Mini-Ep 11 - What do you need right now?
What do you really need in your business right now? 🤔 Let’s get real and raw and talk about those challenges! I want to here from YOU!!After an unbelievable FOUR YEARS of the Unconventional Business Podcast, I’ve realised it’s YOU who inspires me when I go off track (I am an ADHDer, after all!).Every time I hit a wall with my production schedule, your wonderful messages pull me back in and fire me up to get going again. One recent message slapped me in the face: a listener shared how this very podcast helped them grow from zero to a four-figure income in just months! 🎉 This is such a great reminder that our individual experiences and differences matter. Let’s face it: traditional business advice isn’t for everyone, especially for those of us with ADHD or different neurotypes. For me, it’s about leaning into your strengths and finding ways to sidestep challenges. So as a business owner, what’s the biggest challenge you’re facing right now? What’s keeping you up at night? I want to build my library of affordable resources to actually help you, rather than pumping out the same generic advice that doesn’t work for brains like ours.Let me know what's driving you nuts in your biz right now, and let’s figure it out together. Mini Ep 10 - Are you giving too much away?
Ever wondered if you’re giving too much away in your business? 🤔 Share this ep with a fellow business owners who needs to hear this! In today’s episode, I’m talking about that fine line between sharing value with your audience and giving everything away for free. It’s a common debate: should you hold stuff back or give it all away in your content? Here’s my take on this: when you share your insights, perspective and thinking, it’s not about giving away your expertise for free; it’s about offering your audience a taste - and earning their trust. The real value exchange happens when someone pays for your personalised attention and service. You’re not just sharing knowledge with them at this point; you’re helping them solve their specific problems, with solutions tailored to their needs. For me, it's about helping others while also ensuring I meet my business goals. You can do both! What’s your perspective on this? Let me know in the comments...!-----Curious to know more?Connect with me on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/siobhanrfox/Learn more about ADHD business coaching: https://bigpicturebusinesscoach.com/Get in touch: [email protected]

Episode 105: Is AI Making Us Less Creative?
Is AI making us less creative – especially us neurodivergent folks who might use it just to get through daily life?I’m joined by Hari Patience-Davies for this meaty episode. Hari is a storytelling coach who helps people improve their public speaking and presentations. We originally connected on LinkedIn and immediately got into a big, uncomfortable question: Is AI making us less creative? In this ep of the podcast, we talk about shame, late-diagnosed ADHD and autism, school trauma (hello, horrible art teachers), perfectionism, and the slippery slope of how easy it becomes to outsource our creativity and critical thinking to tools that were meant to “save us time”. Hari shares why she refuses to hand her writing voice over to AI, as well as the situations she happily uses tech for efficiency elsewhere. We also look at what happens when students and graduates lean on AI to write and research for them, what that might mean for the workplace, and how to use AI intentionally without losing the skills that actually matter to you.We cover:Why storytelling is a learnable skill, not a magical talentHow early criticism such as “you’re bad at drawing” can create a lifelong identity that looks like: “I can’t draw.”ADHD, autism, and the perfectionist gap between the idea in your head and what actually comes outHari’s experiments with AI-written LinkedIn posts – and why they all started to sound the sameStudies suggesting heavy AI use can erode writing and critical thinking skills in studentsThe difference between using AI for efficiency vs. outsourcing your core creativityPhones, social media, and why today’s teens often say they wish they’d never had a smartphoneThis episode is part therapy session, part tech-ethics chat, and part love letter to human creativity!Connect with Hari:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/harrietpatience/Website: www.13-times.comNewsletter: bit.ly/13x-emailStep into Siobhan's Unconventional WorldConnect with Siobhan on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/siobhanrfox/Learn more about ADHD business coaching: https://bigpicturebusinesscoach.com/Get in touch: [email protected]

Mini-ep 9: What If You Treat Yourself Like A Plant?
Is your environment helping or hindering you right now? 🤔Share this ep with someone who needs to hear this!So often, we forget how much our surroundings affect our well-being. Recently, I spent a weekend repotting my houseplants—they were pot-bound, struggling to thrive. 🌱Just like those plants, we sometimes have just about enough to stay alive but don’t truly flourish in our environments. Are we in the right space? Do we have what we need to grow? I thought about this a lot as I repotted my plants, and felt deep satisfaction in giving them the space and support they needed to thrive. 🌿 Think of yourself: Are you getting enough sunlight, support, and care? If you need a change in your environment, it's important to think about nudging your comfort zone, not jumping into something too big too quickly (plants don't like to go into too big a pot too quickly, after all!)Let’s challenge ourselves gently! What’s one small nudge you can make this week?Join me next week for more ramblings and analogies from daily life!-----Curious to know more about my work coaching ADHD business owners?Connect with me on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/siobhanrfox/Learn more about ADHD business coaching: https://bigpicturebusinesscoach.com/Get in touch: [email protected]

Mini Ep 8 - Get Out of 'All or Nothing' Thinking
Are you stuck in 'all or nothing' thinking?"If I don't do the whole thing I'd imagined today, then I've failed?"Yeah, I feel you! ADHDers and AuDHDers can be absolute pros at setting themselves unrealistic targets or expectations, coming up against a challenge or resistance, and then throwing the whole idea in the bin - oh and beating themselves up about it, of course! In this mini-ep I'm breaking down what all-or-nothing thinking can look like and how we can shift into a place of all or SOMETHING, to set ourselves up for success rather than failure. If you've ever wondered what self-compassion looks like in action - this is it!Please leave a comment or get in touch with me to let me know what you take away from this ep. Mini-Ep 7: Is Your Business An 'If...'?
