Monthly Topic: PERMISSIONToday we discuss 4 ways to give you permission to engage in your community in a healthy way. Our impacts are persistent and strong. We sometimes aren’t even aware of the ripple effect our words and behaviors have on our communities. Bandura’s Social Learning Theory shows how our behavioral modeling reinforces our community identity, de-escalates tension, and builds trust. We have permission to 1. Practice micro-gratitude; 2 & 3. Ask curious questions & prompts; and 4. Name your values and model them.

Monthly Topic: PERMISSION This episode is for the ladies. Or, anyone who knows a lady! You see, women tend to withhold permission for themselves in five general areas: 1) to ask for what we need/want; 2) to hold boundaries in our close relationships; 3) change; 4) asking for help/space; and 5) to NOT identify as the caretaker in the relationship. Whew, these were some tough practices to discuss today, and to give ourselves permission to consider to NOT continue!

Monthly Topic: PERMISSION We have Free Will. This means we have permission to choose: a life with God, or a life without God. Even if you choose a life with God, you will wrestle with all the rest of your choices … to allow God to be the leader of your life, or not. The Psalms especially are a detailed reflection of crying out to God - in victory, battle, fear, pain, love, defeat, joy, and … you name it! The Bible says Jesus stands at the door and knocks - and we choose to give permission to the God of the universe to enter our lives or not. Love cannot and will not be forced.

Monthly Topic: PERMISSION In today’s episode, Jackie and Stacey identify and explore the originations of several social “schemas” we have adopted throughout our lives. These are societal or internal unwritten “rules” that we have been taught or learned along the way. We look at these so we can intentionally give ourselves PERMISSION to decide whether these rules still serve us, or PERMISSION to unlearn them!

Monthly Topic: LEGACYOur communities are our neighborhoods, social groups, sports engagements, schools, workplaces, and common interest groups. We ask ourselves, “how does THIS (action /thought / behavior/ etc) contribute to my legacy?” We use this question to help mold how we make decisions now. In today’s episode we call out dozens of our community members, and the legacies we see them building by showing up and making small contributions that consistently build lasting impact. Thank you. Mentors are close relationships that have helped us identify and develop our legacy value systems, and how to maintain congruence.

Be sure, our recollection of experiences is often times different from those who experience memories right along side us. Of course, t’s natural to compromise, adapt, and grow as we learn how to interact in our close relationships. Ultimately, only you get to decide which values are foundational to you, and which areas you can compromise. It’s a delicate balance, and one we want to be intentional about paying attention to.

Both of us are rooted in Christian faith, so we believe that strong foundation does not change. Our identity is first with Christ, as we:Are created in God’s image;The old is gone and the new is here;God’s mercies are new each morning; and He chose ALL of us for this!So we remind ourselves of these truths by training our thoughts and our actions.

We discuss some great communities we are in that we get these benefits from. And also, we discuss the challenges experienced in communities when there is blind loyalty, or challenges to loyalty. We work through which aspects of faith and values to hold on to tightly, and which we can hold loosely. In zero instances must we live in fear that our faith is a house of cards, and cannot survive healthy questioning and critical thinking.

Monthly Topic: LOYALTY Loyalty is such and interesting concept: sticking by someone/something no matter what. We discuss in today’s episode: is that healthy? Is it controlling to demand or expect loyalty? When do you give loyalty freely? A fascinating topic, and we hope this episode sparks reflection of your own brand of loyalty.

Monthly Topic: Failure Eddie is a long time friend of Stacey’s, a local real estate estate agent, and life long leaner. In this interview, Eddie shares why he wasn’t offended in the slightest when we asked to interview him on the topic of failure. His perspective, deep thoughtfulness, and genuine desire to maintain a growth mindset will inspire you as it did us.

How many times have we failed at bringing community together? Oh, let us count the ways… However, as we have continued to ask throughout this month: is it really a failure to not succeed at something? Instead, we choose to frame the stories we tell about things that doesn’t work out: we choose to build resilience, to make sure we are congruent with our values, and we choose who we surround ourselves with in community.

You could say that Stacey “failed” to follow the plan for today’s episode! Instead, you are be invited to a real life, real time, resolution of Stacey’s failure to show up for Jackie at an important time. The Bible does go on and on about how we need God, and we can’t ever earn forgiveness or entrance into heaven, or anything really - it’s all about Jesus. So, is Jackie’s statement true? Jackie and Stacey are firm believers in parenting with the end in mind. If we step in and solve all our kids problems for them, will they ever learn agency? BUT, we do know that our response, our AGENCY, that we exercise in all the situations and trials of life is what builds resilience, and ultimately, that pure joy.
