Talk Booky Decides Whodunit: Episode One

It's time to break out the magnifying glass, put on our thinking caps, and find a giant dog that has a loose command of the English language because...a mystery needs to be solved this May! Join us, Felicia and Aaron, as we get ready for our monthly reading full of tangled mysteries and twisted criminals. We cover some news about Animorphs and anticipated May releases, follow up with a book exchange and a TBR brimming with investigation and sleuthing, provide some listener recommendations, and finish with a question about the weirdest things we use to save our page when we need a quick snack or bathroom break. Talk Booky Gets Lost in Translation: Episode Three

The last two week so April have been a mixed bag for Talk Booky. On the one hand, Felicia started full-time teaching while taking several literature classes, meaning she read a lot (of student writing) and had to write an ungodly amount about the few books she read.  On the other, Aaron finished three five-star books, almost finishing his TBR for the first time since starting the podcast. Regardless, this has been a fun one. Join us as we cover news about raising literacy rates and celebrating women who are pushed to the edge (weird combo this week), and talk through several books ranging from detective stories set during the Civil Rights Movement to fluffy dreams of turning into an eagle to questionable dietary restrictions in a dystopian future. It's an absolutely wild ride. We wrap up with some superlatives and a fun question on living in literary worlds to lighten the mood. Talk Booky Gets Lost in Translation: Episode Two

A few weeks into a month of translated literature, you may assume we learned a new language, but you would be wrong. You may assume we read some amazing books, and you would be right. That's all that matters...right? Right?! Join us, Felicia and Aaron, as we cover our mid-month reading progress for April. We start with some news about historical fiction and people who may make history, move to our TBR progress that involves hard-boiled detective novels and worlds where you can buy dreams. We then recommend some translated books in rapid-fire mode and wrap up with some random recommendations that have very little to do with literature. Talk Booky Gets Lost in Translation: Episode One

One of our favorite things as literature lovers is experiencing something new. April brings about Spring, washing away some of the stagnation of Winter, and ushering in change. Join us, Felicia and Aaron, as we kickoff the new season with works in translation! This episode opens with some news on massive amount of upcoming books and a new Lord of the Rings film co-written by a comedian (huh?). We then exchange books originally published in a non-English language and set up TBR's filled with the languages we wish we could speak, ranging from mysterious hotels full of dreams to wintery towns where the only dream is hockey. Then, a listener contributes some suggestions, and we sign off by reflecting on our favorite reads of the year so far. Talk Booky's Odd World: Episode Three

It's weird to wrap up the weird month with a lot of weird feelings about the weird books we read. That's a weird sentence...anyway, join us, Felicia and Aaron, as we wrap up March! We open with some news about nostalgic literature getting its flowers and the new shortlist for an international award (foreshadowing our next theme at Talk Booky). The discussion moves to a few books we purchased and our TBR progress. This is where is gets...weird. Okay, I'll stop. But seriously, we read such an odd range of books this month that the conversation ranges from meticulous interpretations of queer themes in eco-thriller novels to philosophical ponderings of a ghostly woman who returns to Earth with her butt in the air like a Looney Tunes character. Get ready for plenty of laughs and some disappointments as we deliver superlatives and conclude with some random recommendations about TV and stationary. Talk Booky's Odd World: Episode Two

It's fitting that our "odd" month includes an odd recording schedule. Here we are, four days before mid-month, trying to share our progress so far, and the content is...surprisingly rich! Join us, Felicia and Aaron, as we cover some news on new releases and the British Book Awards, move on to discuss our reading progress which is full of assassins and eating-the-rich, share listener recommendation and rapid fires on odd books, and wrap up with a question about Michael Crichton and how to handle an author's conflicting beliefs. It's a new month, so that's a brand-new chance to finish a TBR! Join us, Felicia and Aaron, as we cover some news about boundary-breaking women in Japan and fighting oppression in Ukraine with poetry before we introduce our new theme. Not to spoil it, but it's going to be a weird month. Talk Booky Elevates Black Voices: Episode Three

Another February rolls to a close, and we, mostly, broke the curse of book slumpage (we know that's not a word, but cut us some slack). Join us, Felicia and Aaron, as we halfway celebrate a February of rich reading. We start with some timely news about Black literature recommendations and not-so-timely news about a Shakespeare folio. We move on to books we purchased or were gifted, including some relevant Black literature and some titles that might find their way into our March theme (teaser). The thinner part of the episode then opens with our discussion about books we read and our superlatives for the month, including a lot of disappointments as we read for necessity and grind to a stand-still on books we enjoy, for the most part. Regardless, we have a lot of fun conversations and wrap up with some recommendations that will certainly improve your lives. Talk Booky Elevates Black Voices: Episode Two

