As a personal project, it seeks to honor and catalog the hard working, gifted, and sometimes obscure or forgotten artists who have made an impact on the host. It also serve as a platform for reflection on newly discovered acts.

    Gary Smalley

    Gary Smalley was an amazingly talented musician who touched many lives before his death from cancer in March 1999.  We invite you to share your thoughts about Gary Smalley below Gary was originally from Memphis Tennessee but called Jacksonville, Florida his home where he raised his family and built his music career. Smalley's music career included membership with the Curtis Willis Band and The Roosters, working with the Lynyrd Skynyrd band, and countless side projects. His last studio album, Dancin', was released posthumously.  Today's show is a tribute to Gary and his music, though this broadcast in no way is a complete depiction of Gary's body of work and impact on the many many musicians he worked with. We chose May 21st to release the show in honor what would have been Gary's 67th birthday.     In today's show we feature a man who has been described by music critics and fans as "one of Florida's musical treasures." Steve Shanholtzer is a true original artist. He has been sought after by many song writers and performers as a side man and he never disappoints. Though he often minimizes his own songwriting prowess, Shanholtzer has penned some powerful  works. His life with music has taken him from small coffee houses on an acoustic guitar to concert halls playing in 6 piece bands where he primarily served as a lead guitarist. Tune in for more!     In today's show we honor blues/folk legend, Roy bookbinder. With nearly 50 years on the road behind him, Roy still tours around the country, performing over 70 shows a year. In fact, these days, he books the shows himself--- often from the comfort of his RV home away from home.     Dave Van Ronk

    In Today's show we honor Folk, Ragtime, Blues Legend Dave Van Ronk. Dave was born in Brooklyn New York on June 30 1936 and he died in New york City on Feb 10 2002 at the age of 65. Known as the Mayor of McDougal Street Dave was an important figure in the Folk revival of the early 1960s. With over 40 albums to his credit Dave worked with and influenced the likes of Tom Paxton, Phil Ochs, Ramblin' Jack Elliot, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan and hundreds of other artists. She also happens to be the daughter of legendary rock and roll hall of famer Leon Russell and recording artist Mary McCreary.     Mississippi John Hurt

    In this show we feature and honor one of the greatest folk, blues legends to come out of the Mississippi delta, Mississippi John Hurt. John Hurt was born on July 3rd, 1893 in Carolton County Mississippi. He was raised in Avalon Mississippi and around the age of 9 he taught himself to play guitar. He was the direct descendant of slaves and he spent most of his life in a starkly racially divided community.     Mike Shackelford

    Today's featured artist is Mike Shackelford. He's a singer-songwriter whose music career spans over 40 years.  He was born in Texas, began his music career in the early 70's in Lexington, Kentucky. By the late 70s he made his way to Jacksonville Florida area where he resides today. He has shared the stage with acts such as the Everly brothers, Crosby Stills and Nash, the Beach Boys, and the list goes on.
