Social Media, Baptist Traditions & Ephesians 6

How do I know if my social media use has become sinful? Are there ways to use it well, or should I just get rid of it all?Why do Baptist pastors typically avoid clerical robes, ornate chains, or crosses? What is the motivation behind that tradition? What does Ephesians 6:2 mean when it says children who obey their parents will “live long in the land”? Aren’t there many obedient children who still die young?

  2. 137

NIL & Money Temptation? 2. Why Do We Have Blind Spots? 3. Why Did John the Baptist Doubt?”

NIL and the Transfer Portal in college sports. Is it an evil temptation for 18-23yr olds, since the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil?   Is there any significance to the fact that everyone has blind spots in their character and personality? Couldn’t God have made us fully self-aware?   As I read the Gospels, I start wondering why John the Baptist is so unsure about Jesus and who Jesus is. The Father and Spirit seem to clearly reveal the identity of Jesus as God the Son at his baptism by John. Yet as recorded in Matthew 11:2-6, John sends his disciples to question Jesus. I know this is probably speculation on your part, but I wonder why John appears to be questioning this clearly observed, heard, and experienced baptismal event and message from God.

“Faith in the Tension: Sin, Society, and Raising a Family”

Why does David say in Psalm 51:4 “Against you, you only, have I sinned”? Didn’t he also sin against Uriah and Bathsheba in this instance?   My question came as a result of Pastor Doug's message a couple of weeks ago in Luke 23:27-31. While I recognize that Jesus was probably being specific about the times just prior to his crucifixion when the religious leaders were rejecting his teachings. Is it possible there is another prediction here in Luke? In this passage, is Jesus looking toward times such as today, when women bearing children is not seen as a virtue, but as a hindrance to their growth and prosperity? We see this view in many individuals (couples) putting off marriage, putting off having children, and looking only at their economic progress and financial security.  How can we still prioritize our spouse and marriage when small kids demand most of our time? help make a catchy podcast tittle

“Biblical Truth in a Busy World: Sin, Culture, and Family”

Why does David say in Psalm 51:4 “Against you, you only, have I sinned”? Didn’t he also sin against Uriah and Bathsheba in this instance?   My question came as a result of Pastor Doug's message a couple of weeks ago in Luke 23:27-31. While I recognize that Jesus was probably being specific about the times just prior to his crucifixion, when the religious leaders were rejecting his teachings. Is it possible that there is another prediction here in Luke? In this passage, is Jesus looking toward times such as today, when women bearing children are not seen as a virtue, but as a hindrance to their growth and prosperity? We see this view in many individuals (couples) who put off marriage and having children, and focus only on their economic progress and financial security.  How can we still prioritize our spouse and marriage when small kids demand most of our time? help make a catchy podcast tittle

  5. 134

“Faith in the Tension: Sin, Society, and Raising a Family”

Why does David say, “Against You only have I sinned”?Is Jesus pointing to more than just the cross in Luke 23?How do we prioritize marriage when parenting is overwhelming?

  6. 133

    “Faith, Babel & Suffering”

    1. How should I respond to the death of a person that I know died without faith in Christ?   2. Was the city of Babylon at or near the location of the earlier tower of Babel, or do they just sound similar and have no other major connection?   3. What is a good scripture to read and consider when I am going through suffering?

  7. 132

    “Promises, Parenting, and Praise.” 🎙️

I was just wondering if there was anything else to get out of Joshua 15, where they are telling about all the land that is given, other than showing us God kept his promise? And in that same chapter, it talks about how the Jebusites were allowed to stay, and I didn’t know why that was either. At what age should I talk with my kids about issues of sex and sexuality?  What is the difference between psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs in Ephesians 5:19?

  8. 131

“Ordinary People in an Extraordinary Story”

    1. With the Olympics going on, it’s got me wondering where sports, health, and fitness fit into the biblical worldview.  2. Of what value is “secular history” if it has nothing directly to do with Bible times or church history? (Examples: the Han Dynasty, the invention and development of the automobile, or bootlegging and the mafia during Prohibition) 3. Who are some of your favorite unnamed people of the Bible, and why?

  9. 130

“The Church Family, The Betrayer, and The Prayer Life”

    1. What are some valuable things that young members in the church can gain from older members, and visa versa?   2. Why did Jesus choose Judas as an apostle, since Judas would one day betray him?   3. I am learning to pray. What are some key factors I need to know or keep in mind? make into a short podcast title

  10. 129

“Who Is Israel Now? Family Boundaries, and the Hope of Christ’s Return”

✅ 1. Where does the Bible speak about in-laws and how do we navigate healthy relationships with them?.✅ 2. Is today’s nation of Israel the same “Israel” referred to in Genesis 12:3 — or is that fulfilled in the Body of Christ (the Church)?✅ 3. Why does every generation anticipate the return of Christ if no one knows when it will happen?

