What Does It Mean to Be the Aroma of Christ? (2 Corinthians 2:14–16)

I’ve been spending time in 2 Corinthians 2:14–16, where Paul says that as believers we are the aroma of Christ. It’s such a beautiful and sobering picture to think about how our lives, our words, our attitudes, and even the atmosphere of our homes are meant to reflect Him. In this episode, we talk about what it means to carry the fragrance of Christ in the ordinary moments of everyday life. The hidden faithfulness, the quiet sacrifices, the ways the Lord is shaping us through our daily work, our relationships, and even the moments where we feel our need for His grace most deeply. This was such a good reminder to my own heart that the gospel is not just for the big moments of life. We need it right in the middle of our ordinary Tuesday afternoons too. I pray this episode encourages you to keep looking to Christ and to remember that the Lord is faithfully at work in all the everyday moments of life at home. Biblically Caring for Our Aging Parents

Doug and I are walking through the next season the Lord has for us right now, and it has me reflecting on so much. It’s a season we walked through 14 years ago when Doug’s parents were living in our home and we were caring for his sweet mom in her final days. And now we find ourselves here again, this time with his dad. As I share a bit of what this season has looked like for us, I want to come back to the truths that have anchored me, and what God’s Word says about honoring our parents and loving well in this stage of life. My prayer is that it encourages your heart, wherever the Lord has you right now. Reclaiming Ordinary Life in a Distracted World

In a world that moves quickly, it’s easy to live at a pace that leaves our hearts hurried and distracted. In this episode, I’m sharing reflections from a slower season away and what the Lord has been teaching me about the pace of my days. It’s easy to fill every quiet space with noise and constant input. But when I look at the life of Jesus, I see something different. I see presence. Unhurried conversations. Intentional time with people. Quiet moments in prayer. The pace of our days doesn’t just affect our schedules. It affects our souls. We’ll talk about how ordinary life is where God meets us, how our daily patterns shape our hearts, and how small, intentional choices help us reclaim presence in a distracted world. Looking at the example of Christ and the encouragement of Psalm 1, we’ll be reminded that reclaiming ordinary life doesn’t require dramatic changes. It begins with small steps of faithfulness right where God has placed us. Putting Off the Old and Putting On the New (Ephesians 4:22-24)

Ephesians 4 shows us how change happens in the Christian life: we put off the old self, renew our minds with God’s truth, and put on the new self created in Christ. In this episode we talk through that pattern and how it plays out in marriage, parenting, friendships, our time, and our words. Killing the Sin of Selfishness

Selfishness is one of those quiet sins that can easily slip into our hearts and homes. It often hides behind good intentions or small excuses, but God’s Word doesn’t leave us there. In this episode, we’ll look at what the Bible says about selfishness and how the gospel frees us to love others with the heart of Christ. We’ll spend time in Philippians 2 and talk about what it means to deny ourselves daily, serve as Jesus served, and find joy in living for Him. My prayer is that this conversation helps you see the everyday moments like folding laundry, forgiving, listening, and serving as ways to love others and bring glory to the Lord. Do You Have a Meek and Quiet Spirit

A gentle and quiet spirit isn’t weakness. It is strength under God’s control. It reflects trust in His sovereignty, not striving to be seen or heard. This kind of beauty doesn’t fade with age. It is lasting, Christlike, and precious in God’s sight (1 Peter 3:3–4).⁣ ⁣ If you’re struggling to cultivate this spirit in your own life, you’re not alone. Ask the Lord to grow it in you. Spend time in His Word. Look to Christ. He is gentle and lowly in heart, and He is faithful to complete the work He begins in us.⁣ Head over to ThankfulHomemaker.com for full show notes on all the links and resources mentioned in today's episode.  Free Encouraging Your Husband PDF Homemaking Matters: Living for God's Glory in the Ordinary by Marci Ferrell RESOURCES: Join Thankful Homemaker for access to the Free Library of Resources Follow ThankfulHomemaker on Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest & Instagram Join the Thankful Homemaker Facebook Group Subscribe to the Podcast on Your Favorite App  Online Courses & Printables Thankful Homemaker Merchandise Buy Marci a Cup of Coffee xo  ⁣

    Biblically Communicating With Our Children

Biblical communication isn’t just about getting our children to listen or obey—it’s about shepherding their hearts. It’s discipleship. This episode is for every parent or grandparent who has ever struggled to know what to say, how to say it, or when to say it. We’re looking at what it means to communicate with grace, listen with patience, and speak the truth in love—whether with toddlers, teens, or adult children. God has given us the beautiful calling of pointing our children to Christ—and one of the most powerful tools He’s given us to do that is our words. We’re all navigating decisions for our families in a world that feels louder and more opinionated than ever. Preparing a Place of Peace and Joy: The Life-Giving Role of a Christian Homemaker

