H-Town Sports Check-In
We promise to start doing more regular podcasts soon enough. We just can’t say when soon enough is! In the meantime, we’re checking in with the Houston teams in one ep. The Rockets season has come to an end and the blame game has begun. But is it even worth it since there will be a lot of returning faces next season? Then we check in with the Astros, while trying to remember that it’s still May and there’s more baseball to be played. Is there enough time and health for the season to turn around? Then we take a peak at the Texans upcoming schedule and the WNBA returning to Houston is official (and bittersweet). Rockets Avoid Sweep! (Can they steal another game?)
It’s been a while, folks. I was on the IL because anyone close to the Astros is in danger of injury right now. I’m holding my baby and doing the laundry but that doesn’t mean I won’t get a podcast out to recap the last week and a half of Houston sports! How are your emotions? It’s been a tough one, y’all…The Rockets are able to save face and show signs of life on offense through the transition game. But who are you blaming in the blame game? The Astros have been fighting to keep healthy players on the roster, can they still fight to win games? Of course, it’s still April and it’s way too early to bury the team. But can they start winning some series…please. Plus, we ran out of time (it took way too long just to list the Astros injuries…) but we mention the Texans draft picks and will get some scouting your way soon! Thanks for baring with us as we’re juggling life and rebounding from injury!Vamos vamos Houston Get full access to Space Cadet Sports at spacecadetsports.substack.com/subscribe

Rockets Playoffs and Astros Losing Streak
The Houston Rockets were able to end their season strong. Maybe not on the winning streak we all dreamed of but still a nice strong momentum building finish as they head to the playoffs. As we all prepare for a Rockets/Lakers series we ask: what are your expectations? How are you feeling about this team and have you been playing the blame game this season? We then move on to the injury-ridden Astros. That’s right the hopes of a strong start has been ruined by injuries and short starting pitching performances. We (quickly) recap the longest losing streak the Astros have had since 2013 and look at the good, the bad and the ugly of this Astros squad so far this season. Before you get too far in your emotions the official Space Cadet Sports Houston Astros Panic Meter reminds you that: it’s just April! The team is only 3.5 games back! Don’t let the national-Astros-haters-media get you too worried right now, cálmate! Also, we didn’t get to it by the Connecticut Sun (soon to be Houston Comets) drafted two UCLA Bruins and we’re looking forward to following their season!Vamos vamos Houston Get full access to Space Cadet Sports at spacecadetsports.substack.com/subscribe

Astros Pitching Concerns/Rockets Win 6 In A Row
Well, the series in Sacramento didn’t go the way we wanted but let’s try to look at the positives that this team is giving us: the offense. The Astros are leading MLB in a handful of offensive stats and even without Issac Paredes the team seemed patient and were able to put up enough runs to win a series. But what happened with the pitching and what can we expect going forward? We look at the last couple of Rockets games this week and recap the wins! Finally we preview the pitching matchups for the series against the Rockies that starts tonight. Get ready for a bullpen game, H-Town! I’m expecting a lot of offense in these games and a series win for the Stros, lemme know what you think.Vamos vamos Houston Get full access to Space Cadet Sports at spacecadetsports.substack.com/subscribe

Stros Sweep Sox
A three game sweep and five game streak would make any baseball fan happy! But the pessimism from the first two games have melted away as March becomes April and this fool is happy to shove it in the naysayers faces. While it’s just one week of baseball we talk about all the things to be happy about with the 2026 Astros. Is this newfound patience going to be a regular occurrence? Is Lance McCullers Jr back to dominance? Will Altuve lead the Astros in walks? We talk about it all on this episode. Plus, Rockets beat the Knicks (we’re going full throwback)! The Astros were slow out the gate (surprise, surprise) but were able to bounce back quickly and even the series against the Angels 2-2. Are the doom-and-gloomer right or is the Golden Era still going? We talk about the good and the bad from the series and look to the pitching matchups and keys to winning the series agains the Boston Red Sox. Also, the Comets are coming back to Houston, baby! Football season is officially over and that means spring training is right around the corner. Since pitchers and catchers are reporting this week we decided to do an early roster projection. We guess the 6-man-rotation, bullpen and opening day lineup. Who knows what news could disrupt our way too early look into the crystal ball, but we can’t help getting exciting about this upcoming season. With Issac Paredes remaining an Astros are you excited about the options the team is starting the year with or are you a logjam doom and gloomer? Rockets Remain Intact After Trade Deadline
The Rockets front office said they didn’t want to blow up the young core, and they stayed true to their word as the NBA trade deadline comes and goes with no Rockets roster movement. Normally this would make this podcast happy, but after the demoralizing loss to the Celtics…we’re asking you: what are you thinking about the Rockets going into the All Star Break. We also take a peak at the Astros logjam in the infield and past-Astros pitcher movement. Rockets Rebound/Texans Retrospective/Astros Winter News
They world has been wild and Paul’s own little world has been busy, but it’s time for a H-Town check-in after a wild week and a half. We start off with a note on the heartbreak that this country has been facing (for quite some time now) at the hands of the hateful and cowardly, but then we give a quick salve for the sadness: talking about the emotional roller coaster that is being a Houston fan. These Houston teams have taken fans for a tumultuous ride in 2025 and we’re hoping for less bumps in 2026. CJ Stroud will be the main character in memes until he beats the big game allegations. But is our emotional response to the game the best one? What is CJs future in Houston? We break down our opinion and then talk about the Houston Astros roster going into spring training. And finally follow up with a brief check in with the state of Rockets basketball in January. Are the growing pains for this team over or are they in desperate need of some new life via trade? Texans Winning Streak/Rockets Have A Rough Winter/Astros Sign Imai
The holiday break was fantastic for your boy, but it’s time to check back in with your Houston sports teams. The Texans have won 10 games in a row and are set to play the New England Patriots this weekend. After a 30-6 win and a bumbling offensive outing the Texans still bring hope to Paul’s heart. Meanwhile, the Rockets have been going through some big growing pains. Is this just a bump in the road or indicative of something bigger? We think the Rockets will get right after a win against the Bulls…but their next task is the OKC Thunder. I bet the competitive team we’ve been used to shows back up in this one. And the biggest news: Astros sign Japanese pitcher Tatsuya Imai in a stunning move to acquire more pitching. The Astros will most likely start the season with a 6 man rotation and are hoping the days of leaning on rookie contributions are over. (I mean, we’ll still take them as a luxury but hoping they’re not a necessity.)Vamos vamos Houston Get full access to Space Cadet Sports at spacecadetsports.substack.com/subscribe

