008. MINI WHINE: Summer Childcare Woes & Creativity Ruts
TESTING TESTING - IS THIS THING ON?! Ladies (and probably not any gentlemen?) we are pushing the boundaries of Elizabeth's mental inflexibility this week to bring you a new format called Wine Chat? Mommy Hour? MINI WHINES?! We're not 100% sure but basically what you can expect is shorter, unstructured episodes where we are just catching up on our weeks. This week we discuss: Schedules vs. no schedules for kids in summer Sucking at asking for help Elizabeth planned a day of fun and her friends said hard pass Casey is generally unwell and wants to throw adult tantrums lol The new Threads app saved Casey's creativity Why long weekends kind of suck Our relationship with Instagram P.S. 007. Tales of "Perfectly Planned" Maternity Leave and Mental Inflexibility
We enter the chat talking about urine-soaked bed sheets, being jumpy while menstruating (the bears can smell the menstruation anyone?), and being shooketh when your toddler wakes you in the middle of the night with a gentle caress. You can expect some great information and as per usual some absolute tomfoolery with this one because that's what we're all about. Taking the serious and making it less serious lol. With five maternity leaves between the two of us, we dig into how we prepared for maternity leave with each baby and how it turned out AKA not like we planned. We got this question from a listener and wanted to create an entire episode around it! We briefly discuss the new Pregnant Worker Fairness Act that is in the process of being fully put into place. Casey gets on her soapbox about how freelancer and self employed women get left out of the paid leave conversation completely. Both Casey and Elizabeth go into what they loved and what they wish they did differently with each maternity leave. Casey goes into how her business model has changed with each pregnancy and maternity leave really. Elizabeth talks about how having literal Google Docs of plans was super helpful (and then not so helpful) for her. Casey talks about how she is preparing for her next maternity leave even though she's not even pregnant yet. Really the moral of the episode is that you can't plan for something you know nothing about? All you can do is give yourself grace and lean on your community. 006. Traveling with Kids, Leave the Cat at the Door
We talk about the Titanic submersible, the cat travel community, the fact that this episode was a re-record from last week. Elizabeth goes through her travel strategy in the car as her and her family regularly drive 6 hours to Long Island, NY. Casey chats through flying with kids after being on at least a dozen flight with her kids and just recently flew with both her kids alone. Both Casey and Elizabeth started traveling with their kids from a very young age (7,8 weeks). Casey talks about the worst ages to fly with kids (even though she still travels with them at that age.) We address the thing that happened with Jessie James Decker's sister on a flight and how if it was a Dad traveling with his kids alone, the entire plane would have given him a standing ovation off the place and everyone would have helped the "poor Dad". 005. Holy Mary Was a Working Mom with Elise Gallagher
Welcome to another episode of The Mom Whine Podcast. In today's show, we delve into the topic of being working moms and explore what it truly means to navigate motherhood in this generation. We also tackle the intriguing idea of banning the term "working mom" altogether. Our guest for today is Elise, the co-founder of Catholic Women in Business. Elise found herself in a unique position where she struggled to connect with other working women in her local church who were also seeking financial independence. On the flip side, she faced challenges finding entrepreneurial women who shared her faith. Catholic Women in Business was born out of this desire to bridge the gap, with a Facebook group boasting over 4,000 members. During the conversation, Elise shares her insights on how she integrates her faith into her daily routine. From parenting and self-care to her work life and even meals, she has found ways to weave her spirituality into every aspect of her life. Our hosts, Casey and Elizabeth, also contribute their perspectives on their experiences with the Catholic Church and spiritual faith. Tune in to this enlightening episode as we delve into the complexities and joys of being working moms in today's world and as we explore the transformative power of faith and how it shapes our lives as women and mothers. 004. The One About "Mommy Wine Culture"
