Continuing in the Church hurts series, Pastor Jason acknowledges church hurt is a real thing whether it comes from the pain of being hurt through sinful harm, or disappointment/ offense from unmet expectations. He gives practical, yet powerful advice to pastors and church leaders on preventing it, as well as how to heal from it. He speaks to the dangers of creating our own cultural Jesus as well as lowering our moral standards in an attempt to prevent perceptions of misrepresentation of Christ. Pastor Jason reminds us that according to Romans 1:20 it’s not just about what happened to us, but how we respond.

Continuing In this series of Without Excuse, today’s Episode features the testimony of Summerlin Ranta. You will hear how she felt the effects of a double standard in the Church when the sexual abuse she experienced by a youth within the church was swept under the rug, while her own teen pregnancy was met with discipline. She shares how this experience sent her into a rebellious spiral and how God used others, including her own daughter, to help draw her back. 

Continuing with the series “Without Excuse” guest- Ross Moslander shares of a time when he and his family were abandoned by the church (where his dad was the pastor) in a trying time when they needed the church Body most. Despite the difficulty of the circumstances and mis-representation of Christ by the elders of the church, Ross declares God is good and he has no choice but to worship God as well as to continue to be a part of His Body. He reminds us of how throughout history we can always see the goodness of God though His people will always disappoint us, as is human nature. His response to this entire story is gratitude and it is sure to encourage and inspire all who listen.

Today’s episode of Testimony Tuesday features a 30 year old story of the redemption of God in ALL things in the life of Ketura Veal. She walks us through how she saw the goodness of God despite being molested by her father, who was also her pastor, and then ignored when she came forward. She shares how God revealed Himself and His goodness even though she felt simultaneously rejected and manipulated. Her heart is exposed as she talks about the importance of forgiveness in order for our own souls to be free, as well as the importance of setting healthy boundaries when dealing with individuals whom have harmed us or grossly mis-represented Christ in our lives. This is a story sure to speak to the heart of all who have been hurt in any way by someone within the church who we count on to love, guide, and reflect Christ to us!

How do you recognize a wolf in sheep’s clothing? Turns out the Bible not only warns us there will be wolves among us, but also tells us how to recognize them. In today’s episode we discuss how not discerning a wolf can lead to “church hurt.” It is our responsibility to be on guard and alert because Satan is disguising himself as an angel of light and sitting right next to us in pews as well as preaching and leading from our pulpits. Our job is not to sit in silence and ignorance, nor to leave the church hurt, but rather we are to be on guard and expose the enemy! 

Today’s conversation is a continuation of the Pendulum Swing, this time centering on the Purity Movement. Kara is joined by special guest and Editor of When The Rooster Crows, Milton Torres and his incredible wife, Charity. Milton and Charity share how being raised in the Purity Culture shaped their decision to remain abstinent until marriage, as well as what they see as the pros and cons of what came out of that movement. Why does the church tend to go from one extreme to the next? Am I covered by grace , or am I supposed to be following rules? What ever happened to the purity movement and is purity a requirement to be a Christian? What about alcohol and cussing? Should I just follow tradition or is the Holy Spirit an actual person of the trinity that I can hear? These are questions that are answered in exploring a little further into the pendulum swings of the church. Guest, Elijah Houchens, a pastors kid raised in a charismatic church, shares what he has seen and offers wisdom in avoiding pendulum extremes.

Avoiding Pendulum swings in our Christian walk is like avoiding gravity- it seems almost impossible. But if we stay grounded in the Word, and not let the pull of the world and our experiences woth others drag us to the other side, we will find the full blessing of The Lord right in the middle. Today we explore the spirit of religion that tugs on both ends of the pendulum, and the holiness, and righteousness of a right relationship with God through His Word right in the center.

Should church leaders consume alcohol? In today’s episode, Kara is joined by her daughter Gracie to speak unscripted and totally “off the cuff.” Gracie share from her devotions in Proverbs 31 and asks her mom what her thoughts are on leaders drinking alcohol. Kara shares those thoughts along with lessons learned on giving up things so others can move up that came out of her devotions for the day.

Inspirational missionary and servant, Bethany Veal, joins Kara for Part 2 of The Neglected Instruction manual. The discussion centers around the importance of not just claiming to be a Christian but knowing Him through His Word. How will we know if we are denying Him if all we do is let the world tell us who we are supposed to be. What if we took the time to know our Creator, the same way we take time to be educated on everything else. What of we committed to and sacrificed for the One Who Created us the same way we commit to and sacrifice for athletics, fads and hobbies? What if the reason our life is a mess is because we have neglected the instruction of the One Who Created us and knows what’s best for us? And what if we return to Him?

Part 1 of The Neglected Instruction Manual compares ignoring the instructions of an owner’s manual for a Diesel pickup to fill up with a cheaper unleaded fuel, and all of its ramifications, to our neglect of God’s Word in our life due to our lack of belief or simply desire for our will and way. Host, Kara Beautiful Bald Eagle shares a significant time in her life when what she was reading in The Bible gave her specific instruction she needed to make it through. 

In today’s episode of the sound that exposed the heart, guest Deanna McDaniel correlates the sound of a rooster to a prophetic word given to her in the recent past and  shares how that word set her up for success in choosing joy in one of the hardest times of her life. She explains the importance of knowing The Word of God and having a family of God around us to discern prophetic words given by others. Deanna and Kara discuss the sound of the rooster crow in the Church regarding worship and how it relates to our individual lives and not just corporate settings. You will be challenged, and encouraged, and maybe laugh a little too.

What does the crow of a Rooster mean to you? Maybe it’s a reminder of the early start to a day, or of an annoying neighbor who harbors birds. But for Peter, it was a sign that he had denied the Lord. It was a cause to weep bitterly and repent. But had he not walked close enough to Jesus to hear His words and His warning through the sound of that crow, he likely wouldn’t have even realized he had denied Him. What things are we doing that potentially could be denying Christ without even knowing it? Today we are encouraged to walk closer with Christ through knowing His Word so we are not professing Him with our mouth while denying Him by the way we live.