When you talk about your business, do you say 'If it works out...' or 'How is this going to work out?'It might sound like a small shift in language, but there is a big difference in mindset! No shade, as always, but in this ep I invite you to think about the mindset and the language you're using - and crucually, whether that's motivating for you.... or secretly keeping you "safe"!Drop me a message or leave a comment - I'd love to know what this ep brings up for you!-----Curious to know more?Connect with me on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/siobhanrfox/Learn more about ADHD business coaching: https://bigpicturebusinesscoach.com/Get in touch: [email protected]

Episode 104 - From Self-Doubt to Self-Trust
What happens when you shift from self-doubt to self-trust? In this episode of the Unconventional Business Podcast, I am joined by Love & Breathwork Coach Hannah Holt for an honest (and mildly sweary) discussion to dismantle some of those pesky internal blocks that so often keep business owners playing small. From overcoming the "good girl" narrative (oh hi, it me!) to understanding why our brains are wired to keep us safe (but stuck), Hannah and I break down how to move from a place of constant second-guessing to radical self-trust.Inside the episode:🎧 The Power of Curiosity: Hannah explains why "curiosity is the antidote to judgment" and how shifting from "why am I like this?" to "that's interesting" can change your self-talk for the better.🎧 "Good Girl" Conditioning: How being praised for being "easy" or "quiet" as a child can impact our ability to set boundaries or take up space in business.🎧 Safety vs. Growth: Why your brain often views self-doubt as a survival mechanism. Hannah breaks down how the "primitive brain" tries to keep you in safe to avoid the perceived "danger" of visibility.🎧 Redefining Self-Trust: It isn't about knowing everything will work out perfectly; it’s the confidence that you can handle whatever comes your way.🎧 The Impact of Comparisonitis: How "compare and despair" culture on social media feeds our self-doubt and why we need to stop comparing our "internal gunk" to everyone else's "external highlight reel".🎧 ADHD and the Internal Critic: We discuss the specific challenges of ADHD, including "Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria" (RSD) and how a lifetime of negative feedback can erode self-belief.Mic-Drop Moments:"Self-doubt is just a thought, it is not a fact." We often treat our doubts as objective truths, but they are usually just stories our brains tell to keep us from taking risks."Borrowing Trust": When self-trust feels hard, Hannah suggests "borrowing" the trust your coach or peers have in you until you can build your own.The Goal is Resilience, Not Perfection: Self-trust is the "antidote to the fear of failure" because it focuses on your ability to "have your own back" regardless of the result.Keeping Receipts: Instead of focusing on what went wrong, start intentionally looking for and logging evidence of what is going right, to retrain your brain's bias.Find out more and connect with Hannah Holt here:https://www.hannahholt.co.uk/Step into Siobhan's Unconventional WorldConnect with Siobhan on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/siobhanrfox/Learn more about ADHD business coaching: https://bigpicturebusinesscoach.com/Get in touch: [email protected]

Episode 103 - Ick-Free Marketing & Sales for ADHDers
Why do marketing and sales feel so goddamn icky for business owners with ADHD? What is it about putting yourself out there that makes it feel like you're scooping your eyeballs out with spoons? In this episode, I’m digging into my 25 years of experience inside the "marketing machine" to explore why most marketing advice is a one-way ticket to burnout or us neurodivergent business owners. Together, we're binning off the "six steps to six figures" hustle-bro nonsense and finding a way to market that doesn't feel like wearing someone else's clothes. In this episode, we cover:The Corporate Borg vs. The Solo Biz Owner Reality: How I went from running massive TV ads and international events to failing at my own marketing—and what I had to unlearn to find the "ick-free" way.The Guru Culture Trap: Why our ADHD brains can be so susceptible to shame-driven "hope-marketing" at and how to spot a specialist selling hollow promises.Unmasking Your Marketing: Why your best strategy is just being your weird, wacky, authentic self - whether that means info-dumping, verbal processing, or wheeling out your favourite puns. The Three Big F*cks: WHO the f*ck are you for? Niching by "vibes" and problems rather than boring demographics.WHAT the f*ck do you offer? Why 'build it and they will come is BS' with some harsh lessons from my lockdown online course failure (the one no fucker bought!)HOW the f*ck will you convert? Why "selling to friends" absolutely counts and the power of talking to just one human a day.The Reality CheckMarketing shouldn't feel like a performance; it should feel like a fully-aligned well-oiled engine designed to help you meet your "Enough" number. If you are spending 40 hours a week creating content but not seeing success, or if you're so busy you have zero time to market, we need to find your middle ground.Permission Slip: 🎫 You are allowed to stop following neurotypical expectations that trigger your nervous system. You are allowed to say, "No, not for me right now," to any strategy that makes you want to hide under a duvet.Resources & Links:Real Hourly Rate Calculator: Have a financial honesty session with yourself and figure out your "enough" number.Marketing Personality Quiz: Discover your ND marketing personality and find where you show up best.Ick-Free Marketing & Sales Masterclass: Go deeper for just £15 and start building a strategy that serves you.Ick-Free Marketing & Sales for ADHDers 6-week course: Check out when the next cohort is running.Enjoyed the show? Episode 102 - Why breathwork is prep work
