The True North Podcast

The True North Podcast was created to remind listeners that not all who wander are lost - for in Christ they are found. It speaks of how the Word of God is a compass, a tool to navigate which direction He is taking us. How though we may stray from the path, or wander along the way, the Bible is always there to redirect and guide us back to Him - to our True North.

What Is “Handmade Faith”? How to Build a Stronger Relationship with God with Jolee Carroll

What does it actually look like to build a strong, personal relationship with God—and why does it feel so hard to stay consistent? In this episode of the True North Podcast, I’m joined by Jolee Carroll, host of the She Speaks Jesus Podcast and founder of Empower Her Daily, and we’re diving into the concept of “handmade faith.” Jolee describes handmade faith as a real, intentional relationship with God that isn’t rushed, outsourced, or built on shortcuts—but something you personally cultivate over time. After stepping away from social media and the constant noise, she realized something I think we all need to hear: faith isn’t formed in distraction—it’s built in the quiet, consistent moments where we choose to show up. In this conversation, we talk about: Why faith takes time, effort, and consistency to grow How distraction and “doom scrolling” can quietly weaken your walk with God What it looks like to move from passive belief to intentional faith The difference between consuming content about God and actually walking with Him Why we can’t rely on someone else’s faith—and how we're called to build our own What it means to have a solid foundation when life gets hard If you’ve ever felt like you’re just going through the motions, struggling to stay consistent, or wondering why your faith doesn’t feel as strong as you want it to—this episode is for you. What if true influence had nothing to do with followers… and everything to do with how you live your life when no one’s watching? In this episode, we talk about: The difference between cultural and kingdom influence Why small, obedient decisions matter more than you think What it looks like to choose courage over comfort Simple, practical ways to influence the people and places around you You don’t need a following to have influence. Selah: What It Means in the Bible + 3 Signs It’s Time to Pause and Be Still with God

What if the most spiritual thing you could do right now… is pause? In this season finale of The True North Podcast, we're talking about what "Selah" means, why stillness is biblical (not weakness), and how to recognize when it’s time to pause instead of push. If you’ve been moving fast but feeling distant from God, reacting instead of responding, or sensing Him highlight something you keep rushing past — this may be your invitation to be still. What happens when the people who were supposed to love us are the ones who hurt us? The Battle for the Throne of Your Heart: What’s Really in Charge?

What’s really sitting on the throne of your heart? In a world that constantly pulls for our attention, affection, and allegiance, it’s easy to assume Jesus is in charge—without ever checking the throne room. In Week 1 of our February series, Matters of the Heart, we’re asking an honest question most of us avoid: What is actually ruling over your heart right now? In this episode, we unpack what Scripture really means when it talks about idols—not the golden statues of the past, but the quiet, internal rulers we live with every day: productivity, worry, control, and love.  If you’ve ever felt burned out “doing all the right things,” stuck in cycles of anxiety, afraid to surrender control, or tempted to compromise for the sake of being loved, this conversation is for you.  It’s time to take a hard look at what’s really in charge… and reclaim the throne. ❤️ New here? How to Walk In New Identity When Shame, Memory, and The Past Push Back

Have you ever asked, "How can I be new in Christ if people keep reminding me of who I used to be?" In this episode of we’re getting real about walking in your new identity in Christ when shame, other people, and memories of your past try to pull you backward. If you’ve ever felt disqualified, stuck between your before Jesus life and your after Jesus calling, or questioned whether real change has actually happened—this conversation is for you. We unpack the difference between shame and conviction, why shame attacks identity, and what Scripture actually means when it says you are a new creation in Christ. You’ll learn why people often cling to old versions of you, why delayed trust doesn’t equal delayed transformation, and how godly accountability is meant to protect growth—not imprison you in your past. This episode covers: Why your past doesn’t disqualify your calling How to respond when others won’t let your old life go When accountability becomes unhealthy and how to recognize it How to walk forward without constantly revisiting your past If shame keeps reintroducing your old self, this episode will remind you: your past is evidence of grace, not proof of failure. Recovering from People-Pleasing: Fear of Rejection & The Need to Be Liked

What if the thing costing you the most peace isn’t failure—but the need to be liked? In this episode, we’re unpacking the quiet, often overlooked cost of people-pleasing and how insecurity can slowly shift our focus from peace to pressure. While the desire for connection is part of how God designed us, the problem begins when being liked becomes the place we look for our true identity. Truth vs. Trend: Are You Following Jesus or Just Following the Algorithm?

