S7/E20: How does PERMISSION impact how we show up in community

Monthly Topic: PERMISSIONToday we discuss 4 ways to give you permission to engage in your community in a healthy way. Our impacts are persistent and strong. We sometimes aren’t even aware of the ripple effect our words and behaviors have on our communities. Bandura’s Social Learning Theory shows how our behavioral modeling reinforces our community identity, de-escalates tension, and builds trust. We have permission to 1. Practice micro-gratitude; 2 & 3. Ask curious questions & prompts; and 4. Name your values and model them.

  2. 293

S7/E19: How does PERMISSION impact how we show up in close relationships?

Monthly Topic: PERMISSION This episode is for the ladies. Or, anyone who knows a lady! You see, women tend to withhold permission for themselves in five general areas: 1) to ask for what we need/want; 2) to hold boundaries in our close relationships; 3) change; 4) asking for help/space; and 5) to NOT identify as the caretaker in the relationship. Whew, these were some tough practices to discuss today, and to give ourselves permission to consider to NOT continue!

  3. 292

S7/E18: How does PERMISSION impact how we show up in faith?

Monthly Topic: PERMISSION We have Free Will. This means we have permission to choose: a life with God, or a life without God. Even if you choose a life with God, you will wrestle with all the rest of your choices … to allow God to be the leader of your life, or not. The Psalms especially are a detailed reflection of crying out to God - in victory, battle, fear, pain, love, defeat, joy, and … you name it! The Bible says Jesus stands at the door and knocks - and we choose to give permission to the God of the universe to enter our lives or not. Love cannot and will not be forced.

  4. 291

S7/E17: How does PERMISSION impact how we show up in the world?

Monthly Topic: PERMISSION In today’s episode, Jackie and Stacey identify and explore the originations of several social “schemas” we have adopted throughout our lives. These are societal or internal unwritten “rules” that we have been taught or learned along the way. We look at these so we can intentionally give ourselves PERMISSION to decide whether these rules still serve us, or PERMISSION to unlearn them!

  5. 290

S7/E16: How does LEGACY impact how we show up in community?

Monthly Topic: LEGACYOur communities are our neighborhoods, social groups, sports engagements, schools, workplaces, and common interest groups. We ask ourselves, “how does THIS (action /thought / behavior/ etc) contribute to my legacy?” We use this question to help mold how we make decisions now. In today’s episode we call out dozens of our community members, and the legacies we see them building by showing up and making small contributions that consistently build lasting impact. Thank you. We see you, we love you!

  6. 289

S7/E15: How does LEGACY impact how we show up in close relationships?

Monthly Topic: LEGACYJoin us as we continue to discuss how we are currently building our individual legacies: what we will eventually leave behind. Today, we focus on this relationships that have impacted each of us deeply. Mentors are close relationships that have helped us identify and develop our legacy value systems, and how to maintain congruence.

  7. 288

S7/E14: How does LEGACY impact how we show up in faith?

Monthly Topic: LEGACYWhile you may leave a LEGACY behind when you go, you are building your LEGACY now. What are we doing on the daily to build our legacy of faith? Be sure, our recollection of experiences is often times different from those who experience memories right along side us. But if we can look for Christ in people and reflect back to them that encouraging truth, then THAT is how we can build our faith legacy.

  8. 287

S7/E13: How does LEGACY impact how we show up in the world?

Monthly Topic: LEGACYWelcome to a new month and a new topic! Legacy = what we leave behind. Compare traditional notions of legacy with more modern notions. For example, it’s not like the money we leave behind, but the daily intentional values we build upon. What do you want people to remember about how you showed up in the world?

  9. 286

S7/E12: How does MARGIN impact how we show up in community?

Monthly Topic: MARGINThanks for joining us today as we wrap up our month long discussion on Margin. Follow along with us as we determine if we are overwhelming our bandwidth in our communities, or if we have the margin to participate in areas in which we are compelled. Alongside us, ask yourself what breaks your heart? Then do something about it. Join us?