What is breathwork? A bunch of woo or something deeper, more revealing? In this episode of the Unconventional Business Podcast, I welcome back life coach and breathwork facilitator Sam Adams. Forget the "woo-woo" stereotypes - Sam brings a raw, relatable, and down-to-earth approach to a tool that is literally keeping you alive. We dive deep into how breathwork can be used as "prep work" for life’s most stressful moments, from the boardroom to the school run. We talk about:The "Expert" Myth: Why Sam is reclaiming the word "expert" after realizing she truly knows her shit, and how we often underestimate our own expertise and knowledge.Keeping it Real vs. "The Gram": Sam discusses her unconventional approach and why being "down-to-earth and swearing a lot" makes breathwork more accessible for her clients. The Rock Bottom Turning Point: Sam shares her story of facing three major life traumas simultaneously and how "conscious connected breathwork" finally pulled her out of a dark hole when talking therapy wasn't enough.Breathwork as a Natural High: Exploring the "altered states" experience possible through breath alone - no banned substances required!!The Nervous System Bridge: Understanding the breath as the physical bridge between your brain and your body, and how it can shift you out of a "frozen" or anxious state.ADHD & Sensitivity: Why high sensitivity is actually a driver for your intuition, and how breathwork helps ADHDers reconnect with a body they may have felt disconnected from for years.Mic-drop moments:"Overthinking is under-feeling." Your brain thinks in loops to keep you "safe" from the discomfort of actually feeling your emotions. Breathwork forces you to stop negotiating with your thoughts and start listening to your body."Breathwork is Prep Work": Don't wait until you're in a crisis to breathe. Using it before a stressful meeting or a difficult conversation allows you to meet others from a regulated platform rather than a dysregulated one.The "Efficiency" of Breathing: Just because breathing is automatic doesn't mean you're doing it efficiently. Sam explains how "default" breathing patterns (like holding your breath whilst checking your emails) can impact long-term brain and heart health.Find out more about Sam and her work: https://sam-adams.com/https://gift.sam-adams.com/the-unshakeable-programme https://www.linkedin.com/in/samadamscoach/Step into Siobhan's Unconventional WorldConnect with Siobhan on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/siobhanrfox/Learn more about ADHD business coaching: https://bigpicturebusinesscoach.com/Get in touch: [email protected]

Overwhelmed? It’s time to size up your diary and reclaim your space! 💫 Share this with someone who needs a reminder! In our fast-paced world, the pressure to be productive can often feel overwhelming - especially for us ADHDers and neurodivergent folks. Many of us find ourselves jam-packing our calendars, believing that every free minute should be filled with SOMETHING.In this week's mini-ep I'm sharing a fun perspective on how to combat this feeling of overwhelm by sizing up your diary, and breaking down the relationship between productivity and rest. In this week's mini-ep I’m updating you on the state of my eyes and why it’s such a great analogy for how we see things as ADHDers. I use mowing the lawn as an example of just how different that view can be (inspired by looking out at my own scraggy-looking lawn!)What has viewing things through an ADHD lens helped you to do differently? Episode 101 - The Five Figures, Zero F***s Business
Welcome to Season 5! I am back on the microphone - and for the first time, with my actual face (lucky you!) as we gently slide a bit of video into the podcast. Today, we are diving deep into a concept I have been percolating so far this year: The Quiet Business (or as I affectionately call it, the "Five figures zero f***s business").This episode was born from an aha moment in February 2026. After challenging myself to step out of my comfort zone and attend a major awards ceremony (as a finalist no less!), I found myself sitting on a long train ride home with a migraine and a profound realisation. While everyone else was in their "glad rags" drinking wine at the awards ceremony, what I really wanted more than anything was to be at home tucking my son into bed. That lifestyle just isn't for me in this season of my life - and that is A-OK!If this thinking resonates with you, too, then you're not alone. This ep is for YOU.Key Takeaways from the EpisodeI’m challenging the narrative that we must always be scaling, growing, and "leveling up" in business. What if it’s okay to just maintain? What if your current business isn't a stepping stone, but the actual destination? In this ep, I dive into:The Myth of the "In-Between": We often treat the one-man-band, five-figure business as a temporary pit-stop on the way to something bigger. But if you are happy where you are, it is okay for this to be your destination. The 5-Figure Majority: Despite the "noise" on social media from the small percentage of businesses scaling to seven figures, the reality is that five-figure solo businesses are the majority in the UK (listen to my previous ep on this for more - link below!)The True Cost of Hustle: I share the "sobering reality" of my corporate past - where the price of "success" was paid over and over in