for what is in front of us. And yet, Scripture reminds us that God often meets people not after fear disappears—but in the middle of it.Gideon was hiding when God called him a mighty warrior. And even in Gideon’s questions and uncertainty, God remained patient and present. “I will be with you.”As you move through this week, let those words stay near.A Prayer to CarryGracious and faithful God: Thank You for meeting me gently in the places where fear still lives. When uncertainty rises, remind me that I am not alone. Where fear causes hiding, draw me into trust. Where fear creates hesitation, strengthen me with Your presence. Lead me in Your way everlasting. In Jesus’ name, amen.Go Deeper: Notes from the SanctuaryIf you desire to go deeper this week, I invite you to join my newsletter, Notes from the Sanctuary. SoulWork Notese83 Search Me: in JealousyAs you move through this week, notice when jealousy arises within you. Not to judge it. Not to push it away but to bring it into the presence of God.Jealousy often surfaces when something we value feels threatened—a relationship, a sense of belonging, or even how we see ourselves. When it comes, gently pause and ask: What is this revealing in me?Let that question remain open. Let it lead you into deeper awareness, not quick answers.Scripture reminds us that even here, God meets us—not with condemnation, but with invitation.A Prayer to CarryGracious and loving God, You see what rises within me and You do not turn away.Search my heart with love. e82 Learning to See: The Future
SoulWork Notese82 Learning to See: The FutureA reflection on John 21:15–19In this episode, we sit with a quiet conversation between Jesus and Peter. After the resurrection, after the meal, Jesus turns toward Peter—not to revisit failure, but to restore and prepare him for what lies ahead.Through a series of questions and responses, Jesus meets Peter in love, entrusts him with care, and calls him forward. This passage shows us how Jesus holds both our past and our future— healing what has been and leading us into what is still to come.SoulWorkWhere do you carry a memory of getting it wrong—with God, with others, or within yourself? What do you notice about the way Jesus speaks to Peter—and what does that show you about how He meets you?Where might Jesus be inviting you to respond to His question, “Do you love me?” in your life right now?SoulWork HomeworkThis week, make space for a simple, honest response to Jesus.Set aside a few quiet moments and pray:“Jesus, you know that I love you.”Then choose one small, concrete way to live that love:offering care to someonetending to a responsibility you’ve avoidedshowing up faithfully in a relationship or taskLet your love for Jesus take shape through one act of faithfulness.Closing Blessing PrayerGracious and faithful God, thank You for meeting us in our failures with mercy, patience, and love. e81 Learning to See: The Lord Made Known
SoulWork Notese81 Learning to See: The Lord Made Known, a meditation on John 21:1–14The disciples return to what they know—fishing. They work through the night and come up empty. Then Jesus speaks. The water is the same. The nets are the same. The men are the same. What changes is His word.At His instruction, their empty nets are filled with abundance. And in that moment, they recognize Him.“They knew it was the Lord.” (John 21:12)This moment echoes the wedding at Cana (John 2), where Jesus also provides in abundance. In both places, He makes Himself known—not through explanation, but through provision. In John’s Gospel, abundance is a sign of life— life that comes from Jesus and is sustained by Him (John 10:10).The miracle happens within their ordinary work. Not apart from it.And recognition comes through encounter— through His voice, through His presence, through what He does.SoulWorkWhere have you been showing up faithfully and still experiencing emptiness? What might Jesus be inviting you to do differently—even if it feels small or ordinary?Where have you seen a glimpse of His provision or presence recently?SoulWork HomeworkChoose one ordinary area of your life—your work, your home, a conversation, a routine. As you enter that space, pause and pray: “Jesus, I’m listening. Show me where You are at work.” Then take one small step of trust in response to what you sense—something simple, concrete, and faithful.Stay attentive throughout the week to how He meets you there.Closing Blessing PrayerMay the Lord who makes Himself known meet you in the ordinary places of your life. May you recognize His voice, trust His word, and see His provision where you once saw lack. And as you walk through this week, may you come to know—quietly and surely—that He is with you, and that He is at work. In Jesus’ name, amen. e80 Learning to See: The Truth