In a world saturated with viral Christian content, popular sayings, and feel-good faith messages, how do we know what’s truly rooted in Scripture—and what’s just trending? In this episode, we unpack the difference between biblical truth and cultural trends, and why not everything labeled “Christian” actually aligns with God’s Word. From phrases like “follow your heart” and “do what makes you happy” to the pressure to put yourself first, we examine how "trendy" ideas can subtly drift us away from the way of Jesus. Using Scripture, we talk about: Why truth doesn’t change—even when culture does How to practice biblical discernment in a digital age Why feelings, popularity, and comfort can’t be our compass What it really means to follow Jesus when His way isn’t trending If you’ve ever felt confused by conflicting Christian voices online or wondered how to stay grounded in God’s truth without becoming disconnected from the world, this episode will help you recalibrate your heart and mind back to the one who never changes - Jesus. MINISODE - Let Love Lead: Learning to Live in The Freedom of God's Love

We talk about love all the time — but actually living it can feel risky. We quote verses like “There is no fear in love,” yet many of us still keep our hearts guarded, our walls high, and our expectations low. Because if we’re honest, love feels vulnerable. It opens us up to being misunderstood, rejected, or hurt again. In this final Advent episode, we’re talking about why love can feel so scary — and why the Christmas story reminds us that we don’t have to be afraid anymore. Jesus didn’t come wrapped in safety or control. He came close. He came gently. He came knowing love would cost Him everything — and He still chose it. That’s what makes the Christmas story the clearest picture of love we have. This episode is an invitation to loosen the grip of fear, to stop protecting ourselves quite so tightly, and to remember that because of Jesus, we are never loving alone. A Weary World Rejoices: The TRUE Joy No One Is Telling You About

We live in a weary world — and every year it seems to feel heavier. By the time we reach the end of the year, “joy” can feel hard to sing, hard to declare, and even harder to believe. But biblical joy has never depended on ideal circumstances. In this episode, we explore why joy is a command, not a feeling, and how we can rejoice even when we don’t feel joyful. Scripture reminds us that happiness is fleeting, but joy is a state of being rooted in God’s faithfulness, not our circumstances. If you’re tired of chasing happiness and waiting for life to improve before you rejoice, this episode invites you to discover the kind of joy that cannot be taken from you. Stop Giving Away Your Peace: Why Fear Is Stealing What Jesus Already Gave You

"Peace on earth? What's that like?" Most of us don’t realize it, but we’ve been paying the peace tax for years — handing over the very thing Jesus told us to keep. In this episode, we’re talking about why peace is the first thing we surrender, how fear becomes the silent thief behind it, and why Scripture keeps reminding us to let the peace of Christ rule instead of everything else. This episode is for anyone navigating anxiety, fear, holiday pressure, emotional overwhelm, or the desire to walk in a steadier, Christ-centered peace — not just at Christmas, but all year long. If you’ve been living emotionally overdrawn, constantly anxious, or exhausted from managing outcomes and expectations, this episode will help you identify the leaks, choose who gets to rule your heart, and rediscover that peace isn’t a mood — it’s a Person. And that Person is Jesus. Sign up for my newsletter: https://thenorthernnook.beehiiv.com/ New here? Learning to Hope Again in the Quiet Places

What do you do when hope feels risky — or even impossible — in a season where God seems silent? In this episode, we talk about the connection between hope and quiet seasons, and why the times that feel the most still are often the places where God is doing His deepest work. When life slows down, when answers don’t come quickly, when prayers seem to hang in the air, it’s easy to assume something is wrong. But silence doesn’t mean God has left. It doesn’t mean He forgot. And it doesn’t mean your story is stalled. Often, silence is the space where God is aligning things you can’t see yet. In this first episode of a new series, "Advent (Unwrapped)" we explore how hope grows when we stop attaching it to evidence and start attaching it to God’s character.  We unpack what it looks like to stay rooted when you want to run, to stay expectant when everything feels still, and to stay grounded in truth when your emotions want to narrate the story for you. You’ll learn how hope actually thrives in silence because silence forces you to lean on who God is, not what you feel. If you’re in a quiet in-between season, this episode will remind you that hope isn’t dead — it’s growing deeper roots. God is preparing things you can’t see yet, and He knows exactly how to lead you forward, right on time. Sign up for my newsletter: https://thenorthernnook.beehiiv.com/ New here? Thanking God for The Things He Replaced

