Word of Life

Word of Life is the radio and podcast ministry of Richard Schork. Richard is the senior pastor of Calvary Chapel Monrovia in Monrovia California.

  1. 739

    Matthew 14-15 Part 1

When we go through seasons of hardship, we can develop tunnel vision. For many of us, we focus on the bad things in front of us, and we forget that there is someone there who promises to be by our side - someone who promises to guide us through it, and His name is Jesus. That’s why in today’s message, Pastor Richard reminds you that Jesus reveals Himself at the perfect time, and that no matter what you go through, He is always with you.

  2. 738

    Matthew 14 Part 2

When we look at the life of Jesus, how can we say that God doesn’t love us? He sent His one and only Son to pay the price for our sin, all because of His love. Jesus conquered the grave, and today He offers us His grace. That’s why Pastor Richard encourages you to give your life to Christ, receive Him, and trust in what He has done for you. Jesus died on the cross for all who would believe in Him. Will you reach out to Him and accept it?

  3. 737

    Matthew 14 Part 1

When we go through seasons of hardship, how many of us are willing to still serve others? Jesus showed us this during His time on earth. Despite the weight He carried, Jesus came not to be served, but to serve. Even in His hardest moments, He never lost sight of His mission. That’s why in today’s message, Pastor Richard encourages us to have the same heart as Christ, loving and serving others even in difficult seasons, just as He has loved us.

  4. 736

    Matthew 12:1-13 Part 2

The Pharisees mocked Jesus for healing a sick man on the Sabbath day. They had no idea that Jesus was, in fact, the very essence of the Sabbath. There are moments when it feels like sticking to the laws in God’s Word is all that counts. But is that really the case? Today, Pastor Richard shares an insightful message about how Jesus embodies the Law Himself. He’s gone above and beyond, following every law in the Bible just to save you!

  5. 735

    James 2:1-14 Part 1

When you ponder the idea of Jesus in the world, it’s natural to imagine that He must have had an abundance of possessions during His time on earth, don’t you think? Surprisingly, it was the complete opposite! He came into the world as part of a humble family with little to no riches to his name. Today, Pastor Richard shares a beautiful reminder that Jesus entered the world with humility, serving everyone around Him with love and compassion!

  6. 734

    James 1:16-27, Mark 3 Part 2

At face level, it could be easy to believe that just going to church makes us Christian. That being a nice person is all it takes to get us into God’s good graces. But are we allowing His teachings into our hearts to actually transform us? In today’s message, Pastor Richard tells you the importance of putting what you learn from the Bible into practice and how you can be set apart as a Christian. Will you end up just a listener? Or will you be a doer?

  7. 733

    Matthew 12:1-13 Part 1

Have you ever thought about where the Pharisees stumbled in their faith journey? They got so wrapped up in following the rules and sticking to the laws that they totally overlooked the importance of having a relationship with God. It's possible that you're facing the same challenge. In today’s message, Pastor Richard invites you to establish a meaningful relationship with Jesus. He's the only path to eternal life in heaven!

  8. 732

    Matthew 11 Part 2

Despite all the incredible wonders God showed through Moses, Pharaoh remained stubborn, choosing disbelief and hardening his heart. Some people in our generation really remind me of Pharaoh. Some folks just decide to turn a blind eye to Jesus, even when all the evidence points to Him being the Saviour. Hey, are you one of those people? Today, Pastor Richard invites you to open your heart to Jesus. Don’t be so stubborn like Pharaoh.

  9. 731

    Matthew 11 Part 1

Walking in God’s path doesn’t always mean that you get to live a comfortable life. It’s more like going to war with the enemy. You never know when he will strike. Sometimes God even allows certain difficulties in your life, not to harm you, but to help you grow in your faith. Today, Pastor Richard motivates you to faithfully walk with God. His plan for you is the best. Even if difficulties come into your life, God will help you find a way through them!

  10. 730

    Matthew 10 Part 2

When someone decides to enlist in the army, they’re fully aware that the role carries its own set of challenges. In a way, following the path that God wants for us can feel just as challenging as being part of an army. Problems will always come your way. In today’s message, Pastor Richard is here to inspire you to wholeheartedly serve God with all that you have! Trust that God has your back, and He'll lead you in every step of your life!

  11. 729

    Matthew 10 Part 1

It’s easy to believe that you can accomplish amazing things for God all by yourself. Let's be real here; it’s clear that you could use a little support. Going solo just won't cut it. Today, Pastor Richard invites you to tap into the incredible power of the Holy Spirit. He’s the one who brings you closer to Jesus and empowers you to share the gospel with those around you. He will guide you in every step of your life, even during trials!

