21. Beyond Academics: Navigating College Admissions, Scholarships and Study Success with Nikkee Porcaro
In this episode I interview Nikkee with No Anxiety Prep. She has been a fixture on the college admissions scene for over 15 years, assisting students both domestically and internationally with the entire college application process. As you can tell, she’s someone you can go to if you need help with making a college decision or have questions about the process along the way. If you enjoy listening to this episode, please take a moment to share it with a friend. Here’s the episode. Nikkee was full of knowledge in the college realm and beyond. I hope you grabbed some valuable takeaways. Here are mine. Prove them wrong. This is great advice for people who have been challenged. I think this can fuel a fire just like Nikkee’s to be able to do the hard work that is required to prove not only to the person doubting you, but more importantly to yourself that you are capable of achieving whatever you put your mind to. Preparation can curb anxiety. I know that’s probably too broad of a statement and I’m not in the mental health space so I can’t fully define or give an answer to anxiety, but at least for myself I know this rings to be true. If you are struggling with anxiety in work, in school, in anything, try that thing that brings those feelings up for you with different levels of preparation and see how it affects you. Nikkee lists out many ways of finding scholarships before you begin college and while you are currently attending. Even if your parents or yourself have the funds to pay tuition, scholarships are worth the effort put in to pay for your education. Don’t ignore this tactic, go back to around the 20 minute mark to listen to all the ways Nikkee suggests finding scholarships Find your style of learning that best suits you. And I think to add to this, find the tricks and methods that help you stay disciplined to study. Whether that is keeping the best study snacks on hand or using the Pomodoro method, find what works for you. Thank you so much for listening in to this episode, I hope you were encouraged to take the path of resistance, whatever that looks like for you. Even though it might be scary, it is worth it in the end to know you lived a life of intentionally and reaped beautiful rewards. Make sure to subscribe to the podcast so you don’t miss the next one! 20. How to Use SEO to Attract Dream Clients While Building a Sustainable Business with Kelly Kumler
Today I have Kelly on the podcast. At the time of recording this episode, she was a boy mom of 2 with a 3rd on the way. Some time has passed since we recorded and she has since had her 3rd baby. Congrats Kelly, I hope you and baby are doing amazing! She is a former teacher turned business owner of Kelly Ryann Co, a boutique brand and website design agency. She specialized in creating perfect brands and breathtaking websites pairing that all with game changing SEO strategies. If you enjoy listening to this podcast, don’t forget to subscribe so you don’t miss the next episode! Kelly was a blast having a conversation with. She’s one of those people I could be besties with in real life. She was so genuine and funny. Hope you enjoyed the conversation as much as I did. Here are the takeaways. Even though there were self-doubts and website design was so different than teaching, with no prior experience Kelly decided to start small and gain skills and confidence in something completely new. That is such an encouragement that if you feel like if your life isn’t where you want it to be you can always pivot and long as you have the grit and determination to figure it out along the way. SEO is an important part of a website and a business’ online marketing, but having clarity before the SEO is even more important Time tracking can be a great way to keep track of your day and where your time was spent. Even if it’s not all on work, its good to regularly evaluate where your time is going. Its also great to see where your time has previously been spent so you can be more accurate in your planning which leads me to takeaway 4. Kelly mentions how she has been more intentional in setting aside time for planning. I can attest from personal experience how this has really helped me in my business. I try to set aside at least 5 minutes at the beginning and end of each day to plan for the day and see what is coming in the next few days. Above that, Kelly mentions financial planning which is more long term. Basically, the takeaway here is that if you are an entrepreneur and own your own business, it is super helpful to intentionally set aside time for short term and long term planning. Thank you so much for listening in to this episode, I hope you were encouraged to take the path of resistance, whatever that looks like for you. Even though it might be scary, it is worth it in the end to know you lived a life of intentionally and reaped beautiful rewards. 19. Turning Your Traumas Into Treasures with Asher Wright and Lavinia Grosanu