Maybe the season hasn’t gone too well, so we’ll take a strong week to power us through the end of the year! We remind you that Paul’s Picks is a comedy performance as we look ahead at the NFL games this upcoming week and try to deduce who will win. DEDUCE! Your Houston Texans dominate a game they should have dominated beating the Cards 40-20. We look at a RB stepping up in a big spot. Talk about injuries and our hopes going forward for the rest of the year. Then we talk about the refs…I’m sorry about the Rockets-Nuggets game. I forgot the refs weren’t the star of that show. Houston Texans Keep Hope Alive
These Houston teams have a lot of fight in them and put it on display this week. The Texans came away with a big win against the Bills at home to keep hopes alive in H-Town. But the Rockets were not able to outlast the Denver Nuggets in NBA Cup Play. Plus, we knew we were Dubi stans in this house; but it seems like all of H-Town poured one out when Mauricio Dubón was traded. So we check-in with what stage of grief our listeners may be in. Don’t Dubi Like That/Paul’s Picks NFL Week 12
Today’s Paul’s Picks episode is hijacked by the sad news that fan favorite utility gold glove winner Mauricio Dubón is headed to Atlanta in return for SS Nick Allen. But first Paul talks Texans and looks into a foggy crystal ball to see which NFL teams are gonna be winners this week. Then we take a peak at the 10-3 Rockets and their game in Cleveland. And finally get around to looking at the Dubón trade and what we think the Astros ownership and front office are attempting to accomplish. How emotional are you today H-Town? The sky is crying over here in LA because Carla and I are so sad. The sun’ll come out tomorrow…well, maybe not over here. I can’t predict the weather! I can barely predict winners. The Texans win (even though it left a bad taste in the mouths of Texans fans and Titans defensive-linemen) and the Rockets continue to stay hot with a come-from-behind OT win against the Magic. We talk about the rise to mediocrity for the Texans this season, learn that CJ Stroud is out for another week, and discuss the game. Then we look at the Rockets great win against the Magic in a never-give-up effort that is making many fans excited about the potential for this team. KD, Al-P and…Reed Sheppard? That’s right, Reed has gone from whipping boy to social media darling as Rockets fans are excited about the young PG. The Texans season is on the line this week as they matchup against divisional rival Jacksonville. Is it delusional to have hope still? Or is the season over now that we officially have the panic meter out? We also look back at a lack-luster season to see how we stack up compared to your season so far. But that’s not all, folks! The Houston Texans are now 3-5 after struggling to score in a 18-15 loss to the Broncos. CJ Stroud will be out for at least one week and the Texans are in a bind, because they’re way behind but Nick Caserio wasn’t willing to make a deal. Luckily, we can also talk about the Houston Rockets. The Rox are on a 4 game winning streak-after a slightly slow start-and it looks like there is still some hope in Houston. The reverse jinx (that I totally intended…) worked and the Texans were able to win 25-15 at home. We look at the numbers a bit and look back at the game. Rockets Impress But Drop Opener vs OKC
The Houston Rockets are ready to make some noise in the NBA this season. They showed up to give us an amazing season opener. And even though they lost, there is a strong sense of optimism for this team if this is how they’re gonna play. We look at the Rox game and then sadly take a look at our Houston Texans dropping a less-than-optimistic game against the Seattle Seahawks. This offense needs some help. We then finish off with a little baseball as the Astros signed a potential starting pitcher. (Not exactly the October news we’d hope for but…here we are. It could be worse though.