  11. 128

    “Truth, Technology, and Theology”

    1. If Adam and Eve’s children married one another as siblings, why don’t siblings date and marry each other now?   2. I know there are lots of angles and applications we could consider regarding A.I. However, in general how should we be thinking about and approaching A.I.?  3. If Jesus is God, how could he die?

  12. 127

“Is All Sin the Same? And Other Big Questions”

Is it weird or hard to understand that Jesus considers all sin the same?My grandmother is such a good person — is it right to think of her as a sinner?Do we know whether Barabbas ever became a believer in Christ?

  13. 126

“Seen Yet Unseen: The Seven Spirits, The Son in the Old Testament, and Why Four Gospels?”

Question 1 — The Seven Spirits of GodWhere can I find more information about the “seven spirits of God” mentioned in Revelation 4:5 and 5:6? I’ve heard the Book of Enoch may talk about this—does it? Is there more information elsewhere in the Bible, and is the Book of Enoch the best resource for understanding this?Question 2 — Moses Seeing God / Christ in the Old TestamentIf passages like 1 Timothy 6:16, John 1:18, John 6:46, and others say no one has ever seen God, but Exodus 33:11 says Moses spoke to the Lord “face to face,” does this mean Moses was speaking to Jesus in the Old Testament? If not, how do we reconcile these verses? And if Jesus says in John 5:46 that Moses wrote about Him, where else in the Old Testament can I look to find Jesus spoken of by Moses?Question 3 — Four Gospel AccountsIf the Gospels are biographies of Jesus, why did God want us to have four different accounts instead of just one?

  14. 125

“Tithing, the Canon, and the Christian Mind”

    1. I’ve heard people use 2 Corinthians 8, specifically verse 8, to say that tithing to the church is voluntary, and not a requirement for believers. How do we biblically support the belief that tithing is a necessary part of a Christian’s life? 2. How did we get our 66 canonized books of the Bible? Other religions, like Catholics, have 74 I think. What criteria, method, and who determined the 66? 3. If the Bible alone is the word of God, why is it ok or even encouraged to read other books or learn from other sources?

  15. 124

“God’s Justice, God’s Word, and Making Disciples”

Exodus 34 is cruising along, talking about the attributes of God—how He is compassionate, slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love… and then BAM!!! All of a sudden it’s “…visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.” Exodus 34:7 ESV. Seems contradictory.  How do we connect those dots? What does Numbers 21:14 mean when it says “the Book of the Wars of the LORD”? I think the Lord may want me to meet with a couple of other guys weekly to do some discipling. What should I be thinking about, and how should I get started?

  16. 123

“Prayer, Parenting, and Practical Faith: When to Persist, When to Rest”

    1. How do these parables about prayer relate to parenting?) Luke 18:1-7 (Parable of the Unjust Judge) and 11:5-8 (Parable of the Midnight Friend) seem like Jesus is teaching that we should always pray and not give up. Am I correct in believing that both of these stories are teaching us not to give up on asking God for something until we get it? And if that is the case, how does this fit with our human parenting when there are times we need to tell our kids “Don’t ask again. I already told you no.” Should we tell our kids “Keep asking, but don’t hold your breath”?2.How do I know if my anger is sinful or righteous?   3.Is it lazy to make good sleep a priority?

  17. 122

    “Baptism, Cooperation, and Generosity”

Did Old Testament believers get baptized?) A person asked if baptism is part of salvation?? His stance was the thief on the cross was still under the old covenant because Christ had not yet died for our sins. This got me to wandering did the followers of Christ in the Old Testament get baptized? If so why don’t we see any record on this in the Old Testament? The first time we see a baptism before Christ death on the cross was, when John the Baptist baptized Jesus.   What is the Cooperative Program of the Southern Baptist Convention, and how does it work?   I wanted to get some clarification on 1 Tim. 6:17-19. From what I've read in the Bible so far, it sounds like Jesus and God have some Communist tendencies without the bad stuff… is that accurate, or am I reading it wrong?

  18. 121

“Revival, Roots, and Relationships: A Beginner’s Guide to Christian Living”

I hear people use the word revival in a spiritual sense. What does that word mean? What is a spiritual revival?   As a new Christian, I’m looking for concrete instructions for Christian living. Is this just a phase or something I should be concerned about?   What are some of your preferred ways to remain a lifelong learner?

  21. 118

“Reputation, Parenting, and Marriage: Living with Integrity in a Messy World”

2 Corinthians 8:21 says we should try to have an honorable reputation in the sight of man. But Jesus said that we should expect to be slandered as we follow him as Lord and Savior. So how do I know if it’s a situation where I should or shouldn’t care what people will think of me?   How do I lead my kids toward the Lord without cramming it down their throats and causing them to resent the faith?   As a married couple how can we resolve conflicts in a healthy way? And if it is important, how can I learn about it?   3. When severe weather comes, I have some friends who intentionally choose not to take any precautions, because they say that God has their days numbered—if it’s their time to go, it’s their time to go. Is this the right attitude?

