Hello, hello everybody. I hope you're keeping very well and welcome to Shumain's Model Health Podcast. For those who wish to optimize their health, fat loss and long-term goals, I am of course your host and teacher Shumain Lini and I am a fitness and nutrition expert. 48 podcasts down already and I thank you for your continued support and taking a few minutes once a week to actually listen to what I have to say.
I'm very grateful. So this week we're going to discuss how to end negative self-talk. So how do we end negative self-talk? We all do it, of course, some more than others and it can have a big impact on your goals.
Whether they are weight loss goals, health goals or even business goals, they can have, how you talk to yourself can have a huge impact. I see it all too often where someone will literally talk themselves out of being successful. Maybe you're laughing, maybe you're nodding your head agreeing but this can happen. Our words are very powerful.
So let me first start by saying that the goal is not to stop it completely. We don't want to stop self-talk completely because a little bit of criticism can be good for us. It can give you a reality check and can even motivate you. But there is a big difference between I need to work out or I need to do something, then I can't do this or why do I always fail or I have no self-control.
So there's a big difference between those sentences and those thought processes. There are currently many studies showing that negative self-talk can contribute to higher levels of stress and depression and we all know what that can lead to. So what do you do with your negative self-talk? Well in this week's podcast I'm going to give you the hacks that I use on my own negative self-talk and stuff I found that was holding me back and what I did to put myself in a more forward positive direction.
So okay first don't fight or try to resist your negative self-talk because as we know what we resist, so you know when somebody tells you don't look behind you and you just do it you automatically do it. That's the idea behind this that if you try to resist your negative self-talk it will persist. So we're not resisting it but we're not going to fight for it either so we're not fighting for our limitations. So what I mean is people repetitively say oh I can't cook or I don't feel comfortable in the gym or I can't keep up or I can't do that I'm no good at this and here's the thing if you keep fighting for something or reinforce that specific thought or saying you get to keep it.
So what we fight for we get to keep. So we're not trying to resist it we're not fighting to resist it but we're not fighting for these thoughts either. So we're kind of finding a more neutral playing field that we can manage this negative self-talk on. And what I started to do and this was brought to my attention by one of my teachers many many years ago maybe even have been my granddad but he advised me it was more in a childlike way to just say every time I had self-doubt or I criticized myself he would say just magic it away.
So what I do now is I use the word abracutabra and I use I encourage you to use it as well and I know you're probably saying is she daft but the word abracutabra is actually derived from aromatic phrase meaning I create as I speak in Hebrew it means it came to pass as it was spoken. So we are seeing more and more now the power of words and of course mindset everywhere we look somebody's talking about mindset and we know that what we say and how we think can be very powerful to walk on this to be. So if we go a little bit further into the word abracutabra we can create an acronym out of the first four letters okay and this is what they stand for. The A is for acknowledge so you're going to recognize this negative self-talk you're not going to resist it and you're not going to reinforce it but you are going to acknowledge it.
The B is for breathe you're then going to breathe so you've acknowledged it you're going to breathe you're going to take a breath this can help of course lower blood pressure and create feelings of calm and relaxation so we're just kind of zoning you back in and you're going to breathe in what you want. So then the next one would be or an or stands for release so you breathe in what you want and you release what you don't want. You know you can't lead a positive life with a negative mind so on that exhale I want you to let go of those limitations or that hurt or that feeling that you're not in control or that you're not good enough or maybe you think you don't deserve something like this so you're going to take a big inhale a couple of times inhale what you want and what you really feel aligned with what your goals and dreams are and then you're going to exhale any negativity and then the last A stands for align you're going to use your imagination and create a new belief that is more aligned for what you really want so not only are you going to create this but you're going to feel it from the deepest core of your soul you're going to feel it you're going to believe it you're going to believe in yourself you're going to believe that it is true when we believe in ourselves and our abilities there is more of a chance that these beliefs will come to pass and you've heard the saying before and I'll talk to become things and the only limitations we have are the ones that we place on ourselves so there are some of my best hacks so you're not going to fight or resist the negative talk but you're not going to reinforce it either and then we're going to use the Abra acronym to just practice this new technique and bring forward these new self beliefs and a more positive attitude so I'd love for a few of you to practice practice that for the next while and give me some feedback on whether or not you think it is BS or whether it actually helped you as always I love all feedback be good or bad and I hope that you will share this with someone that may benefit if you know no doubt you do someone that has this thing for negative self talk or doesn't believe in themselves as much as they should okay have a great week everybody and I'll talk to you next week and I believe next week's podcast will be on fasting so stay tuned for that okay bye
