    Sing it! Episode 16

"I Shot The Sheriff" By Bob Marley I shot the sheriff, but I did not shoot the deputy. I shot the sheriff, but I did not shoot the deputy. All around in my home town They're trying to track me down. They say they want to bring me in guilty For the killing of a deputy, For the life of a deputy. But I say: I shot the sheriff, but I swear it was in self-defense. I shot the sheriff, and they say it is a capital offense. Sheriff John Brown always hated me; For what I don't know. Every time that I plant a seed He said, kill it before it grows. He said, kill it before it grows. I say: I shot the sheriff, but I swear it was in self-defense. I shot the sheriff, but I swear it was in self-defense. Freedom came my way one day And I started out of town. All of a sudden I see sheriff John Brown Aiming to shoot me down. So I shot, I shot him down. I say: I shot the sheriff, but I did not shoot the deputy. I shot the sheriff, but I did not shoot the deputy. Reflexes got the better of me And what is to be must be. Every day the bucket goes to the well, But one day the bottom will drop out, Yes, one day the bottom will drop out. But I say: I shot the sheriff, but I did not shoot the deputy, oh no. I shot the sheriff, but I did not shoot the deputy, oh no.

Quay Dopler - Photographs Episode 12

The music of songwriter Quay Dopler is a modern day acoustic blend of rock, country, folk, and alternative. Known for his strong vocals and percussive style of guitar play, Quay has been making a name for himself regionally for 10 years as a solo acoustic performer. Influenced by strong singer/songwriters such as Patty Griffin and Damien Rice, Quay puts strong emphasis on lyrical content and song form. In his material you won’t find a watered down, cookie-cutter approach to songwriting so often seen in the modern market. As a performer he is passionate, soulful, story-telling, and commanding as he blends his own material with the great music of other artists both past and present. Quay has been fortunate to have shared stages with some of the best singer/songwriters today including: The Indigo Girls, Patty Griffin, Derek Webb, and Duncan Sheik. Currently in the works is a slated CD Release for mid 2008 as well as a grassroots campaign to market and perform with purpose. Barney's Boogie Train - Cold Kinda Woman Episode 11

Instead of Electrobeat and brush cut, Rock´n´Roll is about heavy leather-jackets,rough biker-boots, monstrous quiffs and cartainly about chicks and sex. In case of Barney´s Boogie Train there are no quiffs but some born-and-bred Rock´n´Roll riffs. Bernd "Barney" Wewer, D.T.Shepherd and Hitém Pete commit themselves to an up-to-date straightforward and simple sound of the swinging and rocking 50ies in a classic cast with guitar, bass and drums. Since forming the German-based trio in 2001 the Boogietrain lets off heavy loads of steam on the stages of live music. Their repertoire contains well-famous Coversongs (e.g. of the rockabilly heroes "Stray Cats") as well as terrific and atmospheric originals - an explosive compound of Rock, easygoing Blues, Swing, wild Hillbilly and Surf. Titles as "Giddy Up Girl", "Devil´s Dance" and "Be Bop A Lula" pledge an upright Rock´n´Roll feeling and put you in a party-mood. Besides being blessed with a wicked smoke-stained villain´s voice "Barney" excellently masters his guitar and makes his live-action a not-to-be-missed experience. Generally the potential of most bands of this genre unseathes up on stage, because Rock´n´Roll is first and foremost fun, profiling and a good deal of physical performance. Not only that the members of the band are simpatico, their groovy and barefaced music (especially the great selection of cover songs) intransigently blows you away.

    San Diego Serenade Ep. 9

Swapmeet Louie is keyboardist and vocalist for TWO bands. He travels and performs constantly. When he's not working, he's in touch with his friends and fans with his blog. Click below to visit Swap! Below is a sample of his latest blog. Enjoy! Tom Waits was born in Pomona, CA… not far from where I grew up. His style of music is hard to define… some jazz, some blues, some rock, some Vaudeville. Wait's voice sounds so whiskey drenched that you'd think he invented the stuff. I came across this 1975 performance and fell in love with it. His voice, the piano, the characters he creates… I get the feeling I'm sitting in some seedy club, drowning my sorrows, tipping the waitress far too much so she'll smile and maybe, just maybe I'll have a chance at taking her home. Take a listen to this gorgeous piece called "San Diego Serenade."

