A Dream Realized: An Interview with NYT Bestselling Author Tiffany Crum
Listeners, this week you are in for a real treat. Moo sits down with New York Times Best Selling author, Tiffany Crum. Over spring break Moo read Tiffany's debut novel This Story Might Save Your Life. In addition to loving the book, Moo also loved the acknowledgements. Tiffany explains that she had the dream of writing a novel 18 years ago when her son was born. Too often we see the success of the bestseller, but we don’t ask about what it looked like to pursue a dream for 18 years. In this interview, Moo and Tiffany talk about what it takes to set a goal and stay with it for nearly two decades. Tiffany talks about the dream, the real life realities, the rejection (oh the rejection) and what it feels like to hold her book in her hands. You don’t want to miss this.

Letting Pilates Speak for Itself
Greetings listeners. For a long time, Moo and I have wondered about Pilates. But recently, something happened. We kept seeing articles and posts on social media that seemed to spark a Pilates controversy. Articles asked questions like who is it for really? Does it exclude a certain body type? But what was more interesting than these articles themselves, as we both quickly noticed, were the comments. No matter what the article said, people in the comments were overwhelmingly positive about their Pilates experience. Moo, the Pilates outsider that she is, wanted to know more. What is happening in these studios that so many people are not only enjoying, but willing to continuously defend on social media? On this episode, Moo interviews Rikki Heiken, owner of Sweat Studio in Miami, Florida. Rikki has been in the fitness industry for over 20 years. In addition to reformer classes and a Pilates teacher training program, Sweat Studio also offers its own strategically designed fitness method. Rikki answers Moo’s curious questions about Pilates, Pilates-inspired fitness and why strong is for everyone.

How to Think Less
Do you constantly feel like your brain is a cluttered mess of thoughts? Do you ever walk into a room to get something while also looking at Team Snap to see what the latest message is about only to realize you totally forgot what you’re looking for? Do you find yourself scrolling through social media just so you can quiet the nagging reminders and the simultaneous realization that you’ll never get everything done? If so, this episode is for you. Moo recently had four days to herself in her own house and she loved how the countertop of her brain finally got cleared off. But how can we do that more regularly? Moo and share stories of how we have succeeded and failed at getting our brains to do less. Thanks for listening!

When Goals Take Decades
In this episode Moo and I discuss goal-setting in your 40s. Moo recently read a book and in the acknowledgements the author discussed how the dream of writing a novel took 18 years. 18 years?! We are all old enough to know that real goals take time, like decades! So yes, live your best life, but also, we are wise enough to realize the logistics of chasing our dreams are actually really complicated. So what do we do with that? Moo and I explore the nuanced realities of setting and pursuing long-term goals in your 40s and it involves the importance of process, personal values, and private victories over social media validation.

When Stress Sabotages Your Success
Hey hey, fit listeners. Welcome back to another week of the pod. In this episode, Moo and I explore the complex relationship between stress and emotional eating. I share a personal story involving Trader Joe’s Ketchup chips while Moo shares scientific insights and practical strategies to manage binge eating and stress responses effectively. Before you go rolling your eyes, just know that sometimes the strategy is to actually eat the chips, but also know that the chips do not control you. Say it with me, the chips do not control us! Happy Monday. Let’s do this!

Let's Talk Lentils!
Greetings listeners! I recently discovered a plant-based cookbook with really great pictures that taught me how delicious cooking with vegetables could be. Now, I know a lot of you are thinking, oh good for you Natalie, but I don’t have time to chop vegetables with my busy schedule. Well, this may sound crazy, but this plant-based journey actually made my life easier. How, you ask? Well, listen along as Moo and I discuss lentils and other plant-based ponderings. Are we newly vegan? Suddenly vegetarian? No, we’re just two curious cooks who love good food! Get curious with us!

Working Out for the Right Reasons
Listeners, let us engage in a thought experiment. What would happen if we imagined that exercise was not associated with body transformation? Then, why would we exercise? In other words, what happens when we think about the why beyond what we look like. In this episode Moo explores the benefits of getting away from body goals and instead exploring the soulful reasons why we might keep moving. Working out is sometimes not that much fun, I am the first to admit this. So what happens when we go to the gym with reasons that don’t revolve around changing how we look? Moo argues that we might end up keeping the habit longer than we think. Woohoo! Have a great week and thanks for listening!

