In her twenties, Sallie did what was expected of her: she dated a man, she married him and she had children. Soon after their marriage it became clear that her husband had mental health issues she knew nothing about. On his 3rd suicide attempt, after living with massive stress, very little money - when she looked in the cupboards for something to feed her children and there was literally nothing, she knew she had to put her children aged 1 and 3 first and leave her marriage. Back in a time where women had very little independence, she bucked against everything society was telling her to do and she left. She became self sufficient, she learned how to stand up for herself, how to go from a shy private person who didn't share her struggle to a woman who knew how to ask for help and speak to people in authority. Sallie learned new coping strategies and step by step and became strong every day - this inspirational conversation will be of great comfort to anyone who is going through struggle right now. Now in her 60's Sallie has grown into her Cone - her wisdom, she has huge personal power and influence over her own life and is now - through her own healing journey of independence is now understanding how her story can be of value to the generation below and the generation below that.