SoulWork NotesLearning to See: The Truth, a meditation on John 20:24-29.Welcome back to our series, Learning to See, where we are walking closely with Jesus through the Gospel of John, learning to see him as he reveals himself using Lectio Divina, Latin for a close reading of a passage of scripture. One of the twelve disciples, Thomas (nicknamed the Twin), was not with the others when Jesus came. They told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he replied, “I won’t believe it unless I see the nail wounds in his hands, put my fingers into them, and place my hand into the wound in his side.” Eight days later the disciples were together again, and this time Thomas was with them. The doors were locked; but suddenly, as before, Jesus was standing among them. “Peace be with you,” he said. Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and look at my hands. Put your hand into the wound in my side. Don’t be faithless any longer. Believe!” “My Lord and my God!” Thomas exclaimed. Then Jesus told him, “You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.” -John 20:24-29, NLTSoulWork HomeworkThink of a moment when it was difficult to believe or trust again. What made that moment hard? What did you need in that space?Write a few lines reflecting on how Jesus may have been present with you, even if you could not see him at the time.Blessing for the WeekMay you be met by Jesus in the places where belief feels difficult. May you know His peace, even behind closed doors. e79 Learning to See: The One Who Calls Our Name
SoulWork NotesLearning to See: One Who Sees Us, a meditation on John 20:11-18.Happy Resurrection Sunday and welcome back to our series, Learning to See, where we are walking closely with Jesus through the Gospel of John, learning to see him as he reveals himself using Lectio Divina, Latin for a close reading of scripture. Now Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus’ body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot. They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?” “They have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I don’t know where they have put him.” At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus. He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?” Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.” Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”). Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them that he had said these things to her. -John 20:11-18, NIVSoulWork HomeworkThis week, make space to notice where Jesus may be calling your name.Return to one moment each day—a quiet pause, a breath, a prayer. And simply ask: “Jesus, where are You meeting me right now?”Write down what you notice. Not to force clarity—but to grow in awareness.Blessing for the WeekMay you be reminded that Jesus sees you fully and meets you faithfully. We are using a favorite prayer method - Lectio Divina, a Latin phrase that translates as “Divine Reading” but simply means a close reading of a passage of scripture.TextI am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. -John 15:1-5, NIVSoulWork HomeworkThink of a time when you tried to do something apart from Jesus. What motivated your decision? What lesson did you learn from that experience?Write a few lines reflecting on how Jesus remained with you, even in that choice.Blessing for the WeekMay you always live with a desire to stay connected to the True Vine. SoulWork NotesLearning to See: The Savior, a meditation on John 3:16Welcome to our series, Learning to See. For the months of February, March, and April—including the season of Lent—we are making space to walk closely with Jesus through the Gospel of John, learning to see him as he reveals himself. We will be using a favorite prayer method - Lectio Divina, a Latin phrase that translates as “Divine Reading” but simply means a close reading of a passage of scripture.According to the Upper Room, “One ancient practice central to Christian prayer is called lectio divina or “divine reading.” In lectio divina, we begin by reading and savoring a short passage of scripture. Our inner posture is one of a listening heart with an unhurried expectation that God has a message to convey especially suited to our circumstance. We read and ruminate with the ears of our heart open, alert to any connections the Spirit may reveal between the passage and our life situation. We ask, “What are you saying to me today, Lord? Reading, reflecting, responding, and resting—this forms the basic rhythm of lectio divina. God is present in you through the Spirit who speaks to you in scripture and prays in you and for you.” (Source: https://www.upperroom.org/resources/lectio-divina-praying-the-scriptures)Meet the Savior“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (NKJV)SoulWork HomeworkThis week, sit with this text, allow it to sync into your mind, body, and spirit, into every