  10. 285

S7/E11: How does MARGIN impact how we show up in close relationships?

Monthly Topic: MARGINSooo many great questions to mull over in today’s episode! Join us and consider YOUR answers!

  11. 284
  12. 283

S7/E9: How does MARGIN impact how we show up in the world?

Monthly Topic: MARGINMargin is the space between doing all the things that you have to and want to do in life. In design, it’s called the “white space” where the eye can rest so it will be drawn to the filled space. Join us as we learn how to make space in our lives, and how it is not a luxury, but a necessity to leading a healthy and intentional life.

  13. 282

S7/E8: How does IDENTITY impact how we show up in our communities?

Monthly Topic: IDENTITY During today’s episode - find out how we are our own worst enemies with the stories we tell. The fact is that we are all just faking it until we make it - and GOOD FOR US! In community is how we learn, and have the opportunities to practice playing out the identities we choose. In what ways are you practicing, learning and adapting who you are?

  14. 281

S7/E7: How does IDENTITY impact how we show up in close relationships?

Monthly Topic: IDENTITY Today we scratch the surface of a discussion on maintaining our identities in close relationships. Of course, t’s natural to compromise, adapt, and grow as we learn how to interact in our close relationships. Ultimately, only you get to decide which values are foundational to you, and which areas you can compromise. It’s a delicate balance, and one we want to be intentional about paying attention to.

  15. 280

S7/E6: How does IDENTITY impact how we show up in faith?

Monthly Topic: IDENTITYIn today’s episode, Jackie asks us, “how do we use IDENTITY to describe ourselves?” And then, what happens when things change? Both of us are rooted in Christian faith, so we believe that strong foundation does not change. Our identity is first with Christ, as we:Are created in God’s image; The old is gone and the new is here;God’s mercies are new each morning; and He chose ALL of us for this!So we remind ourselves of these truths by training our thoughts and our actions.

  16. 279

How does IDENTITY impact how we show up in the world?

Monthly topic: IDENTITYToday we ask, “Who are you?” How do you see yourself? How do you define yourself? Giving voice to our identities, deciding who we want to be and intentionally stepping into the world fully YOU has great benefits. Join us today as we embrace our identity with confidence, authenticity and congruency.

  17. 278

S7/E4: How does REFLECTION impact how we show up in our communities?

Monthly Topic: REFLECTIONCommunities are made up of individuals who are either practicing reflection … or not. We’ve discussed the many benefits we experience - and growth we are able to achieve -when we reflect. But how do we influence our communities to participate? How do we model reflection and empathy in community groups and in our neighborhoods?

  18. 277

S7/E3: How does REFLECTION impact how we show up in our close relationships?

Join us as we practice countering the pitfalls and practicing healthy reflection that leads to growth and better relationships.

  19. 276

S7/E2: How does REFLECTION impact how we show up in faith?

Monthly Topic: REFLECTIONIn today’s episode, we go big with following God’s command to sit back, take stock, rest, and remember. Over and again God does amazing miracles, and over and again God reminds us to stop and remember. It is in this remembrance, this reflection on alllll the ways God has been faithful, that we are reminded that he will continue to provide and be faithful and love us. We continue to find that reflection breeds gratitude and celebration!

  20. 275

S7/E1: How does REFLECTION impact how we show up in the world?

Monthly Topic: REFLECTION WELCOME to the seventh (7!!) season of the Jackie & Stacey Show. In today’s very first episode, we begin where we always do: with SELF. We discuss how important it is for us to stop. When we stop, we intentionally reflect on what we have done, what we have achieved, and where we have failed. Reflection is an important part of the beginning of a cycle or season of life. Listen in to find out more!

  21. 274

S6/E29: How does TENSION impact how we show up in our community?

Monthly Topic: TENSION In today’s episode we: 1. Brainstorm types of tensions we encounter in communities (cultural, political, socio-economic, access to justice, etc);2. Discuss the impacts of those different tensions (negative and positive); and3. Highlight the ways in which we can manage our community tensions (acknowledging, navigating, highlighting the good, etc).Join us as we hold the tensions we face in community with grace.