Trigger warning: we talk in-depth about alcohol use in this episode. We find out Casey's husband isn't actually underground that much. We talk about how annoying it is to have to schedule things around nap times or after bed or have your husband take the day off to get your hair done. Absolutely no one asked us but in this episode, we address the idea that "mommy wine culture" is toxic and detrimental to motherhood. (Obviously, there are certain circumstances that are toxic and where a person needs treatment or help, and we've listed links below for that.) But really what we wanted to talk about in this episode is how claiming "mommy wine culture" is bad or toxic is just another way to shame moms or make moms feel guilty for something they enjoy. We talk about our feelings about the mom labels of "crunchy", "scrunchy" and "silky". We can all drink whatever we want at the same table. It's other people who are pinning us against each other for literally no reason. Casey talks about how she almost did Dry June and Elizabeth talks about attending her oldest's kindergarten graduation. Listener question of the week: What has helped support you in being a working mom? P.S. 003. Living at the Pediatrician's Office and Other Momsense
Raising kids is a juggling act, and the little things add up. We're talking about clipping tiny fingernails, surviving toddler shoe wars, trying to squeeze in date nights, navigating the overwhelming parenting advice online, and so on. It's a whirlwind, but it's all better when we whine about it right?! 😂 Hold onto your wine glass because Elizabeth's doctor's office adventure takes the lead in this episode. On the day we launched our podcast, she had a day for the books! We'll let her take the mic and share the pure chaos of what really goes on behind the scenes even on a day that looks shiny and fun on social media. We truly go deep on how much time and energy goes into scheduling doctor appointments, going to them, and the aftermath of doctor appointments. Casey talks about not wanting feedback and Elizabeth elaborates on not wanting any new friends. We go off on Teacher Appreciation Week (whoops 😬), dish on what it was like to transition from 1 kid to 2 kids, Casey talks about being an overly confident first-time mom and of course we end on what wine we drank this week. Elizabeth and Casey get into how we both declared this year, The Year of….something. Here's the thing. Motherhood is incredibly overwhelming on all fronts. While our reasons and approaches are different, we wanted to talk about how we very consciously dedicated this year to something. If you're a new mom, a seasoned mom, or really just a human, you'll relate to something in our stories here. That is if you make it through the first twelve minutes of very literal sh*t talk. We're coming on strong and we know it. Casey talks about the inner voice coaching session that led her to read a book called The Surrender Experiment and how it led her to declare this year The Year of Yes. Elizabeth talk about losing herself in motherhood after having 3 kids in 6 years and how she's reclaimed herself the last five months. Should we do an end-of-summer check-in on the Year of ____?! Let us know. Some other things we get into: Making new friends as an adult. Dinner war zones and what meals our kids eat in peace. The mom who survived on wine and lollipops in Australia. Hating and eventually outsourcing laundry. The mom podcast you never knew you needed. Making motherhood less lonely, more real and a bit funnier. Thanks for tuning into The Mom Whine. Tune in next week to find out if yet another animal will prevent Casey from having a glass of wine. 001. Don't Need a Crown to be Queen
Welcome to The Mom Whine Podcast where we hilariously and awkwardly stumble through our first episode. We promise our work in progress will progress. In what ways, TBD. But here you will get to know us - Casey Crowe Taylor (hi, it's me, I'm the show notes writer, it's me.) and Elizabeth Carberry (she's the organized wiz who keeps this show on the road). We really go all over the place here but we try our best to talk through why this podcast, what this podcast is, and why this podcast came to life now. Because truth be told, we executed the sh*t out of this thing in 3 weeks flat. And as two women with multiple kids and businesses every one of you listeners had better be impressed as hell. Just kidding, at this point we will gladly take mildly entertained in the hope of impressing you down the road…maybe? We get into how this podcast was originally, casually created through a fateful Instagram DM last December when both of us were drinking daily to get through holiday madness as mothers. We talk about the bumble bee that rudely interrupted Casey's wine time for way longer than we should have. We LOL about how we are the personal secretaries for our husbands who chaotically have no one saved in their phone contacts. It's a real great sample of the random and relatable things we will get into on this podcast. And if stick with us long enough, you'll be on the inside of the "You Don't Have to Wear a Crown to be Queen" joke. We can't wait to keep making this podcast. New episodes dropping every Thursday. The mom podcast you never knew you needed. Making motherhood less lonely, more real and a bit funnier. Thanks for tuning into The Mom Whine.