  12. 728

  13. 727

    James 1:16-27 Part 1

It seems almost limitless the number of times we can get mad in a day. From little annoyances and complaints to larger frustrations and arguments, odds are we ALWAYS believe we are in the right. AND that our anger is justified. In fact, we must be doing everyone a favor by pointing out the wrongs in this world! But Pastor Richard tells you today that the wrath of man comes nowhere close to the righteousness of God and His holy wrath.

  14. 726

    Matthew 9 Part 2

Sometimes, life throws us challenges that feel like they're weighing us down a bit too much. It can leave a deep emotional scar. Sometimes, even while sitting in church, you might find it challenging to truly connect with God. But do you know what really makes a difference? It's that moment when you truly release your burdens during Worship. Today, Pastor Richard tells you how praise and worship can bring you closer to God!

  15. 725

    Matthew 9 Part 1

Life is brimming with distractions that can pull you away from your connection with God. The enemy really knows how to attract those distractions into your life. In today’s message, Pastor Richard guides you in spotting all those distractions that might be sneaking into your life. If something is holding you back from deepening your relationship with God, think of it as a distraction and just release it from your life for good!

  16. 724

    Matthew 7:21-29

Each person sees life through their own unique lens. When it comes to seeking God, people often have their own unique styles and approaches. Today, Pastor Richard shares a heartfelt message about the importance of nurturing your relationship with God—it's truly what counts the most. Once you begin your conversation with God, you'll find that He gently leads you and reveals the way forward. So, build your relationship with Jesus!

  17. 723

    Matthew 7:21-29 Part 1

Starting with a solid foundation is absolutely crucial when building a house. It keeps the house sturdy when nature throws its wildest challenges our way. Just like constructing a sturdy building, creating your life requires a solid foundation too! Today, Pastor Richard invites you to lay down the building blocks of your life with God’s Word as your solid foundation. Once you embrace that, nothing can rattle your confidence!

  18. 722

    Matthew 7, Jeremiah 29:13 Part 3

When we realise that the road ahead is a bit tricky, we often seek out a different route—one that promises a smoother journey. So, how’s the journey that takes us to eternal life? Are there any other options we could explore? Today, Pastor Richard shares an enlightening message about how Jesus is the sole way to experience eternal life in heaven with God. Walking this path can be tough, but remember, true Salvation is found only through Christ!

  19. 721

  20. 720

    James 1:1-5, 1 Peter 1 Part 2

It’s so easy to believe that nobody could possibly understand what each of us is going through. But OH, the relief we feel when others can relate and share their own experiences. In today’s message, Pastor Richard tells you about the power of being able to reach out to others with similar struggles. God puts you through trials, not only to strengthen your faith, but also so that YOU can be the one to comfort others in their times of need.

  21. 719

    Matthew 7, 2 Samuel 12:7-14 Part 2

It sounds like you’re feeling that urge to spread the gospel and connect with others through evangelism! But there are times when that chance just slips away, and it can really start to get under your skin after a while. What are your thoughts on how to handle it? Today, Pastor Richard encourages you to stay patient and keep your eyes peeled for opportunities to share the gospel! God will surely set up that perfect moment for you to share the good news!

  22. 718

    Matthew 7 Part 1

It's interesting how often we find ourselves making judgments about others, focusing on their appearance, family history, or financial status. Have you ever stopped to think about how Jesus treated everyone with such love, regardless of who they were? It's pretty remarkable, isn't it? Today, Pastor Richard shares a heartfelt message, inviting you to be like Jesus by loving everyone without exception. Can you do that?

  23. 717

    Matthew 6 Part 2

The Bible teaches that we cannot serve two masters, and if we try to follow after Jesus while following our own interests, we will fail at both. Now, maybe we aren’t chasing after money, like the rich young ruler, but we might be pursuing fame, status, or comfort. Pastor Richard reminds us today that all of these things need to take a backseat in our lives if we want to fully run after Jesus. We need to put Jesus at the forefront of everything!

  24. 716

    Matthew 6 Part 1

What does your prayer life look like when no one else is watching? Are you spending time in God’s presence every day, or do you just come to Him every once in a while? Well, in today’s message, Pastor Richard implores you to find the time to spend time in private with the Lord. It doesn’t have to be some sort of long or elaborate prayer. God just wants your undivided attention, far away from the distractions that surround you.