Nat and the Outfit Overhaul
Listeners, you are in for a treat. In this episode, I tell the tale of my wardrobe makeover. You heard that right, wardrobe makeover. First I have to tell you the history of me being a terrible dresser and the embarrassing moments where I was called out on two separate occasions by my superiors for not being dressed appropriately. Did that stop me from buying all the wrong clothes for decades? No, shockingly, it did not. But things have changed. I am a new woman in heels-- some days at least. Clothes matter to me now more than ever. A statement I never thought I would make. But hey, getting older sometimes means getting better at things. And I am here to get better at getting dressed. Thanks for listening!

The Role of Rest
Greetings listeners! On today’s episode Moo and I discuss rest. What is rest again? I’m not quite sure, but I know I’m not getting enough and I need more. Moo shares how annoying she finds rest and yet how necessary it has become. I talk about a recent LifeKit episode that explores seven kinds of rest! 7 kinds! We get into our own relationships to rest (especially at this age... in bed by nine anyone?), what kinds sound most helpful and how we can make small, real changes in our own lives to help us rejuvenate. My face is aging exponentially if I don’t get some rest. See below for the LifeKit episode link. It's a great episode. And thanks for listening! 7 Kinds of Rest (other than sleep) from NPR's LifeKit

Q and A with the FitSister
Hi guys! This week on the FitSister Podcast, we go old school and I bring Moo a list of questions. We talk workouts, food, hydration, supplements, good books and more. Join in for the fun!

More Myths, Half Truths and Confusing Advice
Here on the FitSister Podcast we have not really embraced the world of body-driven New Year's resolutions, but we have seen gym goals emerge as a topic on social media and other outlets. Earlier this week I heard two ideas in the health and fitness space that I wanted to take up with my fit sister. We also get into the pros and cons of going to classes instead of standing looking at the free weights and treadmills and wondering what in the world to do. If you are moving or exercising regularly and it’s 11 degrees outside, you are winning. You are the champion of the world. Much love to all! Thanks for listening!

The Roads Are Bad And So Is Everything Else
If you live in the Midwest, winter is a beast. Like a house guest that stays way too long, she has moved in, taken over every inch of my life and makes all daily tasks more challenging. I start this conversation with Moo listing a lot of legitimate reasons why I am less active and how I do not want her Miami, Florida insights on how to cope with winter. But Moo gently and expertly gets me to the place where I can find solutions to keep moving and build in some boundaries so that I don’t completely give up on health and fitness this winter, which, to be clear, I am very tempted to do. Can you blame me? The weather is brutal. It is screaming at me to stay inside, stay in my pajamas, snuggle down, make another cream-heavy coffee, eat cookies and stay in bed until spring. But I know this is not the path and Moo helps me find a new one. Stay warm out there, people!

Hope and Humor: An Interview with Author John Kenney
Listeners! Welcome back for a special guest episode with author John Kenney. John is the author of I See You’ve Called in Dead, a novel about a middle-aged man who is forced to redefine his identity after a very public (and very funny) self-sabotage experience at work. Moo and I both read the book and loved the themes of redefining self in midlife, specifically in the midst of loss and change. What do we do when things don’t go our way, when we question our life choices and when we are not sure how to find a way out. I See You’ve Called in Dead seeks to explore those questions while also making the reader laugh along the way. In this episode, John discusses male friendship in middle age, the life events that inspired the book, and of course, why humor is essential in the face of grief and suffering. Life is hard! But good books make it better. John, thanks for joining us! Readers and listeners, thanks for being part of our first unofficial FitSister Book Club meeting. Enjoy!

What To Do When It's Gray All Day
The time of year has arrived when the sky is the same color as the faded snow and we look at our weather app only to realize that it’s not going to be sunny until next Thursday. At least if you live in the midwest. For Moo in Miami, winter means darkness at 5PM, which can still be a challenge. Regardless of where you live, we are all fighting the urge to put on our pajamas at 4:30 and go to bed. In this episode Moo and I talk about our best ways to combat the winter blues. It’s a long gray season everybody, so we all need some strategies! Thank you for listening! Also, if you have a great strategy for beating the winter blues, please report to Moo on social media at FitSisterOfficial. Have a great week!

