04: The Chief

For two days, something enormous has been sitting in the ashes of the burning city, dreaming of nothing. Mary climbs a ruined tower to save the man who saved her — and for the first time, she chooses the change instead of falling into it. But victory has witnesses: a small, round machine with no weapons at all reads the battlefield, looks out a broken window, and wakes a king. Across the ruins, Guthrie forces Jonah to dial the one number no one wants to call, and tells his employer a lie that costs him something to tell. And in a stubborn little hill town that is somehow still standing — beans, laundry lines, a bonfire planned for tonight — a borrowed phone, a half-remembered number, and the phone call two episodes have been waiting for.