breath.Allow it to remind you of three things: Jesus loved you before, Jesus loves you now, Jesus will always love you. After accepting that truth, see anything that concerns you through the love of Jesus.Write a line or two in your journal about it how feels to see your life through the lens of Jesus who loves you.FYI, those in my email community will receive teaching resources to use alongside the series. God is present in you through the Spirit who speaks to you in scripture and prays in you and for you.” (Source: https://www.upperroom.org/resources/lectio-divina-praying-the-scriptures)Meet the Word In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overtake it. -John 1:1-15, NRSVUESoulWork with John 1:1-5First reading, ask yourself, What word or phrase stands out to you?Second reading, ask yourself, What feelings, thoughts, or needs come forth?Third reading, ask yourself, “What do you think God is saying to you?”Fourth reading, just sit with the words of the text.As the words of the text linger, what is one thing you need to say to God ?SoulWork HomeworkThis week, sit with this text, allow it to sync into your mind, body, and spirit, into every breath.Allow it to remind you of three things: Jesus was, Jesus is, and Jesus always will be.After accepting that truth, see anything that concerns you through truth of who Jesus is.Write a line or two in your journal about it feels to see your life through the lens of Jesus.FYI, those in my email community will receive teaching resources to use alongside the series. Through story, prayer, breath, and silence, we consider how joy often sounds like freedom—unpolished, expressive, and unconcerned with perfection. Sometimes, that noise is exactly what worship looks like, echoing Psalm 100.This episode includes:An opening prayerGuided breathwork focused on sound and expressionA reflection on joy, freedom, and worshipSoulWork prompts for personal reflectionA gentle SoulWork practice for the week aheadA closing blessingSoulWork PromptsWhere in your life could you use a little more joyful noise? What tends to quiet your voice or keep you from worshipping freely?Think of a time when you offered your voice—imperfect and unfiltered. e56 Graceful Forgiveness: When God Forgives Us
Soul Care Notese56 Graceful Forgiveness: When God Forgives UsThis week, we pause at the cross and listen to one of the most astounding prayers ever spoken:“Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”Jesus forgives from the cross — not after the pain has passed, but in the very middle of it. His words remind us that God’s forgiveness is not conditional; it’s complete, enduring, and freely given. When we receive that forgiveness deep within, something shifts: shame loosens, self-blame quiets, and the heart begins to rest.Forgiveness from God is permanent. And when we accept it, we learn to forgive ourselves — to stop rehearsing old failures and start living from grace.SoulWork for the WeekWhen you imagine Jesus saying, “Father, forgive them,” how does it feel to include yourself in “them”?What parts of your story still struggle to believe you’re forgiven? How might fully receiving God’s forgiveness change how you see yourself today? What would it look like to extend that same compassion to yourself this week?Breath PrayerInhale: God’s mercy covers me.Exhale: Shame has no home here.Soul Care InvitationEach morning, look in the mirror and gently speak this truth aloud:“I am forgiven. I am free.”Write down one way you will live like it today — a small act of grace toward yourself.Until next time, may God bless and keep you, may God’s face shine upon you, and may God grant you peace as you continue your SoulWork. e55 Graceful Forgiveness: The Power of Forgiveness
SoulWork NotesEpisode 55: The Power of ForgivenessScripture: Matthew 18:21–22Series: Graceful ForgivenessThis month, we’re entering a sacred rhythm of release — exploring what it means to forgive with grace. Forgiveness isn’t about excusing or forgetting; it’s about freedom — the kind of freedom that allows our souls to breathe again. In this week’s episode, we begin with The Power of Forgiveness. Peter asks Jesus, “How many times must I forgive?” and Jesus responds with a number beyond counting — seventy times seven. Forgiveness isn’t a transaction; it’s a transformation. It’s a rhythm of returning to grace, again and again. You’ll be guided through prayer, breath, reflection, and SoulWork that help you open your heart and practice letting go.SoulWork for the WeekWhat’s one grudge or hurt you’ve held onto, and how has it shaped you? What fears come up when you imagine forgiving that person or situation? How does Jesus’ teaching challenge your sense of fairness or control? What kind of freedom might God be inviting you into through forgiveness?Breath PrayerInhale: Grace flows in.Exhale: Bitterness flows out.Soul Care InvitationWrite the name of the person or situation you’re releasing on a small piece of paper. Pray over it daily, asking God to help you let go.At week’s end, tear it up, burn it, or bury it — a holy act of release. As you do, whisper: “God, I choose freedom.”Until next time, may God bless and keep you, may God’s face shine upon you, and may God grant you peace as you continue your SoulWork. e54 Fearless Faith: Refusing to Give Up Hope