Tiny Resolutions
Happy New Year! As we all know, the start of January brings with it the idea of resolutions and revisions. And honestly, I am ready for some change. I have been on a diet of mostly coffee and sugar cookies and I am ready for regular gym visits, more water and seasonal vegetables. But instead of making big promises that I know I can’t keep, Moo and I are making tiny resolutions. What are the smallest changes we can make that will move us forward? What is the small habit that we know we can fix but we just haven’t yet. Moo and I share our three tiny resolutions and we invite you to think of your own. Thanks for being with us as we begin the new year!

Real Goals in Real Life
Have you ever set a goal and then reached it and then realized that balloons did not drop from the ceiling and there were no confetti canons like you imagined? I set a goal at the beginning of the school year to establish a consistent gym routine. Moo and I discuss how I am doing and how managing expectations around goals is necessary and kind of annoying. We all know we could achieve more, but there’s that small problem that we have very real restrictions on our time and money. Real goals and real life can be unglamorous even when we achieve them. We end with a philosophical discussion about daily miracles. Thanks for listening and happy holidays! We will be off next week, but get ready to dive into the new year with FitSister!

The Great Self-Help Debate
Guys, no one is more of an expert at self-help than me. I have read all of the books, listened to all of the podcasts. I am the eternal student of self-optimization. Oh, but wait, did I mention, I’ve never really changed all that much in my self-help adventures. I still have a drawer full of single socks with no match among other issues that annoy me and most likely the people I love. In this episode, Moo and I talk about self help-- does it work or is the illusion of a solution? Does anything work? I think therapy works. Go now, everyone. And Moo loves a good life coach. We disagree on this! Hit us up on social media to give us your take.

Mastering Mindset: How to Tame Your Talkative Brain
Have you ever felt like your brain is a flood of negativity and anxiety? Have you ever wondered how to get your brain to empower you instead of being your biggest critic? In this episode, Moo interviews her friend and former life coach Muneer Al-Busaidi about the power of our thoughts on why it is important to talk to ourselves the right way. They discuss how to control thoughts, the power of self-talk, creating positive identities, visualizing success, and the impact of gratitude. Muneer shares practical techniques for overcoming limiting beliefs and emphasizes the significance of asking empowering questions to foster growth and self-awareness.Here is a link to Muneer’s YouTube page if you’re interested in more information!

Rites of Passage... For Grown-Ups?
Rites of Passage play an important role in our youth. As we grow our parents, communities and religions signal our movement from one phase into another. But what happens in adulthood? We change throughout our lives, but gone are the ceremonies, events or experiences. Sometimes it feels like we could use something to signal our movement as we shed certain skin and take on new roles. In this episode, Moo and I discuss the role of rites of passage in adulthood. Why might it be important and what might it look like? From JLo to journaling in she-sheds, we cover it all. Tune in for our spiritual sit-down on what to do with midlife milestones.

Friendship Over 40
Friendship is a simple concept with huge benefits, but it is often overlooked in the chaos and business of modern life. In this episode, I recap my recent trip to Florida where I met Moo’s friends. Moo shares her insights on the importance of friendship in our forties, especially when family lives so far away. But Moo’s mantra is: “there is no friends and family, there is just family.” The people she has spent all these years with, the women she has raised her kids alongside, the friends who have stepped in for help with carpools, sports and big events-- these people are her family too. We end today’s episode with a call to action: instead of spending the holidays worrying about the extra calories, let’s spend the holidays filling our cup with the friends in our lives who mean the most.

When Opportunity Knocks After 40
Listeners, welcome back to a special episode of The FitSister Podcast. On today's episode, Moo interviews her longtime best friend Ashley Litwin Diego about her recent decision to run for State Representative for the state of Florida. Ashley is a mom of three and a cancer survivor who, now in her 40s, has decided to enter the political realm. What happens when a mom decides to listen to her lifelong ambitions? How did she know it was time for something new? And of course, what about the kids? Ashley and Moo talk about Ashley’s mindset around work, family, career goals and how she plans to take care of herself along the way. After I listened to this episode, my big takeaway was that age doesn’t limit us; it only brings us more possibilities. Enjoy this interview with Ashley Litwin Diego. Is Social Media Hijacking Your Brain?
Friends and listeners, welcome back. In this episode I confess the bizarre ways social media has hijacked my brain and why I decided to make major changes to my social media diet. Moo and I cover the ways in which social media distracts us from what really matters and turns us into binary thinkers. Life is complicated and nuanced and social media insists on making it two-dimensional and over-simplistic. We end with why social media and influencer culture is particularly harmful in our over-40 phase of life. Listen along and join the conversation on Instagram, or don’t! We love you and thanks for listening.