  22. 273

S6/E28: How does TENSION impact how we show up in close relationships?

Monthly Topic: TENSIONListen in with us as we wade through e multitudes of ways to experience tension in close relationships. Jackie and Stacey describe several ways we experience tensions - and remind us all that tensions are not problems to be solved, but instead topics to be monitored and managed. Then we discuss ways to do just that: monitor and manage the inevitable continuing tensions in close relationships.

  23. 272

S6/E27: How does TENSION impact how we show up in faith?

Monthly Topic: TENSIONThere are so many instances of tension within faith, and today we explore a few of them. Join us as we manage the tensions of what is versus what is to come; what we want to do versus what we actually do; and more dichotomies of living in faith.

  24. 271

S6/E26: How does TENSION impact how we show up in the world?

Monthly Topic: TENSIONAfter Jackie brought up Andy Stanley’s latest leadership wisdom we had to pursue this topic further. In today’s episode, we start with ourselves, and how we define the different types of tension: problems to be solved (temporary tension) and tension to be managed (ongoing tension). We hope you find this topic as fascinating as we do!

  25. 270

S6/E25: INTERVIEW w/ Jane and Lexi about LOYALTY

Monthly Topic: LOYALTYJane and Lexi drop some major wisdom! Tune in to the podcast to listen in on our interview of these two teenage philosophers! From faith to love, we’ve covered it all. What does loyalty mean to you?

  26. 269

S6/E24: How does LOYALTY impact how we show up in community?

Monthly Topic: LOYALTYThere are many benefits a community experiences because of the loyalty of its members: longevity, support, camaraderie, and more. We discuss some great communities we are in that we get these benefits from. And also, we discuss the challenges experienced in communities when there is blind loyalty, or challenges to loyalty. This continues to be a super engaging topic!

  27. 268

    S6/E23

Monthly Topic: LOYALTYThis topic continues to fascinate us! In this episode, we wonder especially if you can be loyal to a person, but not loyal to that person’s opinions/ideas/values? It so interesting *especially* in this political climate, but really any time we disagree with someone we love.

  28. 267

S6/E22: How does LOYALTY impact how we show up in faith?

Monthly Topic: LOYALTYIn today’s episode we struggle with the concept of blind loyalty in faith, compared to the benefits of faith practices. We work through which aspects of faith and values to hold on to tightly, and which we can hold loosely. In zero instances must we live in fear that our faith is a house of cards, and cannot survive healthy questioning and critical thinking.

  29. 266

S6/E21: How does LOYALTY impact how we show up in the world?

Monthly Topic: LOYALTY Loyalty is such and interesting concept: sticking by someone/something no matter what. We discuss in today’s episode: is that healthy? Is it controlling to demand or expect loyalty? When do you give loyalty freely? A fascinating topic, and we hope this episode sparks reflection of your own brand of loyalty.

  30. 265

S6/E2: INTERVIEW on Failure with Eddie Guajardo

Monthly Topic: Failure Eddie is a long time friend of Stacey’s, a local real estate estate agent, and life long leaner. In this interview, Eddie shares why he wasn’t offended in the slightest when we asked to interview him on the topic of failure. His perspective, deep thoughtfulness, and genuine desire to maintain a growth mindset will inspire you as it did us.

  31. 264

S6/E19: How does FAILURE impact how we show up in community?

How many times have we failed at bringing community together? Oh, let us count the ways… However, as we have continued to ask throughout this month: is it really a failure to not succeed at something? Instead, we choose to frame the stories we tell about things that doesn’t work out: we choose to build resilience, to make sure we are congruent with our values, and we choose who we surround ourselves with in community.

  32. 263

S6/E18: How does FAILURE impact how we show up in close relationships?

You could say that Stacey “failed” to follow the plan for today’s episode! Learn along with us as we literally practice openness and forgiveness after failure in THIS close relationship.

  33. 262

S6/E17: How does FAILURE impact how we show up in our faith?

