In this episode, I dive into an amazing conversation with Marc Tomlinson. Marc is currently the Director of Business Relationship Management at AIMCo. He oversees procurement, supplier relationship management, market data, and AIMCo's global office network leasing. With over 25 years in procurement and contract management, Marc's unique experiences have shaped his strategic perspective and continually pushed him to implement new thinking to solve complex and challenging problems. He is passionate about serving differently. As a builder, he enjoys creating new processes, models, and systems to positively impact the end user. Marc has worked at every level of government and, for ten years, led a Canadian charity dedicated to improving the lives of those with limb loss. Dedicated to supplier diversity and social procurement as an enabler, Marc is part of AIMCo's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council, fostering new relationships with disadvantaged businesses. Marc is also credited with creating the first e-commerce application for the NATO Alliance in 1999, which is still in service today. He designed the procurement module for an integrated application that allowed 48 Armed Forces from 21 nations to redistribute military parts and components amongst themselves - think eBay for NATO. When buyers could not be matched with sellers, Marc created NATO-wide contracts that the Armed Forces could order against - a process that took 60 seconds. He created a new business model for NATO's largest agency and changed procurement laws in five countries. Over the past two years, Marc has traveled extensively to establish AIMCo's new global network, which includes offices in Calgary, Singapore, Luxembourg, and New York and expansions in Toronto and London. He secures and negotiates the office space, creating and designing each space to reflect the office's unique needs. The legal tech world is ruthlessly competitive and with Amir’s guidance and industry knowledge, Dealcloser built the leading tech platform of its kind in the industry, beating out significantly larger and better funded competitors. Amir led Dealcloser through its early stage growth and capital raises. Amir left Dealcloser at the end of 2023.  Amir recently joined Fairly Staffing as co-CEO. 28 | Embracing Discomfort & Running Your Own Race in Life

In this episode of The Inflection Point, I dive into an amazing conversation with Gabrielle Foss. Throughout her life and career, Gabi has felt most alive around people that are curious, adventurous, entrepreneurial, and empathetic. In 2019 she was selected to join The Cansbridge Fellowship, a community of young leaders with exactly these qualities, and is now fortunate to be spending her time growing the organization as its current Executive Director.  Gabi studied Health and Business at Western and Ivey, where she was far more interested in topics like sustainability and psychological safety than finance. Immediately after graduating, she completed her Cansbridge summer in the forests of Laos as a Sustainability Intern at a timber plantation. She then dove into the Canadian startup scene at the Upside Foundation, and worked in corporate Sustainability and Reconciliation consulting at Deloitte and an Indigenous-owned strategy firm.  She is so excited to live in the Cansbridge world full time, and consider questions like “what is the secret sauce” to organizational stickiness, how do we decentralize community engagement, and how do we nurture a shared mindset in all our programming. In her spare time, she does scary outdoor activities in the Pacific Northwest, and sings loudly with her friends. Alaska by Kaya Nite is her favorite song and tops her charts right now. 6 | Fostering Innovation at UAlberta

In this episode of The Inflection Point, I dive into a heartwarming conversation with my lovely friend Victoria Hryniw. Victoria is going into her final semester of her Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Alberta with a major in Strategy, Entrepreneurship and Innovation (SEM) and minor in Operations Management (OM). Victoria was first exposed to entrepreneurship after joining Enactus, a club that promotes entrepreneurship on campus which prompted her to explore various entrepreneurial opportunities. Last year, Victoria spent the summer in Calgary working for Neo Financial, a Canadian Fintech startup where she had hands-on experience  working in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment. Currently, she is working as a NetSuite Consulting Intern with RSM Canada and leveraging her technical skills to best serve clients. Victoria will be finishing her final semester abroad in Vienna, the capital of Austria, where she is excited to learn how business practices vary across the world, as well as explore many different countries while she is abroad. She is also an avid hiker and is actively involved in the Ukrainian community here in Edmonton. Victoria is still on the hunt for the best poke bowl in the city, but she has not yet found one that beats SUBs (UofA campus) very own Hula Poke, specifically the Tiki bowl. Hit the play button and learn more about Victoria's experiences as a student leader and a the founder of a small business that she started during the onset of the pandemic. 5 | Investment Banking & the World of Finance

In this episode of The Inflection Point, I dive into an enthralling conversation with Liam Kenney. Liam is in his 7th year of post-secondary education after completing a Bachelor of Nursing at Memorial University in Newfoundland before making the switch to finance. He is currently a part of Saint Mary University investment club called the IMPACT Fund as a Fund manager where they actively manage a portfolio valued at over $700,000. I remember meeting this athletic guy with a good built, taller than 6 feet, with a gentle smile, just hanging around with some student interns on a Friday evening. I met him Liam the first time that night when all the interns had planned to grab a drink. After gentling introducing ourselves, we dived into our passion finance and our ambitions of breaking into Investment Banking. 4 | Starting a Business at Seventeen

In this episode of The Inflection Point, I dive into an amazing conversation with Maya Bezubiak, who is the Co-Founder of ELVTE Apparel, a local clothing brand born in the heart of Alberta, here in Edmonton. Just mere two days before her surgery, with over seven reconstructions in her right knee, she decided to make a pivot and look at the positives of the situation. Hence, ELVTE Apparel was born on May 16, 2022. Ever since, things have only gotten better. Maya not only founded a clothing brand but also made quite an impression in her very first year at the Alberta School of Business while making impeccable contributions to the Alberta International Business Competition and the Alberta JDC West. 3 | Overcoming Our Fears from 10,000 Feet!

In this episode of The Inflection Point, I dive into a fearless conversation with my friend Ben Sherback. I met Ben for the first time at the Alberta International Business Competition in Jasper, back in November 2022. An innocent guy with a gentle smile that displayed a subtle confidence to go out there in the world and take on any challenge, I was impressed, and glad, by Ben's amazing contributions to the week long AIBC competition in Jasper. A few months forward, we are now part of another student club at the Alberta School of Business where we just took a leap of faith from 10,000 feet above the ground to fundraise for a charity that helps women establish a life free of addiction. Hit that play button and dive into our conversation on how to overcome your fears! You can check us out at https://www.the-inflection-point.com/.