Homemaking is so much more than just cooking and cleaning—it’s about creating the atmosphere of our homes. In today’s shorter devotional episode, I’m sharing a refreshed blog post that reminds us of the life-giving role the Lord has entrusted to us as Christian women. True peace in our homes doesn’t come from having everything just right or crossing off our to-do list. It comes from Christ reigning in our hearts. The more we abide in Him—through His Word, prayer, and obedience—the more His peace flows into how we love and serve our families. Walking in Wisdom: Living with an Eternal Perspective

What does it mean to walk in wisdom with eternity in view? So much of life is fleeting, but God calls us to set our hearts on what will last forever (Colossians 3:1-2). In this final episode of the Walking in Wisdom series, we’re stepping back to see the bigger picture—how wisdom not only guides our daily decisions but prepares us for eternity. ✅ Are we investing in what truly lasts—knowing Christ, growing in holiness, and pointing others to Him? ✅ Are we storing up treasures in heaven instead of being consumed by what will fade away? ✅ Are we living in light of eternity, keeping our eyes on Jesus? Jesus reminds us: “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth… but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven” (Matthew 6:19-20). This is about more than just wise choices for today—it’s about shaping our lives for eternity. Walking in Wisdom: Practical Steps for Everyday Faith

This is the second episode in our Walking in Wisdom series, where we’re looking at how biblical wisdom shapes the way we live each day. Wisdom isn’t just for the big decisions—it’s for the small, everyday choices that shape our lives. In this episode, we’re talking about what it means to walk in wisdom in our daily routines, responsibilities, and relationships. How do we choose faithfulness over busyness? How can we speak with wisdom and listen with grace? What does it look like to seek God’s priorities in the middle of everyday life? Ephesians 5:15-16 reminds us to “look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time.” If you’ve ever felt stretched thin or overwhelmed, I pray this conversation encourages you to pause, seek the Lord, and trust that He will direct your steps. Walking in Wisdom: Living Wisely in a Distracting World

Wisdom isn’t just about knowledge—it’s about living in a way that honors the Lord in our daily choices. In a world full of distractions, how do we stay focused on what truly matters? In this episode, we begin a three-part series on Walking in Wisdom, looking at what biblical wisdom really is, how it differs from worldly wisdom, and how we can seek the Lord’s guidance in our everyday lives. We’ll explore Ephesians 5:15-16, where Paul urges us to walk carefully, making the best use of our time because the days are evil. Are we measuring our days by how much we accomplish, or by our faithfulness to the Lord? Are we seeking wisdom in the small, ordinary moments of life? Join me as we lay the foundation for walking in wisdom, trusting God’s Word to guide our steps. Thinking the Best of Others: A Biblical Approach to Love and Grace

It's so easy to assume the worst about others—to misread a friend’s words, question someone’s motives, or let suspicion take root in our hearts. But 1 Corinthians 13:7 reminds us that love “believes all things” and “hopes all things.” What does that look like in daily life? It’s not about ignoring wisdom or discernment, but about extending grace, choosing trust over doubt, and reflecting the love of Christ in how we think about and respond to others. In this episode, we discuss why believing the best matters, why it’s often difficult, and how we can live this out in marriage, friendships, parenting, and church life. There’s freedom in choosing grace over suspicion, and it builds trust and unity in our relationships. My prayer is that this conversation encourages all of us to ask the Lord to shape our hearts to reflect His love more fully. As we step into the new year, I've been reflecting on how to keep Christ at the center of our lives this year. Bringing Order to Your Day: The Benefits of a Brain Dump and Daily Plan

As Christian homemakers, wives, and mothers, our days are often filled with countless responsibilities, and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. In today’s episode, we’re diving into the practice of a brain dump—a simple tool that can help clear the clutter in our minds and refocus our hearts on what truly matters: serving the Lord and our families. We’ll also discuss how to pair this with a reliable task management system, enabling us to steward our time and responsibilities more effectively.  As we walk through these practices together, let’s remember that our worth isn’t measured by our productivity or how perfectly we manage our homes. Our true worth is found in Christ alone. These tools are here to help us be faithful stewards of the time God has given us—not to strive for an impossible standard of perfection.  Don’t forget to check out the free PDF handout that goes along with this episode to help you get started! Wisely Navigating Our Technology

In today’s world, our smartphones have become almost indispensable. They keep us organized with calendars, to-do lists, and reminders. They keep us connected with family and friends through calls, texts, and social media. They entertain us with games, music, podcasts, and videos. However, today’s episode isn’t about getting rid of our smartphones; it’s about using them in a way that aligns with the gospel. Matthew 10:37 tells us that whoever loves anything more than Jesus is not worthy of Him. Our first desire must be to be wholly devoted to Jesus, ensuring that our smartphone use reflects that devotion. In this episode, we're tackling a challenge many of us face: feeling like our homes are in complete chaos. With busy schedules and active households, it's easy to get overwhelmed. But here's some encouraging news—your home probably isn't as messy as it feels. We’ll dive into some of my favorite tips, like setting a timer, focusing on high-impact areas, and involving the whole family in tidying up. Cultivating Biblical Hospitality in Your Home and Life

