006 : Who is The InDependent Spouse? - Jess Sands

Today there's something a little different for you. I've realised that as the series has progressed you're probably interested in the story behind the podcast series and a little bit about me. Today I am sharing my own story - why I started The InDependent Spouse and how I launched my own business, Design Jessica. The InDependent Spouse podcast was born from a need to hear something new. A need to hear from the inspirational men and women who experience service life from the 'home-front' while creating successful businesses. To give a voice to those who are already achieving amazing things, and to inspire those who dream of doing the same. As the traditional role of the 'military spouse' continues to evolve in line with the military itself, it seems only fitting to reflect these changes in a modern way. What's also clear is the importance of developing your own role; one that gives you, the spouse, your own voice while also complimenting that of the service member. My own design agency, Design Jessica started after the close of RAF Lyneham, and a need to move with my husband's new posting. After a few struggles, that I talk about in the podcast episode, I now run a successful design business from my own married quarter, designing for military companies and charities.