Today I have two friends, Asher and Lavinia, who I met through a speaking group. Asher is a retired US Army Veteran, cofounder of Life Changing Wisdom Coach and coauthor of the book we discuss today, Turn Your Trauma Into Treasures. Lavinia is an entrepreneur, cofound of Life Changing Wisdom Coach and the coauthor to the same book. These two have accumulated wisdom throughout their individual journeys which pours over into their book. So, let’s see what they have to say. If you enjoy listening to this episode, it would mean the world if could leave a review on apple podcast, share it on Instagram or even with a friend. Here’s the episode. Asher and Lavinia were great! They bring such an important view to how your thinking can affect your whole life! Here are the takeaways. Discipline takes habits and habits take practice. Asher had 20 years in the military to practice those habits. Don’t be discouraged if your habits are hard to be consistent with. Take it one step at a time and keep practicing those habits. Everyone has trauma that has happened in their life whether big or small. Make sure to take the time to heal those traumas and turn them into treasure. Otherwise, it will affect your life without you even understanding why you are behaving or feeling a certain way. Your traumas can actually be a gift because they set your life in motion and the generations that follow. You just have to go back and look at your story from a different angle. When you have doubts, you should doubt your doubts. Sounds crazy, but like Asher said, doubt it powerful. So when you start to doubt yourself, instead doubt the opposition. The last takeaway for me wasn’t discussed in the episode but I wanted to add another point of view regarding how you think. I heard this from the pastor at our church on the Sunday after recording this episode. He talked about the importance of protecting your peace. I hope you understand that there are many ways to think about how your thoughts and inner dialogue affects your life and this is my perspective. So he talked about protecting your peace, or in terms of what we talked about in this podcast, language affecting your reality. This can be a very practical thing that you can apply to your life. It comes down to resisting the enemy and submitting to God or resisting God and trusting what the enemy has to say. You do this by learning how to discern the voice of the enemy so you can tune him out in order to tune God in. I hope I am conveying this as good as Mark did because he did some great preaching that day. So without getting too off topic from what Asher, Lavinia and I talked about I am going to link the video of last Sunday in the show notes if you would like to listen to that message. 18. Tips For Successfully Running a Business as a Married Couple with Chantel Henry
Today I have with me Chantel Henry. Chantel and her husband are the co-founders of The Bestsellers Academy, a company dedicated to helping experts become thought leaders by developing the intellectual property that expands and sustains their businesses. With over 15 years of combined experience in the consulting and publicity industry, they have successfully guided over 1,300 people on their writing journey. If you enjoy listening to this episode, it would mean the world if could leave a review on apple podcast, share it on Instagram or even with a friend. Here’s the episode. Chantel had some great advice for those of you thinking of going into business with a spouse. She also had great insight for what it takes to run a successful and sustainable business. Here are the takeaways. Intellectual property is understanding that the ideas, knowledge, and expertise that you possess is valuable enough to put a price tag on it. Working with your spouse can be very rewarding, but there are constantly things that need to be worked through. Such as distinguishing your partner’s voice from the voice of the CEO. I thought it was brilliant when Chantel came up with a way to distinguish this by literally having her husband wear a different color hat. What I love about this, is you can literally make something as easy or as hard as you want to. In this case, Chantel and her husband brainstormed what could be the most simple and effective way to distinguish these two roles. It’s only as hard as you make it We were talking about this in terms of working with your spouse, but I really think it applies to all businesses – understanding your limitations are so important to the sustainability of your business and marriage So much has been deposited into us through our experiences, joy, pain, peace, and so, and each one of our jobs is to unwrap our gifts and share it with everyone who can benefit. Thank you so much for listening in to this episode, I hope you were encouraged to take the path of resistance, whatever that looks like for you. 17. How to Move Past Hard Experiences with Patrick Linfante