In this episode, we discuss the theology behind biblical hospitality and explore practical ways to implement it in our daily lives. True hospitality is not about having a spotless home or serving gourmet meals; it's about building relationships and making others feel welcome and loved, always pointing them to Christ. By keeping hospitality simple and focusing on people over details, we allow genuine relationships to develop. Christian hospitality is a lifestyle, not just a special occasion. It's about serving others sacrificially, even when it's inconvenient. We'll discuss the importance of hospitality in the Christian life and walk through some practical tips for involving our children. Plus, I'll share some simple ideas to keep gatherings stress-free and enjoyable. Join us as we embrace the heart of biblical hospitality together. Lessons Learned from My Grandmother

Whenever I am asked, "Who has made an impact on your life?" my mind is drawn to my grandmother. My grandmother is a beautiful woman who had a significant impact on me as a homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother. In this episode, I share some insights into my grandmother's life (she lived to be 102!), the lessons she taught me, and the example she set for me on being a homemaker.  My hope is that this episode will remind us to cherish each moment, love generously, and reflect God's grace and love in everything we do. Jesus' words have authority because He is God. Whether it was the original hearers of the Sermon on the Mount or present-day readers of the Bible, we cannot argue or disagree with the teachings in this sermon because they are the direct words of God Matthew 7:28-29: 28 And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, 29 for he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes. Build Your House On The Rock (Matthew 7:24-27 - Sermon on the Mount Series)

In Matthew 7:24-27, we find a contrast between the wise man who builds his house on the rock and the foolish man who builds his house on the sand. The foundation on which we build our lives is critical when the storms of life come. The wise man hears and practices the words of Jesus, building his house on the Rock, which is immovable. In contrast, the foolish man hears but does not practice the words of Jesus, building his house on sand, which is unstable, and in the end, he will fall. Matthew 7:24-27: 24 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” RESOURCES MENTIONED: Head over to ThankfulHomemaker.com for full show notes. The Danger of Self-Deception (Matthew 7:21-23- Sermon on the Mount Series)

Jesus tells us in Matthew 7:21-23 not everyone who calls Him Lord will enter the kingdom of Heaven. How do we know if we are known by Jesus? How do we know if we are self-deceived? Is our profession merely verbal or intellectual knowledge, or are we those who are truly converted?  When we call Jesus Lord, do we desire to submit to Him as Lord and do as He tells us to do from a heart that has been changed and given new motives and desires? Is there a love for the Lord and His Word and His people?  Matthew 7:21-23: 21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?' 23 And then will I declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.' A Tree and Its Fruit (Matthew 7:15-20 - Sermon on the Mount Series)

We must be diligent students of the Word. We cannot be reminded enough that theology matters. Many people fall into following false teachers because they don’t know what God’s Word says. True character will eventually reveal itself. The fruit will eventually show the character of the tree. It will be clear if the fruit is rotten. Matthew 7:15-20: 15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16 You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. 18 A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus you will recognize them by their fruits. The Influence of Godly Mothers and Grandmothers

As a young believer and a young mother, one of the scriptures that had much impact on me was 2 Timothy 1:5: I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well. The Lord used the influence of Timothy's mother and grandmother in bringing him to saving faith. The Lord also used them in instructing Timothy in the Scriptures (2 Timothy 3:14-17). The Narrow Road (Matthew 7:13-14 - Sermon on the Mount Series)

Our text today comes in at the beginning of the end of the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus knew many would be listening to his sermon and agreeing with it, praising His words, yet they would never enter into the kingdom.  We can’t just hear about the kingdom, agree about what we heard, and go on with our life. There is no neutrality with Jesus - we are either on the broad road to destruction or the narrow road to life.  Matthew 7:13-14: 13 “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. 14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few HELPFUL LINKS: Head over to ThankfulHomemaker.com for full show notes. Ask and It Will Be Given (Matthew 7:7-12 - Sermon on the Mount Series)

We're to be persistent in prayer. We need it just as much as we need oxygen to breathe. It's the lifeline to those of us in the Kingdom - we are still on earth, and as we pray with such persistence continually about all things, it reveals our great dependence on Jesus.  Only through Jesus working in and through us can we stay on the narrow path and walk in righteousness and holiness. So we must continually be asking and keep asking and seek and keep seeking and knock and keep knocking. HELPFUL LINKS: Head over to ThankfulHomemaker.com for full show notes.