  25. 715

    Matthew 5:17-48 Part 3

Do you know someone who is a little flaky? Maybe it’s hard to make plans with this person, or you just can’t count on them to do something they said they were going to do. Well, it may not seem like a life-or-death character flaw, but Pastor Richard teaches you today that this kind of behavior is a poor reflection of the Gospel! If you are truly following Jesus, you should be a person of your word. Let your yes be yes, and your no be no.

  26. 714

  27. 713

    James 1:1-5 Part 1

Which would we rather have? Going through trials and tribulations or going through life easy breezy? We’re gonna wanna pick joy over suffering every single time. But our faith is more important than our comfort. In today’s message, Pastor Richard tells you about finding joy through suffering. Overcoming obstacles may not be easy, but your faith will strengthen, and you will learn to lean on God rather than on yourself.

  28. 712

    Matthew 5:17-48 Part 2

What will it take for you to make a decision to follow Jesus? Pastor Richard is here to remind you that the Gospel isn’t something you should just put on the shelf and say, “I’ll get to it later”. Instead, you should make the decision today to follow Jesus! Nothing in this life is guaranteed, and you may have fewer opportunities to say “Yes” to the Lord than you think you do! Don’t play games when it comes to your eternal soul.

  29. 711

    Matthew 5:17-48 Part 1

Living up to the law of Moses without making a single mistake is like a basketball player scoring on every single shot they take… over the course of their entire life. But the truth is that you won’t make every single shot you attempt! The Bible teaches that even a single slip-up makes you unworthy of God’s presence. But Pastor Richard wants you to remember today that when you are in Christ, His righteousness and perfection is passed down to you.

  30. 710

    Matthew 5:13-16 Part 2

We never know when we will run into a situation where we can share the Gospel with someone! But in order for us to recognize those situations, we have to open our hearts to what the Holy Spirit is speaking to us. In today’s message, Pastor Richard encourages us to push through the awkwardness of sharing the Good News with a stranger. Someone shared the Good News with us, so we should be willing to share it with others.

  31. 709

    Matthew 5:13-16 Part 1

No one comes to Jesus without having someone guide them along the way. Even the apostle Paul, who encountered Jesus on his way to Damascus, still needed help from a fellow believer in order to become fully adopted into God’s family. Pastor Richard reminds you today that you may be someone’s best chance at encountering the Good News of Jesus’ death and resurrection. Is your life a good reflection of the love of Christ within you?

  32. 708

    Matthew 5:1-12 Part 2

You may go through your entire life without facing very much persecution for your faith. For some people, the most persecution they will face may just be a rude stare from a nearby table when they pray over their dinner at a restaurant. But no matter the nature of the persecution, Pastor Richard wants you to count it as a blessing, because Jesus teaches that those who suffer for the sake of righteousness will be blessed.

  33. 707

  34. 706

    Romans 16 Part 2

When you’re new to Christ, not everyone in your life will celebrate the change. In those moments, it’s natural to look for new people to walk alongside you, as you grow in your faith. But sometimes you might choose companions simply because they’re available, not because they’ll hold you accountable to God’s Word. That’s why today, Pastor Richard urges you to pray for godly friendships and trust that God will bring the right people into your life.

  35. 705

    Matthew 5:1-12 Part 1

When you go to a busy emergency room, the doctors may not necessarily see you in the order you arrive. If someone comes in with a serious injury, they just might get moved to the front of the line. Pastor Richard wants you to understand today that Jesus came to this world to serve those who are poor in spirit. Until you realize that you are a sinner in need of a savior, you will stay at the back of the line, and you won’t encounter Jesus!

  36. 704

    Malachi 3-4 Part 2

The only thing that can hold Jesus back from working in your heart and transforming your life is you. It’s your decision - whether to trust in Him for salvation and follow in the light of His Word. As Pastor Richard will encourage you in today’s message, the Kingdom of God is near to your heart when you are aware of your own weakness and need for a Savior. He is coming again, and those who have believed will be called up to be with Him.

  37. 703

    Malachi 3-4 Part 1

All of us long for justice. Some have a stronger draw for the world to be right than others, as sin dulls this God-given desire, but even in the cruelest heart, you often can find some remnant of this longing. As Pastor Richard will point out in today’s message, we find hope for this justice in Jesus. But we have to be patient. While we can be instruments of His peace and justice in this world, it will not be perfected till He makes all things new.