physical health, mental health, debt, and chronic anxiety. And why I refuse to live like that any more.Internal over External Validation: While being nominated for an award by a client was lovely, my priority right now is internal validation. Do I enjoy what I'm doing, how I'm living? I want to feel happy with the choices I make when I lay in bed at night. How to Build Your Own Quiet BusinessI also break down the mechanics of moving away from the "shoulds" and toward a business that actually serves your life:The Honesty Audit : Asking yourself which parts of your business are for you and which are serving your ego or your FOMO. Defining Your "Enough": How to use a financial calculator to determine exactly how much you need to live, including time off and business investments. This leads to your "Real Hourly Rate" - the return you need for every hour you sit at your desk. Link below to grab your calculator and get on this right now!The Shield of "No": How to make "No, not for me right now" your default catchphrase and use it as a shield to protect your calendar, your energy, and your capacity.Resources Mentioned in This EpisodeThe Substack Essay: Read more about the "aha moment" that sparked this episode: https://siobhanfox.substack.com/p/no-not-for-me-right-now The Real Hourly Rate Calculator: Make time for your own financial honesty session and discover your "enough" number. Episode 99 - Rewriting The Parenting Rulebook
Parenting is hard. Running a business is hard. Running a business AND parenting is even harder. Parenting while neurodivergent, and raising neurodivergent children, is another level altogether! It often feels like trying to juggle chainsaws in a hurricane. If you know this feeling, this episode is for you!In this powerful and deeply honest conversation, I am joined by ADHD coach Sarah West to talk about diagnoses, school battles, perimenopause, low-demand parenting, and what it really means to raise children who don’t fit the mould - while unlearning everything you were taught about being a “good” parent along the way.Sarah brings a beautiful combination of lived experience, clinical insight, and fierce mama-bear advocacy, and this episode will resonate with anyone who has ever thought: “Is it just us?” (spoiler: it’s not.)We talk about:✨ What led Sarah from a 20-year nursing career to ADHD coaching✨ Navigating ADHD, autism, perimenopause, and burnout simultaneously✨ The long road to her daughters’ diagnoses and the guilt that comes with “not knowing sooner”✨ Why trusting your parental instincts matters more than pleasing professionals (or anyone else)✨ The importance of curiosity in parenting neurodivergent kids✨ Low-demand parenting, reducing conflict, and choosing connection over compliance✨ Rewriting inherited parenting patterns and modelling emotional self-acceptance✨ How school systems misunderstand behaviour and what it’s actually communicatingMagic moments to take away💬 “Once you know what you’re dealing with, everything shifts. Not because the struggle disappears, but because you finally have language for it.”💬 “My job is her mental health, not cross-country on a cold Tuesday.”💬 “Everything we do gives our children permission to do the same.”💬 “I’m done earning rest. Now I ask: have I rested enough to do?”💬 “Let them be who they are, not who society tells you they should be.”Whether you’re a neurodivergent parent, raising neurodivergent kids, or simply trying to break generational patterns and do things differently, this episode is equal parts validating and empowering. You’ll walk away with practical ideas, big exhale moments, and the reminder that you are not alone in this.Find out more about Sarah West:🌐 Website: www.sarahwest-adhd.com📧 Email: [email protected]💼 LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sarah-west-adhd/

Episode 98 - Unlearning "High-Functioning"
This episode is for the ones who’ve ever been told “you don’t look autistic” or “but you seem so high-functioning” and rolled their eyes all the way into next week.In this ep, Siobhan sits down with Liz Vande Putte - an autistic and ADHD trainer, writer and workplace educator who brings equal parts humour and honesty to the conversation about what it really means to live and work as a neurodivergent adult. They cover everything from outdated labels to sensory overload, family patterns, and why the social model of disability matters more than ever. They talk about:✨ What it means to be “actually autistic” in a world that still misunderstands the spectrum✨ How workplace training can open up wider cultural conversations✨ The crossover between autism and ADHD (and why Liz thinks they’re two sides of the same coin)✨ Sensory sensitivities, “texture” of sound, and managing capacity✨ Learning to work with your brain, not against it✨ Ditching the performance of “high-functioning” and embracing authenticityMagic Moments:💬 “Speech is a motor function, language is a cognitive one. Being non-speaking doesn’t mean having nothing to say.”💬 “You’re healing me while you’re inflicting the damage - that’s remarkably efficient.”💬 “I treat my brain like a slightly demanding toddler. Just give it the sweets and it’ll cooperate.”💬 “We don’t get any time off from this method acting thing - people win BAFTAs for less.”Liz also shares practical first steps for anyone wondering if they might be neurodivergent, from connecting with community groups online to exploring self-assessment tools and lived-experience blogs. Her message? There’s nothing wrong with you. Episode 97 - The Reality of the 5 Figure Business