Soul Care NotesThe Shunammite Woman: Refusing to Give Up Hope(2 Kings 4:8–37)The Shunammite woman’s story reminds us that fearless faith is not about pretending everything is fine—it’s about trusting that God is still faithful even when life breaks our hearts. This week’s SoulWork invites you to rest in that tension between grief and hope, loss and resurrection, and to trust the slow work of God.Reflect:Where have you felt hope slipping away? What might it mean to say, “It is well,” even when it isn’t yet?How can you nurture hope through prayer, breath, or community this week?Breathe deeply and whisper:“Hope lives here.”Until next time, may God bless and keep you, may God’s face shine upon you, and may God grant you peace as you continue your SoulWork. Soul Care NotesBithiah, Pharaoh’s Daughter: Doing the Unexpected Thing(Exodus 2:1–10)Bithiah’s courage began with compassion. In a moment when fear ruled Egypt, she chose love—and that love altered history. She reminds us that fearless faith doesn’t always roar; sometimes it simply refuses to look away. This week’s SoulWork invites you to examine where God is calling you to love beyond the expected, to act from mercy rather than fear.Reflect:What lines—of comfort, culture, or expectation—might God be inviting you to cross? When has love led you to do the unexpected? How can you trust that even small acts of compassion carry divine weight?Breathe deeply and whisper:“Love is always the greater law.”Until next time, may God bless and keep you, may God’s face shine upon you, and may God grant you peace as you continue your SoulWork. e52 Fearless Faith: Saying What Needs to Be Said
Soul Care NotesThe Prophetess Huldah: Saying What Needs to Be Said(2 Chronicles 34:22–28)Huldah’s story reminds us that fearless faith often begins in quiet discernment. Before she spoke, she listened. And when she did speak, her words carried the authority of a life aligned with God’s heart. This week’s SoulWork invites you to practice both listening and courage—to discern when to speak, what to say, and how to say it with love.Reflect:Where is God inviting you to speak truth in love? What helps you know when your words come from Spirit and not self? What might happen if you trusted God with both your silence and your speech?Breathe deeply and whisper:“May my words be rooted in Your truth and my silence in Your peace.”Until next time, may God bless and keep you, may God’s face shine upon you, and may God grant you peace as you continue your SoulWork. Their courage didn’t just change their story—it changed the law for all the daughters who would come after them. This week’s SoulWork invites you to listen for where God is calling you to stand, speak, or act with holy courage.Reflect:Where might God be inviting you to speak up for what’s right? What fears rise when you imagine using your voice? How can you root your boldness in love instead of anger?Who might find courage through your example?Breathe deeply and whisper:“The daughters of Zelophehad are right.”Let those words become your prayer for justice, courage, and faith in the God who sees and affirms your voice.Until next time, may God bless and keep you, may God’s face shine upon you, and may God grant you peace as you continue your SoulWork. Soul Care Notese48 Soulful Sisterhood Series: Bearing One Another’s BurdensIn Galatians 6:2, Paul reminds us: “Bear one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”True sisterhood is more than joy and celebration—it is the willingness to hold one another in seasons of sorrow, loss, and weariness. In this episode of Sister Soul Care, we remember that burdens are never meant to be carried alone. God places sisters in our lives to share the load, and in doing so, to lighten it.SoulWork ExamenWhen have I allowed someone else to carry part of my burden? How has sharing burdens deepened my relationships? What burden might I gently entrust to a sister this week?Soul Care InvitationThis week, share one prayer request with a trusted sister. Let her carry it with you before God.And if you’d like to experience the gift of shared burdens in community, join me for our next Sister Soul Care Live Session. It’s a sacred pause to breathe, reflect, and pray together—because we are not meant to walk alone.Until next time, may God bless and keep you, may God’s face shine upon you, and may God grant you peace as you continue your SoulWork.