  42. 97

Deliverance Ministry, Males and Females in Galatians, and Singleness as a Gift

    1. Is deliverance ministry a biblical concept? (As in casting out spirits and demons related to certain problems like: anger, worry, impatience, pride; tearing down spiritual strongholds; claiming victory in Christ over all enemies.)   2. Why does Paul use “and” instead of “or” for male and female in Galatians 3:28?   3. What are some ways that singleness can be used as a gift from God to serve his church and kingdom? **100th ALL TIME EPSIODE**!!!!!! 1. Why do we have Church on Sunday instead of the Sabbath?—Christ rose the day after the Sabbath.   2. What was the meaning of the strict regulations regarding the Ark of the Covenant in the Old Testament?—who could carry it, how to carry it, who could enter into the same room and how often, etc.?   3. How can I love my neighbor as myself, practically speaking? How can I love my enemies, practically speaking? Questions can be submitted at myshbc.com/contact. You can also text them at 505-258-2076 or email [email protected]. All questions will be kept anonymous.

  45. 94

Indwelling Sin, the Bible and Science, and Favorite Moments in Church History

    1. As a Christian whose sins are already forgiven through the finished work of Christ, is it wrong to ask forgiveness for indwelling sin as I continue to grow? Should I focus on “confessing and repenting” of continual sin, as opposed to asking “forgiveness”?   2. How do the Bible and science relate to each other? Specifically regarding origin of the universe, and age of the earth, and evolutionary processes?)  I’ve never had a problem believing in creation and believing in science.  My God made man and my God created science as well.  He is big enough to have done both. The Bible doesn’t tell us everything about creation, it doesn’t tell us how long a day was.  It could have been 24 hours. It could have been 24,000 years.  I live in Norman, there is a museum of natural history right down the street.  To deny that the dinosaurs existed seems almost ludicrous.  Why isn’t more said about how the Bible and science are related and how one offers explanations for the other.  After Doug’s sermon last Sunday this and other related questions seem to be popping into my brain.  I don’t believe that I was formed when two molecules accidentally collided in a pool of mud.   But if that’s how God wanted to do it, who am I to question.  I believe the Bible is the infallible word of God.  Why can’t we use it to help explain science.   3. Believing that there are lessons to be learned from Church history, both for good and for bad, what is a favorite story/lesson from the Christians that have gone before us? The Fire of God, Fire From Heaven, and Submitting to Your Spouse

    1. In Job 1, why is it called the “fire of God” when it was really fire from Satan?) In Job 1,  God gives Satan permission to attack all that Job has. Verse 16 says the fire of God fell from heaven. Why was this called the "fire of God" when it was really fire from Satan? Was this an unique power granted by God for this limited purpose or does Satan really have the power to cause supernatural events like this on earth, but he can't exercise it due to  God's intervention? Or did God do this (described as fire of God) at Satan's request as part of proving His point to Satan that Job was righteous and wouldn't reject Him? (because all other recordings of fire falling from heaven are by God)   2. In Luke 9, James and John ask Jesus if He wants THEM to call down fire from heaven. I can imagine why they might say "Jesus, why don't YOU call down fire from heaven". Why did James and John think that they had the ability to summon fire down from heaven? 3. What does it mean to submit to your husband?) I know it says “Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands.” However, what does this mean? In what aspects is this to be done and when are we going against God if we don’t or aren’t submitting?  Questions can be submitted at myshbc.com/contact. You can also text them at 505-258-2076 or email [email protected]. All questions will be kept anonymous.

The Sanctuary, Deliverance, and Good Things Becoming Sinful

    1. Why do churches call their main auditorium the “worship center” or “main auditorium” rather than “sanctuary”?] When I was growing up churches usually called the place where we met (room where worship services were held) the sanctuary but I have noticed that most churches call that space the worship center or auditorium. I feel like sanctuary is supposed to point back to the Old Testament for example: Exodus 25:8 ESV "And let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell in their midst." But anyways I have noticed that Augusta and I are the only ones that call it that in our friend group so I would be curious to know what our church thinks about the shift? And was the shift intentional for churches as a whole (not just our church)   2. Can a person be delivered from hell in their dying moments by believing in Christ as they are entering hell? I’ve heard people tell about dying in the hospital and while on their way to hell and torment remembered the gospel witness of family and friends and trusted in Christ. Then when resuscitated they lived to tell the story.   3. Is it possible to be too busy with good things, godly things, to the point it is sinful? If so, how do I know, and what should I do?   Questions can be submitted at myshbc.com/contact. You can also text them to 505-258-2076 or email [email protected]. All questions will be kept anonymous.
