God names the discouragement so you don’t have to carry it alone (v. 1-3) God gives the strength so you don’t have to find it yourself (v. 4-5) God owns the outcome so you don’t have to produce it (v. 6-9) Big Idea: God meets His discouraged people right where they are and fills what looks like nothing with glory only He can provide.

I) Reverence produces obedience. (v. 12) II) God comforts by assuring them of His Presence. (v. 13) III) When God stirs, His people confidently move. (v. 14-15) Big Idea God does not call us to follow Him without assuring us of His Presence.

Part 1 — The Trial of King Jesus (v. 53–65) The trial of Jesus reveals: 1) God’s plan cannot be stopped. (v. 53–59) 2) Jesus is the Lord of all. 1) Your pride will deceive you. (v. 27-31) Questions to Ask Yourself Are there blind spots in my walk with you, Jesus? Where is pride lurking in my life? Are there any ways I’m saying, “I’m fine” spiritually when really I’m not fine? 2) Your humility will enable prayers to spill out of you.(v. 32-36) 3) Your watchfulness and prayers will guard you.(v. 37-42) 4) Your prideful prayerlessness will dishonor you. (v. 43-52) Reflection: Will you be prideful and prayerless like Peter, or humble and prayerful like Jesus? Main Idea: Humble prayerfulness fuels Christlike obedience.

1: The Meal Was Sovereignly Prepared 2: The Passover Table Reveals the Disciples’ Hearts 3: The Passover Lamb revealed 4: The Preparation of His Disciples 5: Worship Before the Cross The Nail: The gentle Savior who planned the moment, prepared the table, and presented Himself as the Passover Lamb calls His people to remember and worship.

Main Idea: Beautiful worship puts your familiar past, faithful present, and future prospects all at the feet of Jesus. Important Terms: Markan “sandwich” & Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread Important People: Pharisees/Scribes, Unnamed Woman, & Judas Iscariot Parallel Passages:Luke 10:38-42 & John 11:1-44

There are 4 ways to interpret Mark 13. It could mean: 1) The destruction of the temple ~70 AD 2) End times 3) Final judgment 4) Jesus' death & resurrection Big Idea: May the people of God be faithful when structures we trust fail and fall. Jesus is in ultimate control. (v. 1-4) Opposition is not a sign of failure; God remains sovereign. (v. 5-23) The crucified Christ is over all things and coming back (v. 24-27) Be on guard and stay awake; this is a posture command. (v 28-37) Stay awake! Be faithful! Keep working!