Have you ever wondered why God removes things that once looked essential, secure, or promising? This episode explores the powerful truth that when God allows something to fall away, He is preparing to replace it with something better. We talk about a moment in Scripture where God steps into a season marked by pressure, fear, and scarcity and calls someone who feels completely unprepared to rise up. But before the victory comes, God starts removing things — resources, people, plans, and safety nets that looked necessary from the outside. What felt like subtraction was actually strategy. In this conversation, you’ll hear how God often clears out what we would have leaned on instead of Him, and how He replaces the things we thought we needed with what will truly carry us forward: His strength, His strategy, His presence, and His power. We explore the idea that sometimes the things we cling to most tightly are the things holding us back — and God loves us too much to let us stay attached to what can’t go where He’s taking us. If you’re in a season where things are falling through, shrinking down, or being removed, this episode is for you. Sign up for my newsletter: https://thenorthernnook.beehiiv.com/ New here? Thanking God for The Wait

Waiting seasons can feel long, lonely, and even pointless. But what if the wait isn’t punishment—it’s positioning? In this episode, we explore the purpose of waiting and how God uses it to train our hearts to recognize His voice, His timing, and His promises when they come to pass. So often, we grow weary when things don’t move as fast as we’d like. We start to believe that silence means absence, or that delay means denial. But God’s promises are not void—His Word will not return empty. The waiting is not wasted. Maybe you’ve been standing at your own watchtower—tired, discouraged, and wondering if God still remembers what He said. This episode is for you. The Lord is still speaking, still moving, and still faithful to fulfill what He promised. Sign up for my newsletter: https://thenorthernnook.beehiiv.com/ New here? Thanking God for The Things That Didn't Go My Way

Have you ever looked at your life and thought, “This is not how I pictured it”? Naomi did too. In the book of Ruth, Naomi loses everything and returns home bitter, empty, and convinced that God has turned against her.  In this episode, we look at Naomi’s story as a cautionary reminder and a comfort. Sometimes, when things don’t go our way, it’s not rejection — it’s redirection. God may allow emptiness to make room for something new. Just like new wine needs new wineskins, our hearts sometimes need stretching before they can hold what God has planned. If you’ve been disappointed, discouraged, or afraid to hope again, this conversation will remind you that God’s “no” is often protection, and His detours still lead to destiny. The same God who made a way in the sea is making a way in you. Sign up for my newsletter: https://thenorthernnook.beehiiv.com/ New here? Thanking God for the Doors That Didn’t Open

Have you ever wondered why God closed a door you were sure He wanted you to walk through? Sometimes the hardest thing to do is thank God for the doors that didn’t open. We pray for opportunities, relationships, or outcomes we believe are right — and when they fall apart, we question God’s goodness. But what if the door that closed wasn’t punishment… what if it was protection? In this episode, we dive into what it looks like when we try to force something to work, push against every obstacle, & get frustrated when the plan doesn’t go our way. We’ll talk about how to recognize when you’re fighting a closed door, how to trust God when you don’t understand His timing, and what to do when disappointment turns into doubt. You’ll be reminded that God plays the long game — even when we’re focused on the short one. If you’ve ever felt angry, confused, or forgotten when God closed a door in your life, this conversation will encourage you to see His “no” not as rejection, but as redirection. Because behind every closed door, there’s a God who sees what’s ahead — and loves you too much to let you walk into something that wasn’t meant for you. The Power of Influence | Staying Faithful to God's Call with Danielle Danver

In this episode, I sit down with Danielle Danver, Youth & Young Adults Director, content creator, and woman of deep faith, to unpack what it truly means to steward influence through the lens of Scripture. With a growing online community and a heart for helping others know God’s Word, Danielle shares her journey of faith — from encountering Jesus at a middle school church camp to rediscovering her calling later in life as a wife, mom, and ministry leader. What NOT to Say to Singles

This episode of the True North Podcast takes a hard look at the kind of advice often given to Christian singles—phrases like “maybe you’re just meant to be single” or “it’ll happen when you least expect it.” While they may sound spiritual, much of this advice isn’t rooted in biblical truth and can lead to confusion, discouragement, or even settling outside of God’s will. We talk about what the Bible really says about waiting seasons, why your prayers for a spouse aren’t being ignored, and how to wait expectantly, not idly. With examples like Ruth and Boaz, this episode offers faith-based encouragement for anyone feeling stuck, unseen, or weary in their season of singleness. The wait isn’t worthless—it’s worth God's timing. New here?