When the Amazon Purchase Doesn't Change Your Life
In this episode, I candidly talk about an Amazon purchase that I thought would be a gamechanger. Let me guess, you already know how the story ends. It changed absolutely nothing. Moo and I discuss how overspending is not only wasting our money, but it is preventing us from finding real solutions to our actual problems. Join us on a journey as we unpack why so many of us believe we are one purchase away from our ideal selves. Less is more, but more is so easy! Thanks for listening!

Is Overscheduling Ruining Your Health?
Friends! Welcome back. This week on FitSister Moo and I talk about the issue that all of us face-- the attack of overscheduling. Ironically, Moo and I are both simple people who would like to lead simple lives, but the world we live in has made this exceptionally challenging. Moo shares her tales of a travel baseball mom and how she has recently left the world of travel sports. How much is too much for a family? How do the hopes and dreams of moms and parents fit in with a busy schedule? These are complicated questions and we personally feel like social media isn’t helping us get any closer to the answers. What are the questions we can ask of ourselves and our partner to help us figure out what to do when life gets busy. Join us as we think critically about the issue that matters most-- how we spend our time. Thanks for listening and we hope you have a great week!

A Simple Solution to the "What's for Dinner" Dilemma
Friends. Family. Distinguished listeners. I did it. I solved the dinner dilemma. I truly would never intend to oversell a podcast episode and I am morally against using clickbait to gain followers. But I did it. This is not a brag; it’s just the truth. In this episode I tell Moo about my new strategy, which I am calling the Repeat Meal Schedule. And, in typical Nat fashion, this episode is not just about dinner. It is about rejecting the myths and lies surrounding what it means to be successful in the role of parent and provider. Because we’ve been lied to, people. And I am here to tell you that I have simplified my life around the topic of dinner and as a result, I got part of my brain back. Join me as we make our lives easier by rejecting so many of the silly ideas we’ve been sold. Thanks for listening and bon appetit.

When You Forget How to Have Fun
Hey hey! Welcome back to The FitSister Podcast, people! In this episode Moo and I explore the theme of having fun in your 40s, which already sounds like an oxymoron. (I can see my teenager rolling his eyes already. I’m fun, right? Right?!) Let’s just say, having fun is more complicated than it used to be. We talk about the importance of non-performative activities, setting personal goals for joy, and creating meaningful experiences that align with our interests. Now that we’ve pivoted, I can finally nerd-out on the podcast. In this episode, I reference a Art of Manliness episode where Brett McKay interviews Kevin Hood Gray about his book, Why Boredom Matters. It’s a great episode! We love you all, listeners, and we wish you a great week as we all return to the grind!

Reframing Negative Self-Talk (special guest episode)
Listeners, you are in for a treat. In episode 51, Moo hosts her first guest and guess what, it’s another sister. Haley might be our little sister, but she is definitely the wisest sibling in the family. Haley is a licensed therapist and after a career in school social work, she started working in private practice. In this episode Moo and Haley delve into the pervasive issue of negative self-talk. They explore its definitions, sources, and the patterns that contribute to it, particularly in the context of midlife challenges. Haley emphasizes the importance of recognizing and reframing negative thoughts, understanding the roots of these feelings, and developing practical strategies to combat them. She encourages us to celebrate small wins and seek support when needed. Don’t let your negative self-talk define your experiences. Thanks for listening!

Strength Training and Snack Strategies

Then, we chat about snacks-- one of my favorite topics-- and discuss how to get the most out of our mid-day meals. Over 40 Injuries and Insecurities
Hey there listeners, Nat here reporting from the front lines of trying to workout while also working a job and being a mom. Just like you, I’ve had some wins and losses. My 5:30 AM workout routine is working (currently), major win! But in other news, I pulled a calf muscle going down stairs, major loss. Moo and I discuss this over-40 trend of seeing success and then being sidelined as a result of an injury from an extremely basic everyday activity. Then, we get into an interesting social media post that had Moo thinking. And finally we discuss why a celebrity’s weight loss journey is sending some of us into a tailspin.