Ever feel like the only conversations you hear are about 6- or 7-figure businesses? In this solo ep, I'm breaking the silence on the reality of the five-figure business, a.k.a. the often-overlooked and actually most common segment of the UK's private sector. I challenge the "hustle bro" narrative, help you redefine success on your own terms, and reveal the common revenue traps that keep us business owners stuck.I wrap up with a practical solution: a Real Hourly Rate Calculator, designed to help you smash those revenue ceilings without sacrificing your wellbeing. You'll hear about:Why I'm Opening Up About Five-Figure Businesses: The media narrative focuses on huge numbers, but in my work I see that most business owners are aiming for consistent, comfortable revenue like £3k−£5k months. The Data Don't Lie: I share some interesting UK statistics showing that the vast majority of businesses are very small, one-person operations with turnover below the VAT threshold (£85k). We are the majority! Did you know that…54% of the estimated 5.7 million UK businesses are unregistered for VAT or PAYE.57% (3.2 million) of all UK businesses are sole proprietorships.88% of sole proprietorships are unregistered for VAT/PAYE.What These Numbers Look Like In Context: With an estimate of £4k per month for average household expenses and rent/mortgage, I sense check the £5k−£10k monthly revenue range as a realistic and necessary goal for many of us.Rejecting the Hustle Narrative: Why are we being told we need to aim for £100k months? Spoiler alert: the people that say this on the regular are selling something (!)Three Key Areas to Break Down Your Version of Success:Measurement: What are your metrics? (e.g., time off, physical/mental health, presence for family). Money is a tool, not the goal.Common Traps: I dive into the issues I see like hourly charging, not taking enough time off, and the dreaded boom-bust cycle (and how I suggest adopting a healthier cyclical view of business much like the ‘seasons’ in nature - because they all have their value, right!?).The Money Mindset Trap: How personal money beliefs, stories, and debt habits you’ve had inevitably manifest in your business too (and how this looks for me, personally!)The Solution: The Real Hourly Rate Calculator: I provide a step-by-step guide to calculating the true revenue you need . Warning: doing this calculation might come as a bit of a shock!Mic-drop moments:“Here's a permission slip for you: only YOU get to decide if your business is successful.”"The money that comes in is a tool that facilitates me to do the stuff I want. For me, it’s not a goal in and of itself."“Rather than ‘can I afford to take time off?” can you afford NOT to take time off? Because otherwise what you are doing is pushing yourself towards burnout."Hot Takeaways:Redefine Success: An invitation to determine your own metrics for a successful business - it's not just about the money!Evaluate Your Time: Honestly assess the hours you can work in a week and figure out how much is actually sellable time after things like admin, marketing, and rest.Ditch Hourly Charging: Start thinking about how to package your services to make more money in less time.Build in Marketing: Your version of "fully booked" must include time for permanent marketing activities to escape the boom-bust cycle (credit to Charelle Griffith for this truth bomb!)Get Real with Finances: Calculate your Real Hourly Rate to understand the true revenue your business needs, to facilitate the life you want.Resources Mentioned:ONS Business Population Estimates (UK)ONS Family Spending (UK)The Real Hourly Rate Calculator Spreadsheet (Email me to get yours at [email protected])So what now?Did this episode hit home? Episode 96 - Unmasking Your ADHD
What if the reason you “never finish anything” wasn’t laziness… but wiring? In this episode, I sit down with Nicola Thomas, ADHD coach and founder of the much-loved Finish It Friday sessions, to talk about how we can create structures that actually work for neurodivergent brains. Nicola shares her own unmasking journey, the importance of community, and why body doubling can be an absolute game-changer for people with ADHD.We explore:Why masking is exhausting (and what happens when you finally stop)The beauty of body doubling and why it works when nothing else doesCreating gentle accountability that empowers rather than shamesRedefining productivity: why “done” is always better than “perfect"This is the pep talk you didn’t know you needed: equal parts validating, practical, and reassuring.Magic Moments “I thought I was broken. Then I learned my brain just works differently.” “Body doubling isn’t about someone pushing you. It’s about not being alone in the doing.” “We’ve spent so long forcing ourselves into systems that don’t fit. No wonder we’re tired.”In short, if you’ve ever stared at your to-do list and felt completely paralysed, this conversation will remind you: you’re not broken, you just need better tools (and maybe a body double). You can find Nicola online at https://www.thebusybrain.co.uk/ or on Instagram @nicbusybrain. Episode 95 - Unconventional Coaching for ADHD Founders
