Jerry Pattengale is widely known as one of the two founding scholars of the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., a landmark institution that opened in 2017 and has impacted millions around the world. But what many don’t know is that before the museum, before the White House roundtables, before speaking at the United Nations, before co-authoring books and producing a global docuseries—Jerry was a young man raised in poverty who even experienced homelessness. His life is a testimony that God writes extraordinary stories through humble beginnings. A faculty member and administrator at Indiana Wesleyan University, Jerry pioneered what he calls “purpose-guided education,” a transformative approach that calls students—and all of us—to discover calling through the humanities and through deep faculty mentorship. He has written and co-authored many books, including his newest release, The Gospels: A Historical and Cultural Journey, inviting readers to see Scripture with fresh historical clarity and cultural depth.