Whose responsibility is it to make America healthy?
This week on our third episode of the summer series, we tackle family nutrition. Whose job is it to make your family healthy? Is it only one person's job? That person, mom or dad, is probably feeling a lot of stress. So much stress they’ve even had a meltdown when someone at the table announced they could not eat their dinner because there was a light dusting of parmesan cheese on it. Just me? Either way, buckle up for an episode that we thought would be short, but ended up being long because there is a lot to talk about on this topic! We discuss a Self Magazine article entitled “How the MAHA Movement Threatens to Set Women Back Decades,” the MAHA report itself, and strategies for how to balance the responsibility of feeding a family.

Veggie Wins and Losses and Gabby Reece is the Real Deal
Listeners! Welcome to Episode 37. First and foremost, we check in regarding my vegetable goals and there are indeed some wins and losses. Let’s be real, this isn’t easy. Then we transition into a conversation about Gabby Reece and her recent interview on the podcast Ageist. As a 55 year old woman, Reece’s interview got us thinking about the importance of authenticity as we age. That’s kind of tricky when the world is telling us the opposite. It is so refreshing to see women over 40 in the public space having honest conversations about the phases of life that are ahead of us. What do I mean by normal person? Well, unlike my sister, I need some help with the whole foods. More specifically, I have recently realized I need more fruits and veggies in my daily life. GLP-1s and How Skinny Culture Never Went Away
Welcome back, listeners! We begin today’s episode with a Nat-life-update. In our last episode I talked about changing my fitness routine to focus more on daily movement and short weight-lifting sessions instead of a dedicated “workout. ” In this episode I tell Moo how it's all going. Then, we move to a listener email about GLP-1s. First, I discuss how I love food, how I have always loved food and it is nice to hear how much other people think about food as much as I do. Then, Moo gets into food relationships and the role of GLP-1 medications in weight management. Finally, we end with the return of skinny culture (but did it ever officially leave?) and how it’s all about understanding our own health and wellness journeys and trying our very best to block out these ridiculous body standards. Thanks for listening!

Special Episode! FitSister Is in the Studio!
Welcome to this special episode of The FitSister Podcast! Moo was in for the weekend so did all the things a podcasting sister duo could do together. 1. Coffee. 2. Blow outs. 3. Make-up. 4. A recording session in an official podcasting studio. JOIN US for our first in-studio recording. We debrief on our make-up sessions (I tried fake lashes for the first time) and then we dive into a question that both Nat and a listener have-- how can we increase daily movement if our days consist of sitting at work, sitting at practices and driving to work and practice?

Buyer Beware: A Healthy Skeptic's Guide to the Menopause Industry
We begin this week’s episode with a tale from Planet Fitness. A man spoke to me at the gym (!), and I had to tell Moo all about my first interaction with a real-life gym bro. Then, we discuss the ridiculous and the real in the ever-growing world that is now called “the menopause market.” Moo recently attended a women’s health summit in Miami and is armed and excited with some new information. And of course, we end with Moo reminding us about the value of, you guessed it, strength training. As usual, thank you for listening! If you enjoy our weekly show, please share it with a friend. Don’t forget to subscribe to Moo’s newsletter. And, if you’re interested in her group coaching program, you can sign up here. Have a great week everyone! Hopefully the sunshine is finding its way to your part of the world.

The 5 Traits of Clients Who See Meaningful Change
Before I started really listening to my sister (which took a while), I assumed that a client who saw real change was a person who could count calories, had all the time in the world to go to the gym, and had iron-clad willpower. As it turns out, none of those qualities are actually the traits of a person who experiences meaningful change when it comes to health and fitness. In this episode Moo takes us through the five traits of a highly successful client. Thank you for listening! If you’re enjoying the podcasting, don’t forget to sign up for Moo’s newsletter! ABOUT THIS SHOW
Natalie, a mom with no free time, has always called her sister Sarah, a buff certified nutrition coach, for help with fitness and nutrition. Now they're turning their conversations into an official podcast. Consider this your anti-influencer space that breaks down the truth behind the trends and helps you (and Natalie) make changes that actually work.