    BIGGEST PARAKEETS IN TOWN

A Greenville, S.C., woman who filed a lawsuit against Victoria’s Secret saying that a defective bra seriously cut one of her breasts has submitted a new version of the suit correcting an error in the depth of the wound, Greenville Online reported. In the original lawsuit, Jessica Lang claimed a bra she bought at the mall “malfunctioned” and caused a cut in her chest and breast "nearly six inches wide and six inches deep." The new claim, filed Thursday, drastically changes that allegation to "3 inches long by 1/4 inch deep, resulting in scarring," Greenville Online reported. Lang’s attorney, Nathan Hughey, says the mistake was a result of a clerical error in a legal document when the lawsuit was originally filed in 2005. It has since been moved from state to federal court. Victoria’s Secret claims no wrongdoing in the alleged injury. They say Lang’s injuries were caused by her own negligence. FIFTH BEATLE NEIL ASPINALL DEAD AT 66

Neil Aspinall, who ran the Apple Corps music empire for the Beatles, has died at a hospital in New York, aged 66. A school friend of Sir Paul McCartney and George Harrison, he was regarded by some of the band as the "fifth Beatle". In a joint statement, Sir Paul, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono and Apple Corps paid tribute to "Neil's trusting stewardship and guidance". Notoriously media-shy, he nonetheless fought hard to protect the Beatles' music, image and copyright. Road manager Aspinall also played background instruments on tracks including Magical Mystery Tour, Within You Without You and Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite. But it was for his stewardship at Apple Corps that Neil Aspinall will be best remembered. Read More Song - "Dreaming In English" by The Spongetones on MySpace

    GREENING THE CHURCH

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Thou shall not pollute the Earth. Thou shall beware genetic manipulation. Modern times bring with them modern sins. So the Vatican has told the faithful that they should be aware of "new" sins such as causing environmental blight. In recent months, Pope Benedict has made several strong appeals for the protection of the environment, saying issues such as climate change had become gravely important for the entire human race. Under Benedict and his predecessor John Paul, the Vatican has become progressively "green." It has installed photovoltaic cells on buildings to produce electricity and hosted a scientific conference to discuss the ramifications of global warming and climate change, widely blamed on human use of fossil fuels. Read More Eliot Spitzer is the story of the day, but the wire story we ran in our paper today about Southern Baptists and climate change also really jumped out at me. A group of Southern Baptist leaders, including the head of the conservative Southern Baptist Convention, released a document this weekend that basically says Southern Baptists have been too timid about climate change and that the denomination should be more serious about the environment. IF YOU'RE NOT IN LOVE WITH A SOLDIER

IF YOU'RE NOT IN LOVE WITH A SOLDIER If you're not in love with a soldier, you can't know adventure. You don't know smelly gray PT uniforms that require a daily washing. You can't understand green and brown camouflaged bags flooding your bedroom floor. If you're not in love with a soldier, you can't understand the meaning of the phrase "going to the field" and the weeks you spend away from each other. If you're not in love with a soldier, you can never imagine the hole in your heart when that phone call comes? "Honey, I am leaving tomorrow to go overseas. I don't know how long I will be gone or exactly where I am going, but I want you to know that I love you - always!" If you're not in love with a soldier, you don't know what it's like to say that final good-bye. You don't know what it really means to be glued to the television. You don't understand fear and you can't possibly understand the sleepless nights of endless crying wondering if you will ever see the love of your life alive again. If you're not in love with a soldier, you can't know the immense joy, the uncontrollable smile, or the butterflies in your stomach when you see your soldier march into the family waiting area upon redeployment. You can't understand the self-control it takes to stand on the other side of the room as some higher-up gives a seemingly endless welcome home speech while all the soldiers stand in formation. You don't know what it's like to have that second first kiss or what it's like to experience puppy love all over. If you're not in love with a soldier, you can't truly understand how to make every moment count because you never know when that phone call may come again. If you're not in love with a soldier, you can never really understand how very delicate life is! The SONG - Girl in the War - Used with permission of Josh Ritter