Monthly Topic: FAILURE. Jackie leads today’s episode by walking us through 5 scriptures (read: Bible verses) that are often repeated - and perhaps even often misconstrued. Hear from the mouth of God what He thinks about failure - and what that means for us.

  34. 261

S6/E16: How does FAILURE impact how we show up in the world?

Monthly Topic: FAILURE You lost the game, you didn’t get the job, someone else got the girl. You failed. How do you respond? What now? In today’s episode we unpack the negative emotions that may come from failure. Then we come up with a plan to reframe failure into an opportunity to get smarter, to learn.

  35. 260

Thank you for showing up for our community.

  36. 259

S6/E14: How does UNCERTAINTY impact how we show up in our communities?

Monthly Topic: UNCERTAINTY. We start today’s episode discussing the adage, “life is 10% what happens to you and 90% of how you react to it.” It cannot be more evident than with the level of uncertainty we experience in the great big world of our communities - a place where anything can (and does happen!)

  37. 258

S6/E13: How does UNCERTAINTY impact how we show up in close relationships?

No matter your level, Jackie will teach us 5 ways to practice accepting uncertainty in close relationships.

  38. 257

S6/E12: How does UNCERTAINTY impact how we show up in faith?

Monthly Topic: UNCERTAINTY. The Message translation of the Bible states, “The fundamental fact of existence is this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It’s our handle on what we can’t see.” Listen in to today’s episode to consider our hypothesis that faith establishes a solid foundation that can withstand uncertainty. We would love to hear your thoughts!

  39. 256

When we manage expectations, access our growth mindset, and practice resilience, we build self-trust. Then we can reframe fear of uncertainty into embracing opportunity.

  42. 253
  43. 252

S6/E7: How does RESPONSIBILITY impact how we show up in faith?

Monthly Topic: RESPONSIBILITY Jackie poses an interesting stance about responsibility in faith: we don’t have any. The Bible does go on and on about how we need God, and we can’t ever earn forgiveness or entrance into heaven, or anything really - it’s all about Jesus. So, is Jackie’s statement true? Listen in for the discussion!

  44. 251

S6/E6: How does RESPONSIBILITY impact how we show up in the world?

Monthly Topic: RESPONSIBILITY This new month/new topic stems from last month’s discussion on Agency. One thing we have control of is taking responsibility for our words and actions. In this first look at responsibility (the stuff we have to do) through the lens of ourselves, we find four ways to practice taking responsibility AND not taking responsibility for others’ stuff!

  45. 250

  46. 249

S6/E4: How does AGENCY impact how we show up in our communities?

Monthly Topic: AGENCY. Movement > motivation. Done is better than perfect. Today we encourage you to take action in an area or on an idea that may be a baby step - the first bite of the elephant. Because nobody ever accomplished much by just complaining about it!

  47. 248

S6/E3: How does AGENCY impact how we show up in close relationships?

Monthly Topic: AGENCY Today we zone in and discuss agency through the specific relationship of parenting. Allll day every day we are modeling agency to our children. Jackie and Stacey are firm believers in parenting with the end in mind. If we step in and solve all our kids problems for them, will they ever learn agency? Practice asking these questions with your kids: what do you have agency over? … and what do you not?

  48. 247

S6/E2: How does AGENCY impact how we show up in faith?

Monthly Topic: AGENCY. Do you consider it pure joy when you face trials of any kind? Nope? Neither does Stacey. BUT, we do know that our response, our AGENCY, that we exercise in all the situations and trials of life is what builds resilience, and ultimately, that pure joy. Join us as we decide to not hunt down the snake (you’ll have to listen to find out what the heck that means!)

  49. 246

S6/E1: How does AGENCY impact how we show up in the world?

Monthly Topic: AGENCY. Agency is your sense of what you can or cannot do; the power you believe you have to affect your future. In today’s episode, we discuss how, especially in our youth, it seemed like things happened TO us. Yet, as we age and mature, we become more aware that we are not just products of our circumstances. We have far more power than we realize. Learn with us the cycle of taking control of that power, and affecting agency.