Patrick has experienced so many valleys and mountaintops – transforming from a broken man to an Ironman. He uses his experience to give listeners a vision for creating their own path to their dreams, their own vision, and to recapturing the dream of their life. His pivotal moment came after an accident where he was thrown from his car and woke to three broken vertebrae in his neck. From there he began a journey to rebuild himself, his body, and his spirit. Today we talk about some pivotal moments in his life and how he worked through them. If you enjoy listening to this episode, it would mean the world if could leave a review on apple podcast, share it on Instagram or even with a friend. Here’s the episode. I feel like Patrick has some unique life experiences that have really shaped who he is. I really like how he could relate his experiences to everyone who is going through something hard. Everyone’s situation may be different, but everyone goes through hard things and its important to know how to work through those. Here are the takeaways. Discipline wins over motivation any day of the week. Patrick reminds us that you get a lot more results out of actually doing what you know needs to be done, not just what you want to do. Taking accountability for your own actions and choices can really be pivotal in your life. Patrick took accountability in his life for making one of the worst decisions of his life and chose to make it a learning opportunity. Patrick shares how Vulnerability can be so helpful for other people in similar situations needing to share their story. It can help you begin to process your experience and allow healing to take place. When forward progress seems too overwhelming, focus on small victories. As Patrick said, Some days are easier, some days are harder. Some days have a lot more fruits, some days have a lot more planting. Thank you so much for listening in to this episode, I hope you were encouraged to take the path of resistance, whatever that looks like for you. 16. Our Take on the Importance of Getting in the Room with Krista Marie Lynch
I interview Krista Marie Lynch who I met at EmpowerHer Live, a live networking/personal development event. If you missed the last episode let me tell you a bit about Krista. she is a business coach, photographer, and host of the She Calls Her Shots Podcast. She helps creative business owners ditch the overwhelm and create thriving businesses by focusing on the tactical strategies, habits, mindset & confidence work that's crucial to help them see long term, sustainable growth. The interview with her was quite juicy and ran a bit long so I split it into two episodes and this is the second of those two episodes. If you missed the last one feel free to go back and listen to that. We talked about her path of resistance in her almost 10 years of entrepreneurship. If you enjoy listening to this episode, it would mean the world if could leave a review on apple podcast, share it on Instagram or even with a friend. Here’s the episode. Takeaways No matter what stage you are at in your business, going to a live networking/ personal development event can be soooooo valuable. Even if you’re not in the place of implementing what you learn at the event, try to write notes and reflect on stuff as much as possible. The tiniest, but consistent implementation of things you learned will make the biggest difference. Reflecting can be immediately after the conference, but can also be later in time. Going to a live event can benefit you for Thank you so much for listening in to this episode, I hope you were encouraged to take the path of resistance, whatever that looks like for you. 15. The Winding Road of Entrepreneurship - It's Okay to Pivot with Krista Marie Lynch
Krista is a business coach, photographer, and host of the She Calls Her Shots Podcast. She helps creative business owners ditch the overwhelm and create thriving businesses by focusing on the tactical strategies, habits, mindset & confidence work that's crucial to help them see long term, sustainable growth. If you are an online entrepreneur and have ever thought about creating a membership this podcast episode is for you! Even if you have ever thought about starting your own business, this episode will bring you tremendous value! If you enjoy listening to this episode, it would mean the world if could leave a review on apple podcast, share it on Instagram or even with a friend. For those of you who think Entrepreneurship is an easy straight and narrow path, you can see from Krista’s story that there will definitely be some curves in the road and that’s totally okay and normal. She mentions you don’t know what will work until you try it. Sometimes you just have to start and pivot as you go along. And for those of you who aren’t Entrepreneurs but thinking of becoming one, I don’t want to scare you into thinking that the road is too bumpy to have a smooth ride. Okay, enough with road analogies, but Once you gain clarity on what it is that works for you and are able to build out systems it can be simple. Just remember that simple does not translate to easy. Takeaways Sustainability is super important in entrepreneurship. If you are putting a lot of effort into something that is not bringing results, pivoting is crucial to be able to do something that both brings results and is sustainable in the long run. If you are wanting to start something new, whether it is a new business or even a service you offer, think about investing in it before launching in it. A few examples of investing in your idea before starting could entail education like books, podcast, or course, or investing time in shadowing someone that currently does that or time in creating valuable content before launching. Krista talks about how investing in the