  38. 702

    Malachi 2 Part 2

The marriage relationship is the most important human relationship most of us will ever have. You become one with that person. You’re connected spiritually, emotionally, and physically in a way that neither death nor divorce can fully separate. This connection is wonderful, but as Pastor Richard will warn in today’s message, if you marry someone who doesn’t share your faith, it creates a major challenge to your spiritual compatibility.

  39. 701

    Malachi 2 Part 1

God’s Word should always be at the center of what we do as the Church. If the focus is on a particular pastor’s interpretation, a certain worship leader’s talent, a specific stance on an issue, or a denominational creed, we’re missing the point. As Pastor Richard will point out in today’s message, this is a pastor’s primary job – not to be engaging, charismatic, or magnetic, but to present the Word of God clearly, with integrity.

  40. 700

  41. 699

    Romans 16 Part 1

As we move through this world, there are times when we place our spiritual lives on the back burner. When that happens, our vision grows cloudy, and we begin to desire the wrong things instead of deepening our relationship with Jesus. That’s why today, Pastor Richard encourages you to make Jesus Christ your number one priority in life. When Christ is first, everything else falls into its proper place. So, make Jesus the center of your life today.

  42. 698

    Malachi 1 Part 2

God loves you, and there’s nothing you need to do to earn, keep, maintain, or justify that love. You don’t have to follow any rules or regulations or perform any rituals. As Pastor Richard will clarify in today’s message, the only way to be saved is through Jesus. When you trust in Him, believing that He’s your Savior and Lord, you are saved. That’s all there is to it. It will change your life, but only in response to the salvation you’re given.

  43. 697

    Malachi 1 Part 1

The verse that Pastor Richard is referencing today, where Jesus says that those who love Him must “hate” their families, has been a source of confusion and abuse at times, by those who misunderstand the heart of what Jesus was saying. Elsewhere in Scripture, it’s clear that hating anyone is the same as murdering them. We are to love others as Christ has loved us – but Jesus is our first love, and following Him should be our top priority.

  44. 696

    Zechariah 9-14 Part 2

Have you come to that place? As Pastor Richard continues our study in the Minor Prophets today, we’ll once again have our attention drawn toward Jesus. Hundreds of years before He would walk the earth in the flesh, these words of prophecy foretold the conditions of His arrival, as well as His second coming. When you submit your heart to Him in repentance and faith, you can find hope for what’s to come in this broken world.

  45. 695

    Zechariah 9-14 Part 1

At this moment, and frequently throughout its history, we’ve seen turmoil, violence, and war plague Israel and its surrounding region. Whenever things escalate over there, it can feel a little like approaching the top of a roller coaster. Many of us ask, “Is this it? Are we on the verge of Armageddon?” It can feel frightening, but as Pastor Richard will remind us in today’s message, we can have confidence knowing that Jesus wins.

  46. 694

    Zechariah 4 Part 2

There’s a story about the legendary basketball player Michael Jordan. It’s said that he was cut from the high school basketball team, so out of anger and determination, he practiced jump shots and free throws until his arms were numb. Jordan would eventually go on to become one of the most well-known players in the NBA. Today, Pastor Richard teaches that when you remain faithful in the small things, God will use you for great things.

  47. 693

  48. 692

    Romans 15:14-33 Part 2

There are moments in all of our lives when we make plans, only to watch them fall apart. What those moments reveal is a simple truth: there are many things in this world we cannot control. But there is One who sees the whole path ahead. Jesus calls us to follow Him down that road, one that leads to everlasting life. Today, Pastor Richard invites you to trust Christ with your life. When you place your life in Jesus’ hands, He faithfully leads you down the right path.

  49. 691

    Zechariah 4 Part 1

There’s a common trend in many open-world video games. As you play, you can veer off the main path to complete some side quests, and you might find some equipment in the process if you’re lucky. But one thing’s certain… as you approach a boss battle on the main quest, the developers will make sure you are well stocked. In today’s message, Pastor Richard teaches that when God calls you to complete a task, He will always equip you.

  50. 690

    Zechariah 1-3 Part 2

Have you ever seen those court videos where a family chooses to forgive someone who’s hurt them? I tend to ask the question, how can you do that when clearly, you’ve been wronged, but I think there’s a beauty in their forgiveness because it shows us how God forgave us. Today, Pastor Richard says God forgives you because of Jesus, and you can’t forget that! The enemy will try to lie and accuse you of wrong, but God sees you as His child.