In this episode, I am joined by ADHD coach Christian Ehmen to discuss his unconventional approach to working with founders and executives with ADHD. We explore the differences between traditional coaching and ADHD coaching, along with the critical importance of self-discovery and "inner work" before diving into business strategy.Christian Ehmen is an ADHD coach who specialises in helping mission-driven founders and executives “get the fuck unstuck," gain clarity, and grow their businesses. His coaching philosophy is built on the belief that personal development is the foundation for professional success. The Unconventional ApproachChristian shares what makes his coaching unconventional. While many business coaches focus on immediate, surface-level strategies like marketing and lead generation, Christian’s method starts with "inner work." He believes that for individuals with ADHD, a lack of self-awareness and emotional regulation often holds them back. He encourages his clients to understand their unique brain and how it functions, rather than jumping straight into goal setting. As Christian says, "You can't build a house on a shaky foundation." Another key part of the inner work is identifying your narratives and patterns. Christian uses the analogy of a "monster under the bed" as something you're afraid of, but once you get a peek at it, you realise it's not as scary as you thought. The Problem with "Shoulds"Our conversation also touches on the overwhelming pressure for business owners to follow a rigid set of rules or templates. For example, Social Media is filled with advice from "hustle bros" who often don't share a founder's circumstances, such as having children or other commitments. ADHD Coaching vs. Traditional Coaching,We also dive into the key distinctions of ADHD Coaching vs. Traditional Coaching, for example, how ADHD coaching provides an educational lens through which our clients can understand their unique challenges, such as executive dysfunction and emotional dysregulation. This helps them realise their struggles aren't personal failings but just characteristics of their neurotype. We discuss the importance of providing a judgment-free zone, where clients can drop their "mask" and be their authentic selves. This allows them to openly discuss their struggles and unique ways of doing things.Finding the Right CoachFinally, we share some advice on how to find the right coach for you, such as looking for a coach who is aligned with your personal values and has similar experiences or demands on their time. Their advice will be much more relevant to your life. We also discuss the importance of paying attention to how a coach makes you feel during an initial call. Finally, we conclude with the powerful idea that investing in yourself is the best investment you can make. When you invest in your personal growth, you're not just improving your business; you're unlocking your full potential. What did you think of the episode? Share your key takeaways - and don't forget to leave us a rating or review. To find out more about Christian and his work, head to: https://www.linkedin.com/in/christian-ehmen-adhd-coach/

Episode 94 - Unconventional Systems for Unconventional Minds
Why do unconventional minds need unconventional systems? In this episode, I am joined Josh Budd, founder of Neuro Notion, to discuss the often-overlooked challenges of living with ADHD, in particular the critical need for better post-diagnosis support. Diagnosed at age 10, Josh shares a bit about his own ADHD journey and explains why traditional, "neurotypical" systems often fail those with ADHD.We dive into the philosophy behind his innovative platform, Neuro Notion, which is designed to be “frictionless” for overwhelmed ADHDers. Josh explains how the app allows its users to "brain dump" tasks verbally, which are then organised and prioritised in a way that works with the ADHD brain, not against it. We explore his call for better post-diagnosis guidance and a shift towards more inclusive, ADHD-centric systems in education and the workplace. This is a powerful conversation about reimagining productivity, embracing ADHD strengths, and creating solutions that don't just accommodate, but fundamentally celebrate neurodiversity.Key Discussion Points:The Post-Diagnosis Support Gap: Josh shares his experience with the lack of guidance after an ADHD diagnosis and highlights the dire need for practical, ongoing support. Why “Neurotypical” Frameworks Don't Work for Neurodivergent Brains: We discuss why traditional productivity tools and systems often fail to meet the needs of the interest-based ADHD brain and how Neuro Notion offers a more effective alternative.A New Approach to Productivity: Josh explains his "user-centric design philosophy" and how his platform is built to reduce cognitive load and make organisation effortless, rather than increasing time spent in the app.The Power of the “Brain Dump": Learn how Neuro Notion's core feature allows its users to get thoughts out of their heads quickly and efficiently.Reframing ADHD: Josh shares his perspective on viewing ADHD not as a deficit, but as a "different operating system.”A Call to Action: We talk about what is needed to create more inclusive systems in education and the workplace, to level the playing field and unlock the untapped potential of neurodivergent thinking.Quotes:“The reality is that your brain is literally wired differently. This system that you need to use needs to understand how you work, otherwise it won't work”"I was diagnosed 12 years ago. I literally obsess over learning stuff about this every day, I read scientific journals every day. I'm an absolute nerd for it, and I still learn new things every day. So never stop. There's not a point where you say, ‘All right, cool. I know everything’. The more you learn, the better your life will be.”“Every single person, no matter who you are, you deserve to have guidance, support, next steps, given to you when you get diagnosed.”Links & Resources:Neuro Notion Website: www.neuro-notion.comConnect with Josh on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/joshua-budd/

Episode 93 - Create consistent ADHD-friendly habits with the smorgasbord approach