people she wanted to serve before she started made it so much easier than when she had started anything previously. I know my takeaways are normally shorter, but I really want to harp on this one. Investing in something doesn’t always involve money. Starting a new business or even offering a new product or service can be a huge commitment and just proving to yourself that you can commit to investing 3-6 months of educating yourself on something or creating content consistently can be the difference between success and failure. You have to talk about what you are doing. If people don’t know what you are working on or offering they can never utilize your product or service. This is a huge lesson I have learned on my journey. For example, I spent hours creating a beautiful DIY bookkeeping spreadsheet and have sold mm maybe 2. And not because it’s a bad product, but because I don’t market it enough, I don’t talk about it enough. Full disclosure, I haven’t learned this to the fullest yet, but it doesn’t have to always be selling all the time. Like Krista said, its really about the connection you make with the community around you and creating those relationships. Then it becomes easier to talk about the things you’ve been working on and it is a much more natural process to talk about your products or services. 14: Getting Serious about Systems with Sarah Ziesler
Today I have with me Sarah who was born and raised in Germany and moved to the US in 2017.In Germany, She worked for a corporation gradually moving up the ranks. This allowed her to gain an incredible business insight and knowledge. In 2020 she started her own business and now specializes in empowering women in the business world by designing a strategy that fits their nature of business in order to reach their goals successfully. If you enjoy listening to this episode, it would mean the world if could leave a review on apple podcast, share it on Instagram or even with a friend. If you guys haven’t figured this out already is that having efficient systems in place in your business make a world of difference. Personally, I probably could have been better at processing through the clarity portion of starting a business. Remember, that is a crucial part in your success and like Sarah mentioned should probably come before your systems because If you’re not clear where you are going, you can’t increase your productivity. As she said, you’re basically just throwing spaghetti on the wall and see what sticks. Now for the takeaways. Mistakes are not a bad thing because we can use them to improve. Try to change your mindset and make that shift of seeing mistakes as something to learn from in order to run a better business. There is a specific time when people should start putting systems in place. It’s important to get clarity in your business basics before putting systems in place. Your process and systems are a part of a bigger picture, but what is even more important is your mindset. Stress is what happens when you feel like you are out of control. So when you spend the time to determine what your priorities are in your business, it gives you back that sense of control and decreases your stress. Thank you so much for listening in to this episode, I hope you were encouraged to take the path of resistance, whatever that looks like for you. 12. Nine Steps to Becoming a Published Author with Stephanie Mojica
Drawing on her 17-year tenure as an award-winning journalist with publications such as “USA Today,” “The Philadelphia Inquirer,” “San Francisco Chronicle,” and “The Virginian-Pilot,” among many others, Stephanie Mojica’s greatest passion is working with entrepreneurs, coaches, and licensed professionals such as attorneys and psychologists to craft their stories into books that they can be proud of. Known for her writing and editing skills, consulting, speaking, interviewing, and teaching abilities, and kind yet driven personality, Stephanie is passionate about helping people stand out in the crowd through written content that showcases their expertise. During the episode, we talk about her nine-step process she uses to guide people in writing a book, the route of self-publishing vs publishing with an agent, the costs of writing a book, and more. Here are the takeaways: 1. This might seem obvious, but the first step to writing a book is deciding to write the book. A huge part of this is putting a timeline to writing the book. Is now the right time or a year from now? Set a time and stick to you. 2. Now that you have a timeline of when you want to write the book, schedule it on your calendar so it actually gets done. 3. It’s a lack of organization rather than a lack of time that hinders people from writing a book 4. The 9-steps recapped: 1. Decide to write the book 2. Own your power 3. Determine the one thing you want people to remember about you 4. Identify and address the obstacles that may get in the way of writing your books. i.e. time obstacles, self-debt, etc 5. Embracing systems and support 6. Creating a plan 7. Learning how to write your book in a systematic way that allows you to enjoy the process – like deciding what parts of your book to write in what order 8. Learning how to nail your marketing even before your book is finished 9. 8. Ditching the 10 Hour Work Day While Still Being Efficient with Tamera Ahner
