Love That Remains: A Mother’s Legacy Through Generations

Love grows stronger with every generation it touches. In this special episode of The GuideLight, I honor three women who shaped my life and leadership: my mom, mother-in-law, and wife. Their lives show what love that carries forward through people. I share how a single mom’s sacrifice built a foundation of grace that still shapes me today. I reflect on a mother-in-law whose welcoming spirit and steady encouragement expanded how I see life and possibility. I open up about my wife’s selfless, faithful love. It challenged, refined, and taught me what it truly means to lead, serve, and love well. This episode is about understanding legacy, influence, and the quiet power of faith lived out daily. The small, consistent acts of love are what shape families, strengthen leaders, and build something that outlasts us.If you’re building a life, a family, or a message that you want to carry beyond you, this conversation will remind you what truly matters.Take a moment, tune in, and reflect on the women who shaped your story. What Is Enough? Rethinking Wealth, Faith, and Generosity

Most Christ-following business owners say God owns it all. But when the wire transfer clears after a business sale, that's where belief meets the wheelbarrow. In this episode, Jay Mink, Director of Outreach at National Christian Foundation, Carolinas, walks alongside some of the most generous people in the country and sees exactly what happens when faith gets that real.Jay breaks down the difference between a standard of living and a standard of giving, explains why the depth of our generosity is tied directly to its object, and points to finishlinepledge.com, a tool that helps you set a real financial finish line with God. I also share a story from my own farm that stopped me cold: a man with almost nothing who gave nearly everything away, and why it convicted me more than any sermon.Tune in to this episode of The Guidelight, grab a notebook, and let God into that conversation. It might be the most important financial decision you make this year.Jay Mink is the Director of Outreach at National Christian Foundation, Carolinas, where he helps business owners and families align their financial decisions with lasting impact. The Power of Being the One

God’s best work happens the moment we lay our agenda down. In this episode, at the Lead Loud Conference, speaker Karl Sherrill challenged the room with a simple but weighty idea which is, “Be the one.” Show up for people, even when it’s inconvenient. That message was still ringing in my ears when I spotted a young man named Alex sitting alone by the window and I made the decision to walk over.Alex’s story hit me harder than anything from the stage that day. A military veteran, covered in concrete and ready to quit his job, bumped into a stranger who chose to laugh with him instead of walking past him. That stranger became his business partner. Their company now spans multiple states. Ezekiel 22:30 says, “God searched for someone to stand in the gap and found no one.” That verse is not history. It’s a daily invitation to each one of us.Tune in to this episode of The GuideLight and let it remind you that surrendering even one moment of your agenda can change someone’s entire world including your own.Jason Trent is the president of Highstreet Guidelight Insurance, founder of Guidelight Legacy Advisors, and host of The Guidelight Podcast. Top 5 Reasons Business Owners Can't Exit

Most businesses don’t sell not because there are no buyers, but because the business wasn’t built to be sold. In this episode, I walk through the five reasons most exits fail: poor preparation, unrealistic valuation, owner dependence, bad timing, and external market conditions. Each one is avoidable but only if you start working on them well before you’re ready to sell. The business that attracts serious buyers is one with clean books, documented processes, a leadership team that doesn’t need the founder in the room, and a track record that speaks for itself. As Proverbs 24:27 reminds us, you prepare the field before you build the house. The same wisdom applies here.If you’ve built something worth keeping, it’s worth protecting all the way to a clean exit. What Buyers Look For in Founder Led Companies

Strong businesses are built to last, scale, and carry forward the vision. In this episode, I share what serious buyers look for in founder-led companies and how to build something that continues to thrive long after you step away.  It starts with predictability, clean financials, disciplined decisions, and systems that remove guesswork. But the real test goes deeper: leadership depth and culture continuity. Can your team carry the mission without you, or does everything still depend on you?I also talk about due diligence which is the moment where every gap shows. Preparation protects your value, deal, and peace. If you’re thinking about M&A, succession, or long-term legacy, this will challenge how you lead today. Watch this episode of The GuideLight and make sure your business is transferable.Jason Trent is the president of Highstreet Guidelight Insurance, founder of Guidelight Legacy Advisors, and host of The Guidelight Podcast. Preparing Your Heart For Transition: Your Business Is NOT Your Identity