The usual book slump of February can't stand up to us this year! Join us, Felicia and Aaron, as we do a mid-month update on our reading progress during the month that usually sends us spiraling into a cave that drains our ability to read until March. Not in 2026...well, at least for one of us! We open with some exciting news about a childhood favorite book getting an aged-up sequel and Booker Prize winner heading to the big screen. Then, we discuss the odd and sprawling range of literature we finished since the 1st, including many classics and a few modern hits, give some rapid-fire recommendations in honor of Black History Month, and wrap up with a timely question about breaking a reading slump with a comfort read. Talk Booky Elevates Black Voices: Episode One

February is usually the slowest month for the Talk Booky duo, but we are meeting it with fierce motivation this year. The regular below-freezing temperatures and requirements to read literature that is over five-hundred years old won't deter us from making the most of this year's Black History Month. Join us, Felicia and Aaron, as we cover some lists of Black literature recommendations, exchange books that are sure to enrich the diversity of our reading, and set up TBRs based on uplifting Black voices during some of the most racially trying times in recent history. We then outsource some strong listener recommendations and end with some (mostly) free resources for literature news and access to reading materials. Talk Booky Predicts Five Stars: Episode Three

We may not visit five-star restaurants very often, but this month was full of five-star books. Join us, Felicia and Aaron, as we wrap up a month full of odd and impressive reads. Nostalgia washes over this episode as we revisit the small and mighty hobbits of Tolkien, reminisce about days in front of the TV with thumbs hammering the A-Button to make Mario jump faster, and get lost in...the TV show Lost. We open with some news about 30 books across 30 years and five adaptations that supposedly outshine the novels they are based on, discuss our reads since mid-month, dish out superlatives, and wrap up with a character-driven question. Talk Booky Predicts Five Stars: Episode Two

We at Talk Booky don't want to say we can predict the future, but this episode makes a good case for us. Join us, Felicia and Aaron, on our pursuit of five-star books to kick off 2026. We are halfway through January with a few hits already. This episode kicks off with some news about Southern literature that breaks stereotypes and YA adaptations that are likely to embrace stereotypes before moving to our TBR progress. This is where things heat up. Aaron already found a five-star read that quite literally fell into his mailbox, and Felicia shed tears for her first two five-star reads of the year. The Talk Booky Awards: 2025

2025 has been horrible. Let's just say it. It's been horrible. Politics have been horrible, gas prices are horrible, meat prices are horrible, war is horrible...look, it's just been horrible. Regardless, we are here. Join us, Felicia and Aaron, as we hold our annual Talk Booky Awards that require use to debate (loosely) for the books that were not horrible (and were actually AWESOME) and make the tough decision on deciding which of those not horrible books is our favorite of the podcast. The clock is seriously ticking down on 2025, and we guess all of you are struggling as much as we are to finish any sort of reading goal for the year, but here we are. Join us, Felicia and Aaron, as we discuss our mid-month progress on the December reading crunch. We open with the GoodRead's Choice Awards and the first few days of our personal book exchange. Then, we move on to our reading progress, marked with some new scary stories by old favorite authors and an advent calendar disaster that made one of us (you guess who) wish to be the victim of the titular "Xmas Butcher." Talk Booky Thanks Families: Episode Three

Our bellies are full of turkey, and there are enough leftovers to feed a family of seven resting in the fridge as we record this episode, and there's no better way to wrap up the month about families. Join us, Felicia and Aaron, as we round-out November. We open with news about book recommendations from NPR and MPR (yes, those are two organizations - not a typo), share our recent experiences at a few new book stores, and dive into our slim pile of literature since mid-month. The conversation swings wildly between tropey family dramas, complexities of generational trauma, rugby romances, dealing with work-families, and...hold on (checking my notes) a man in heart-patterned boxers with a pet cat named Princess Donut. I'm not sure how that last title ended up here, but believe me - it's one of Felicia's favorites. We dish out superlatives and finish the conversation by looking forward to Christmas. Talk Booky Thanks Families: Episode Two

We made it halfway through November which may or may not be great, depending on how the year has been for you. Regardless, the podcast must go on. We, Felicia and Aaron, managed an episode about family during a time when families are loosely defined. This episode has some news about the GoodReads Choice Awards and video games based on novels. We move on to our TBR progress which is covered with YA manga about a world void of magic, expected favorites that we won't mention, and a Ya-Ya story. Talk Booky Thanks Families: Episode One

Large meals are around the corner, so we are tightening our belts and prepping our stomachs as we move into November. Join us, Felicia and Aaron, as we set up a new theme about families and exchange some interesting books about different (and somewhat concerning) family dynamics. We start with some news about the horror of America to cap off the scary month and some newly discovered books to, hopefully, branch into some fresh directions. Then, we exchange books, set a TBR that would make our families proud (haha), and end with a question about adapting our favorite books to comics. We finally made it! Join us, Felicia and Aaron, for a bombastic finale to City of Glass. We cover part three and the epilogue in this episode, sifting through all the long-time-coming revelations, explosive fight scenes, emotional reunions, and confusing loose ends. Talk Booky Looks Back: 2025

