Today’s unhealthy church culture is obsessed with Christian celebrities and megachurch models. The very idea of anything Christian achieving “celebrity” status is the opposite of what we find in our Bibles. Think about it for a moment. Who was the greatest figure in Christianity? Jesus was. And how popular was He? And what did He do? He died a sinner’s death on an old rugged cross. His platform was Golgotha, and His investment was in 12 ordinary men. Jesus’ life and ministry would not have made it big on today’s stage of Christian celebrities.So, is humility a lost virtue? Is it something that needs to be restored in our lives and in our churches? Do we not live in a society of self-promotion where we are taught to do whatever it takes to get to the top, to be the best, to be the most popular or well-liked? Does not the prevailing influence in this world lead people to a radically different value system than that of Christianity? – A different value system than Christ Himself taught. There are approximately 59 "one another" verses in the Bible, depending on what translation you are reading. These "one another" verses teach us how to build fellowship that lasts. They deal with how we treat one another in the body of Christ and how we prioritize relationships in the church.

Building fellowship that lasts requires unity. Unity is another key ingredient to building fellowship that lasts. 1/3 of the "one another" verses are about unity. That's right! 1/3 are about love, and another 1/3 are about unity. What do you think about when you hear the word love? Sadly, the church has been influenced more by the world's definition of love than by God's definition. Much of our understanding of love is secular, not sacred; it is soiled, not sanctified. And yet for us to practice fellowship rightly, we must know the difference between the two. The world says one thing about love. In our text today we find that there were people in Philippi that opposed the church and her message... In Philippians 1:9-11, the Apostle Paul prays for the local church. In this particular prayer, he doesn't pray for physical needs but instead is concerned for the spiritual welfare of God's people.