Today, I am talking to Tamera. We were introduced by a mutual friend and I am so thankful for that connection. Tamera owns a company that provides neighborhood publications to two neighborhoods in our community. We talk about some of the things she has learned in the last 5 years of being a business owner like how she ditched the 10 hour work day and is more efficient than ever, trust you don’t want to miss this one. Today’s takeaways: Working non stop is not sustainable. Work harder not smarter by blocking off time in your schedule to work and be consistent about your work time boundaries. When you are trying so hard to make things perfect, sometimes you lose sight of what is truly important. Examine your processes and become aware of the times you are leaning towards perfectionism. Realize that beautiful things can happen when you can learn to go with the flow in stead of striving for perfectionism. Give yourself time to reflect, especially as we are approaching the new year. Give yourself time to sit and ask yourself questions. Why did you implement a specific process? Did it work for you in the time period you implemented? Should you continue to try it or move on to something else? Ask yourself these questions and reflect. Set goals that have rewards attached to them. Make sure to celebrate when you accomplish goals. Get yourself an accountability partner. This will help you reflect on your goals and keep you on track. In addition, it reminds you that you aren’t in this alone. I think one of my biggest takeaways from this episode is that it’s okay to not be available. Tamera talks about not being available for a spontaneous lunch with a friend when it is time to work, but the same can also be true in your personal hours. If you work in an industry where client calls are not an emergency, you can set boundaries to not be available for work during personal hours. I think it is so important to have balance and discipline on both sides, business and work. Those were my takeaways, if you had any other takeaways message me on Instagram and tell me what you got from today’s episode, I would love to hear from you. 7. Improving Your Wellness with Sarah Thomas
Today I’d like to introduce you to Sarah Thomas with Burn Fat and Feast. She is a personal trainer, fitness instructor, nutrition coach, business mentor and mom of three. she empowers women both in her community and all over the country to live their healthiest life possible. her focus is first on embracing her client and opening their minds to the beauty within. We start out talking about how she opens her clients mind to the beauty within and then move into things that will help you find success including affirmations and finding your why. The biggest takeaways: Finding the beauty within takes awareness of self-talk. If you say something enough, it becomes your reality, your truth. Sarah emphasizes how important positive self-talk it. She makes a great analogy which I love, saying that working on your mindset, having positive self-talk is like pulling weeds in a garden. You don’t pull them once and then walk away, it is a continual work in progress. Write down affirmations and read them daily. You can do anything but you can not do everything. Sarah just briefly mentions this but I thought it would be a great reminder for those of us that have shiny object syndrome. Pick a couple of things to focus on and keep your focus on them. 20% of your efforts relate to 80% of your accomplishments. Choose your one domino to focus on and that will allow other things to fall into place. Community is so valuable, surround yourself with community who will help you reach your long-term goals, whether it be diet, exercise, business, or anything for that matter. Know your why. Sarah talks about knowing the why behind the how. She is referring to educating yourself as to why something will produce a specific result or as she calls it the why behind the how. She also talks about knowing your why for your motivation to reach a certain goal. The way to really find your way is to ask why 5 times to get to the deepest part of your why which is the most impactful. Reflect daily on your way and your journey. Reflect on gratitude, acknowledge a job well done that day, reflect on your why, and plan your next day. Thank you for listening to The Path of Resistance Podcast. 6. How To Be More Productive with Sierra Scacco