It feels like we received our first ARC, completed another set of spoiler episodes, blinked, and it was suddenly the end of our second year. Join us, Felicia and Aaron, as we reflect on another full year of Talk Booky to Me. This episode is a nice, informal reflection on our second year of themes, favorite books, and overall reading progress. It gives us a nice space to vent and brainstorm some goals for year three. Thank you, sincerely, for hanging out with our little podcast family over the year. We hope we brought you some entertainment, a few laughs, and plenty of book recommendations. How do you link the the philosophical question of life-and-death, a romantic comedy about zombies, Beowulf, and a detective that tracks down lost recipes? Listen to this episode! Join us, Felicia and Aaron, as we discuss our mid-month progress on a TBR centered on the horrors of women (not horrors they commit or the horrors committed upon them - in most cases). Unfortunately, all authors eventually release their final sequel, bringing a series to an end - just like Sequel September. Thankfully, we, Felicia and Aaron, are here to bring it to a close with a massive variety of recommendations to keep your TBR filled through Christmas. We use this episode to cover news on spooky releases, review a bounty of sequels, check-in on our reading challenges (including a disturbing graphic novel about cartoon cats and an unhinged playlist of feminine rage) award September superlatives, and wrap up with a fun question about popular books we will never read. Talk Booky Takes on Sequels: Episode Two

Middle of September means school is back in season and the general seasons are changing, but we are staying the same...by reading sequels to books we already love! Well, that's mostly true. Join us, Felicia and Aaron, as we check in on our TBR of sequels, share some very fun news about ARCs we received, some not-super-fun news about the state of literature in the US, and end with a discussion about books we want people to read but are reluctant to recommend. This is the episode of rambles, but it's fitting since we are focusing on books within series that have no sense of wrapping up within our lifetimes (not a reference to George R.R. Talk Booky Takes on Sequels: Episode One

Moving into September, we, Felicia and Aaron, realized how many unfinished journeys we started. Trips to the stars have been abandoned at the peak of hyperspace. Wizards and knights were left on the road to banish evil. Small-town's healing from trauma were suspended in time, waiting for hockey to save their identity. That last one was too specific, but the point is - we need to start reading more sequels. Join us on this episode as we cover some heartfelt news, set up a TBR related to sequels, exchange books, assign challenges to one another, and wrap up with a fun question about bringing magical items to the real world. Talk Booky Has a Case of Vacationitis: Episode Two

It's time for the obligatory beach episode that plagued early sitcoms. Well, there's not really a beach, and we are not a sitcom, but the podcast is on vacation! Join us, Felicia and Aaron, as we record from a hotel room in downtown Asheville. We hit the road for a work conference, but you know we can't help ourselves. The trip extended into a multi-bookshop tour of the city where we loaded up on enough literature to last at least...two weeks? Who knows. Anyway, in this episode, we start with some news about conventions in Seattle and thrillers to read on vacation, give a tour of the various bookstores and purchases from the city, discuss our sparse reading in August so far, provide some rapid recommendations about time away from home, and end with a question about vacation reads. It's a packed episode with sub-par audio as this air conditioning unit needs to run non-stop to prevent us from fainting, but it's also very fun. July is packed with sunny days and twinkling night skies, and so is this episode. Join us, Felicia and Aaron, as we try to reach out to the great beyond for some deity, alien, or whatever exists up there. We start with news on nonbinary books, cover some books we hauled this month, and move on to our TBR progress. Felicia is especially happy to discuss some humorous Olympian literature and not as happy to explain a few pacing issues that drug her month down a bit, but there are rereads sprinkled in for balance. Talk Booky's Miscellaneous May: Episode One

Welcome to May! Join us, Felicia and Aaron, as we prepare for a very sporadic, likely random, maybe a little chaotic month of reading. We open this one with a few light book articles before exchanging books based on our own randomizer systems and set a TBR with possibly the most range we have covered. We end with a fun question about ranking book characters and walk away from the mic with a fresh list of books to finish over the next 31 days. Thank you for listening, and you can reach us at the outlets below.   Email - [email protected] Instagram - @talkbooky Felicia's GoodReads - goodreads.com/femarie Aaron's GoodReads - goodreads.com/atcole1400

Talk Booky Mixes March: Episode Two

Happy Women's History Month! Although we, Felicia and Aaron, did not focus on Women authors and literature for our March theme, we wanted to take some time to highlight some crucial works by Women in this episode. Join us as we cover some fun news on calligraphy (for some reason) and book awards, discuss recent purchases, and catch up on our current TBR progress. This is all a prelude to rapid recommendations related to Women and an semi-existential question to wrap up the show. Thank you for listening, and we hope you enjoy this one as much as we did. You can reach us at the outlets below.   Email - [email protected] Instagram - @talkbooky Felicia's GoodReads - goodreads.com/femarie Aaron's GoodReads - goodreads.com/atcole1400