Your title is not your identity. Neither is your business. In this episode, I get into something that doesn't get talked about enough in the exit planning conversation: the heart behind the decision. Before the strategy, the valuation, and the deal terms, there's a person. And if that person hasn't done the inner work, no amount of preparation on paper will make a transition feel right. So what does it actually look like to prepare your heart for a business transition? I walk through the things I've seen trip people up, and the anchors that keep you steady when everything around you is changing. Have you built your identity around a role? Are you holding on so tightly (like a monkey with its fist in a fruit jug) that you can't receive what's next? Are you making decisions from wisdom and discernment, or from a need to be admired and accepted? And when the time comes to let go, will you be able to trust God for what's on the other side?Catch this episode of The Guidelight and begin nurturing your heart along with your business for the journey ahead.Enjoy the podcast? When Leaders Miss the Mark: How to Realign, Refocus & Lead Better

Great leaders don’t get it right every time. They get better over time. In this episode, I explore how moments of misalignment can become powerful turning points, and why real leadership growth starts with refocusing your aim, not carrying shame.I reflect on the true meaning of “missing the mark,” a phrase rooted in the language of archery. Most leaders don’t wake up trying to make poor decisions. We lead with good intentions, but distraction, pressure, and misplaced focus can pull our aim off center. When that happens, the solution is to refocus on the target. I share lessons drawn from leadership, faith, and even the trail why looking at what you want to avoid often leads you straight into it. Strong leaders learn to set their eyes on what matters most: purpose, identity, truth, wisdom, culture, and stewardship. These anchors help leaders adjust their aim and move forward with clarity.Learn how realigning your focus can help you lead with clarity, conviction, and renewed purpose. Change Is Easy, Transitions Are Hard: How Leaders Navigate Business & Life Transitions

Transitions take time and that’s where leadership is tested. In this episode, I reflect openly on why navigating transition requires awareness, patience, and a willingness to lead people, not just processes.I share why change may look simple on the surface, but transitions affect identity, purpose, and trust beneath the surface. Drawing from proven transition frameworks and real leadership experience, I explain why resistance often uncertainty asking for clarity. The three phases every transition moves through are endings, neutral zone, and new beginnings. I talk about why leaders must name what’s ending, create safety in the in‑between, and reinforce meaning before expecting momentum. Transitions succeed when leaders communicate clearly, anchor people to purpose, and model steady faith through uncertainty. If you’re leading a team or growing a brand, watch this episode of The Guidelight to learn how thoughtful leadership can turn difficult transitions.Enjoy this episode? God's Will to Sell: How And When

One of the biggest questions I hear from faith-driven business owners is simple but heavy: “Is it God’s will for me to sell?” In this episode, I speak candidly about the truth behind that question and why the real issue is your heart, timing, and willingness to listen to God’s guidance.I walk through the three main paths of transition, selling outright, transferring to your team, or passing it down through family, and why each one requires spiritual clarity, not just strategy. Selling a business is a moment of stewardship.I also share the story of how God shifted my own assignment in 2020. Selling wasn’t in my plan but God made it clear that the mission was bigger than my comfort. When you keep your heart open, God often reveals that the “when” is very different from your expectations.Let’s talk about how to recognize when God is leading you into your next chapter. What’s Truly On Your Heart? A Birthday Wish With Purpose

The most powerful moments with God come when we stop asking for what we want and start listening to what’s already in our hearts. In this episode, I open up about a deeply personal experience, a birthday prayer that turned into a life-changing reminder of what truly matters. While driving home on my birthday, I asked God for a simple wish. At first, I wanted a special word or a deeper sense of His presence. But in that quiet time of prayer, He reminded me that I already have both, His Word and His presence are always with me.  My true wish wasn’t about me at all. It was for God to be magnified and glorified through my life. For His light to shine through me and others, so that more people might come to know Him. If you’ve ever found yourself searching for purpose or wondering what to ask God for next, this episode will speak to you. Authentic Leadership: Why It Matters More Than Ever

True leadership starts from the heart, not the spotlight. In this episode, I step away from the usual polish to talk about something deeper: authenticity.Authenticity begins with God. Before we can lead others, we must be real with Him laying down our burdens and trusting His plan. When I handed Him my worries about family, work, and faith, peace followed.  At home and in leadership, authenticity means presence. It’s choosing to listen, pause, and connect when life feels crowded. It’s showing up as someone willing to care.In our teams and ministries, authenticity is leading with transparency and hope. It’s reminding people that even in hard seasons, God’s promises never waver. The Psalms show us that honesty with God always brings us back to hope. Tune in now and let’s lead with authenticity that transforms hearts and strengthens faith.Jason Trent is the president of Highstreet Guidelight Insurance, founder of Guidelight Legacy Advisors, and host of The Guidelight Podcast.