Hey guys, so I am doing something a bit different today with the podcast. Instead of a longer interview, I am putting out an Instagram live that I did with my friend Sierra. She’s super sweet, a soon to be mama of two, which is funny because that last two guests have been soon to be mamas of two, anyways, she’s also a wife, and a life and productivity mentor. I hope you enjoy this episode; Sierra gives the listeners great things to implement in your life to be more productive and organized which I think everyone can learn from. Here’s the takeaways: Use the time you have to make the most impact. Sierra talks about how this is possible and I totally agree. With this comes discipline as it takes being intentional with the time you do have. It’s important to enjoy what you are doing as a business owner. Going through prompts can be helpful to get clear on this vision. The three tactical ways to get more organized and be more productive: First, have a system in place to organize your thoughts. Second, set specific goals. Third, get someone in your corner as an accountability partner. Goals should be as specific as possible and it is important to reflect on your goals in order to create or update new goals. If you enjoyed today’s episode, make sure to subscribe where ever you prefer to listen and if that happens to be on Apple podcast, please leave a written review. If you loved this episode and want to hear more, maybe you have a suggestion of someone you think would make a good guest, please email me or send them to my website to fill out the guest form. 4. Your Potential is Greater Than You Realize with Katie Ferro
Today I am talking to Katie Ferro, my bookkeeping business coach. This episode gets a little long, but you should listen all the way to the end because it gets goooood. At the end Katie wraps it up with a nice little bow talking about how we are so much bigger, and have so much more potential than we think possible. But anyways, to further introduce Katie, she created her own bookkeeping company and alongside running that business, she also helps other people start a bookkeeping business of their own. Que, her and I working together at the beginning of this year! If any listeners are aspiring to become bookkeepers, I highly recommend going through one or both of Katie’s courses. Her first course is called Become a Bookkeeper aka Babs and teaches you all the skills it takes to hence the name, become a bookkeeper. The course that I took from her is called Life by the Books or aka Libby and teaches you how to build a bookkeeping business if you already have the bookkeeping skills. Here are my affiliate links if you want to check out her program: Become a Bookkeeper https://www.katieferro.com/a/38894/J3bc3DQn Life by the Books https://www.katieferro.com/a/2147513776/J3bc3DQn 6 Secrets to Starting a Simple, Scalable Bookkeeping Business https://www.katieferro.com/a/2147513515/J3bc3DQn Takeaways: Sometimes taking the path of resistance means listening to the signs around you and taking the leap of faith. Katie didn’t intentionally walk into this dream of having her own bookkeeping business, but she rode the wave of fortunate circumstances, and now she screams from the rooftops what is possible for other women. Katie talks about coaching people who’s circumstances are very different from hers, which makes sense because her story is so unique with being pregrant, getting in the car accident and then being paid to quit her job, but she guides people through their unique journey by knowing hers unfolded for her in her way, and it will unfold in just the right way for each person in their unique set of circumstances. At one point Katie is talking about low numbers related to your audience and how sometimes that isn’t necessarily bad if people are engaged. She also mentions how she asked her audience what they wanted her to do and then did what they wanted. I want to pause here and say that again, she asked her audience what they wanted and then did what they wanted. It can be as simple as that when marketing for a brand. I feel like Katie’s story at first glance doesn’t align with “the path of resistance” it seems like she was handed lucky options and chose the obvious route, first when quitting her corporate job, and then second when she started coaching bookkeepers. When you look at Katie’s story, I don’t want you to think man she got lucky! You should be inspired by her because that can be you too! “The Path of Resistance” doesn’t always have to be hard necessarily. In Katie’s case it was listening to the signs around her and “the path of resistance” comes in when she actually had to put the work in. The path of resistance is simply put being intentional in the actions you take and Katie is a very intentional person. You see this when later she talks about setting boundaries in place for her programs to make sure people are the right fit and if they aren’t politely telling them no. You guys, I am talking just as much to myself when I say this, but putting boundaries in place and saying no is life changing. It is part of the path of resistance lifestyle that you want to live. Act in optimism plan in pessimism. Katie has a whole podcast episode expanding upon this idea. Check out her podcast Profits and Prosecco if you want to learn more about this concept, it’s a good one! Listen to your thoughts! There are at least two choices in everything you do. Ask yourself what will happen if I do this and what will happen if I don’t. When you listen to your thoughts, ask yourself who’s thought it that? We are so much bigger, we are so much more, we have so much more capabilities than we think we are. Do all things in integrity. Doing thing in integrity doesn’t have to keep you small. Be different as long as you’re in integrity. I always say this at the end of episodes, but I truly mean it. If you had a different takeaway please email me ([email protected]) or DM me on Instagram and let me know what that takeaway was. I would love to hear from you!