Is it possible to build lasting, sustainable habits with an ADHD brain? What does ‘work with your brain, not against it’ actually look like in practice? And crucially, how can that help you live and work better? Oh, and what on earth does a smorgasbord have to do with ADHD!?I answer all these questions and lots more in this short, snappy but powerful episode designed to help you put self-compassion into action and understand what really works for you (and what doesn’t!) We dive into:The importance of understanding that ADHD brains are interest-based rather than importance-based Why ‘’hacking your brain’ beating yourself up and/or using brute force to get yourself to do things is not the only way - and actually let’s face it, it doesn’t feel good eitherWhy your habits can fail, what actually does motivate your brain and why understanding ADHD brains are interest-based rather than importance-based is crucial to habit-formingMy PANIC acronym (Pressure, Accountability, Novelty, Interest, Competition) for what motivates ADHD brains, with practical examples of how to use these elements to your advantage The power of the "smorgasbord" approach, which helps you identify multiple methods to achieve a single outcome, liberating you from your current narrative around ‘consistency’ and freeing you up to create deeply personalised approaches to life and business that feel easier to achieveHow to experiment with different methods and options to reach the same goal, track what works, and avoid self-judgment and self-criticism along the wayIf you are still beating yourself with the ‘consistency’ stick and telling yourself ‘I just can’t stick to anything’, this episode is for you my friend!Find out more about my work coaching ADHD business owners at: https://bigpicturebusinesscoach.com/

Episode 85 - The ADHD Emotional Experience
Do you feel like you’re either up or down and never in the middle!? Do you tune in with your emotions and express them, or bottle them up? In this episode of the Unconventional Business Podcast, join me to talk all things emotions. We get stuck into the emotional experience of ADHD - the highs, the lows and everything in between! Emotional regulation can be tricky for ADHDers and I want to shed some light on some of the key ingredients of the feelings cocktail, including the impact of your brain function, co-occuring conditions, difficulties identifying emotions - and just being a human in today’s world! In this ep, I offer a more empowering alternative to emotional regulation, centred around accepting and making space for emotions rather than trying to regulate them (and feeling like a failure when that feels impossible!) I also talk through some practical strategies for managing emotions include crying, movement, singing, journaling, and seeking support from friends or therapists. Ultimately, I want to encourage you to view your ADHD as a difference rather than a deficit. Embracing your emotional experiences rather than trying to control or ‘regulate’ them is actually the key to flattening your ’spiky graph’ and living a calmer, more peaceful life. Episode 74 - ADHD & The Great Outdoors
Can nature really help an ADHD brain go quiet?! In this episode of the Unconventional Business Podcast, I am thrilled to be joined by Charlie Daly, to explore how embracing the great outdoors has been a game-changer for his ADHD-pinball-machine-brain. In this ep you’ll discover how kayaking, writing, and even a little bit of maths have helped him thrive not only in life, but also his unconventional business as a ghostwriter and developmental editor. Charlie and I share some insights into the benefits of the great outdoors for ADHD brains. Whilst Charlie’s passion has always been for kayaking, which he discovered at a young age, mine is very much for cold-water swimming. In both cases, the ‘high stakes’ nature of our chosen extreme sports is a massive driver in why we build our lives around them. As well as discussing the many and varied benefits of the great outdoors for an ADHD brain, Charlie also touches on the therapeutic aspects of writing his father's memoir and the spiritual connection of being a ghostwriter. Want to learn how to harness the power of nature to boost your productivity and creativity? This ep is for you! To learn more about Charlie and his work head to: https://dalyprose.com/

Episode 73 - More money, more time, or both?
Money or time? Which is more important to you? What about the bigger question: why should you have to choose?? In this podcast episode, I’m sharing an unconventional approach to balancing money and time for business owners, particularly those with ADHD. I share examples of the two main types of business owners I tend to see in my work coaching ADHD Business Owners: working all the time for not enough money and working all the time for more than enough money! I dig into the differences between the two, the pitfalls they often fall into, but also the one striking thing they tend to have in common. I also share some insights about the hidden beliefs that tend to hold ADHDers back when it comes to creating the right work-life balance, along with three key areas you can work on to start making a shift for yourself right now. How do you feel about your current balance of money and time? Is it where you want it to be? If not, this episode is a must-listen. If only there was someone you could go to who could help you do all of those things, and so much more, so you could find the right balance of time and money for you? Oh yeah. It's me 😃 I’m even my own best case study - I built my business based on a 24-hour week and I’m on track to reduce to 20 by the end of this year. Email me at [email protected] if you’re curious about ADHD business coaching and let’s have a natter.

Episode 72 - Break Up With Booze And Boost Your Business
In this episode, I chat with Chloe Myers, a coach who helps people "take a booze break" to boost their businesses. Chloe shares her refreshingly unconventional perspective on sobriety as "the route, not the destination" to unlocking more time, energy and confidence. We dive into the common myths Chloe has dispelled through her work - like the notions that not drinking is boring, will make you lose friends, or hurt your social confidence. Chloe explains how quite the opposite is true in her experience. As someone four months into being booze-free myself, I connect with Chloe over the liberation of not wasting precious time and mental space on hangovers. We discuss the "superpower" of having more energy and intentional focus for goals like writing, exercising or growing a business. Chloe offers an insightful take on why those with ADHD may be more prone to unhealthy drinking patterns, from the "dopamine-chasing" effect to not feeling like you fit in without alcohol. Her journey shows it's possible to still have fun, maintain solid friendships and belong - all without numbing ourselves with booze. For any entrepreneurs looking to optimise their time and energy, this is a must-listen on rethinking your relationship with alcohol. You can connect with Chloe on her Instagram. Episode 71 - The ADHD Diagnosis Dilemma
In this episode, I discuss ADHD diagnosis - what it is, what it isn't and my own ongoing journey to get an official ADHD diagnosis through the NHS system! While initially feeling the need for a "rubber stamp", the lack of a formal diagnosis has become less of an issue over time. I wanted to share some insights with you that have helped me, such as looking beyond the typical symptom lists and dismantling descriptions like "carelessness" and "inability to focus." In this episode, I hope to highlight some less-discussed aspects of how ADHD can manifest, such as differences in communication style, struggles with social cues, sensory issues, difficulties listening to bodily cues, and challenges with emotional regulation. I also examine ADHD strengths, such as the ability to hyperfocus on passionate interests, risk-taking that allows innovative ideas to emerge, deep empathy and intuition. I briefly weigh some potential pros and cons around pursuing an official ADHD assessment, for example access to medication and workplace accommodations. But also weigh up the risks of long waiting times and internalising an overly deficit-based view. Overall, my aim is to provide a different perspective on how ADHD shows up in real life. If you'd like to make friends with your ADHD brains and find simple, do-able strategies to 'do life and business' in a way that works for you, please do get in touch. I'd love to support you to embrace your uniqueness, discover your ADHD strengths and create what you need to thrive! Episode 70 - What is the Highly Sensitive Personality?
In this episode, I'm joined by Nina Khoo, the sensitive leadership coach who first introduced me to the concept of being a highly sensitive person (HSP). Nina provides a fantastic explanation of what it means to be an HSP - from processing information and emotions deeply, to being easily overwhelmed by too much stimuli, noticing subtleties that others miss, and having an innate ability to see the bigger picture. As Nina describes it, being highly sensitive is not a flaw at all, but rather an evolutionary gift found in about 20-30% of the population across species. HSPs were naturally designed to be the guardians and advisers, exquisitely attuned to their environment in order to alert the rest of the group to potential threats or issues. However, Nina acknowledges the challenges modern society poses for us HSPs with the constant overstimulation and fast pace. She emphases the critical importance of self-care practices like time in nature, mindfulness, healthy eating and finding community with fellow HSPs. Only from this grounded, safe space can we then embrace our role as the modern-day "advisers" by speaking up about patterns and problems we notice that others may miss. I really resonate with Nina's own personal journey - from leaving the corporate world after realising she was an HSP, to now coaching other highly sensitive leaders and entrepreneurs. She offers such wise insights for how we HSPs can tune back into our needs, honour our intuition, and lean into the gift of our sensitivity rather than viewing it as a perceived weakness. If you suspect you may be a highly sensitive person too, I cannot recommend Nina's work enough. Episode 69 - Brand Strategy for ADHD Entrepreneurs
In this episode, I'm joined by the lovely Katie Cope from Keppel Leopard Creative. Katie helps female founders find, create and embrace their true personal and business identities through branding. Katie shares her incredibly unconventional path into the world of branding, starting from backgrounds in events, animation, theatre and high-end TV production. As a fellow ADHD entrepreneur, I love hearing how Katie's neurodivergent brain allowed her to make bold sideways career moves that others may not have considered. We dive into the common myths Katie encounters around branding, like the belief that it's just a "nice-to-have" expense. Katie powerfully reframes branding as a core part of your marketing strategy and overall business identity. She outlines the key ingredients for a successful brand - storytelling to connect with your audience, truly knowing that audience, and critically, focusing first on brand strategy before visuals. I particularly appreciate Katie's insights on how a clear brand strategy acts as a guiding framework for ADHD entrepreneurs, preventing us from endlessly chasing new ideas down "rabbit holes." Throughout our chat, Katie offers loads of valuable tips for neurodivergent business owners looking to authentically represent themselves through their brand. This is a must-listen for any ADHD entrepreneur seeking to find more focus and consistency in how they show up in the world. If you want to learn more about Katie then visit Keppel Leopard Creative. Episode 68 - Take Back Your Time
In this episode, I discuss how those with ADHD can change their relationship with time to take back control. I dive into the challenges neurodivergent entrepreneurs and business owners like myself face in effectively managing our time. I introduce the "TEA & TOAST" framework - covering important mindset shifts around time (TEA) as well as practical strategies to reclaim your time (TOAST). Under TEA, I explain the importance of noticing the language you use about time, showing yourself empathy for how ADHD impacts your time perception, and taking real action steps customised for your neurodivergent brain. For the TOAST portion, I run through my method for auditing how you currently use your time in order to find pockets to ringfence. This includes looking at which tasks to template, outsource, automate, standardise or throw out altogether. Throughout the episode, I share candid examples from my own experiences as a business owner with ADHD. I offer tips like using external time cues, time-tracking tasks to plan better, and scheduling unstructured breaks. This is a must-listen for any neurodivergent entrepreneur struggling with time management and balancing work with the rest of life. If you'd like to understand how to embrace your ADHD strengths and find effective strategies to 'do life' in a way that works for you, please do get in touch.
