Good afternoon everybody and welcome back to another episode of find your model health the official podcast of Shamaine's model health for those Looking to optimize their long-term weight and health goals. I'm Shamaine Lindy I am your host and the biohacker and fitness and nutrition expert and I want to thank you for joining me again this week Before we move on with this episode, I must stress that the information in these podcasts should be taken as informational purposes only and not as medical advice So moving on this week We're looking at fat fallacies So as much as I'm sure I am going to get some backlash for this podcast because it's a sensitive subject I do want to discuss an emerging trend that states that being overweight does not necessarily mean you are not healthy Now before you start sending the hate mail, I will stress that I have always always thought health first and not skinning as first So this podcast is to highlight the health Associations with being overweight or obese but to also help people Understand how carrying excess body weight affects them their body their help and even their mental health And it would really be unethical of me to let a fat fallacy like this go across my radar without addressing it I've seen it a few times, especially locally. I've seen a few people Say it on Facebook. I'm not gonna drop names But I am well aware that there are a few local health coaches that support plus-size models or people being comfortable in their own skin Which is great, but they also set support these people in saying it's okay You can be overweight and still be healthy And it's my job to make sure that people have the correct understanding and to help people become their healthiest and Unfortunately that cannot be done if you are overweight before you turn this podcast off.
Let me explain why So I heard a quote from a lady recently saying just because you're overweight does not mean you are at a high risk of disease And then of course this made me think about this podcast and doing a topic on this because it wasn't the first time I had heard someone speak a sentence or so like this So when we look at the science and how the body actually works it all shows that extra levels of fat do create disease So there was a study done on a million women in Europe and I can provide a link if people need us and it found that People that were at a healthy weight were at a high risk of heart disease if They had high cholesterol or high blood pressure or other risk factors that would associate with Heart disease, but it also found that the people who were overweight or obese So not just obese overweight too had the highest risk of heart disease even more so than those normal way people With the risk markers now. I'm not trying to shame people at all. That's not what I do But I do want to highlight the myth that fat and fit don't really go together My job is to support help help and in doing that. I must educate people I feel it's important for people to be educated and understand how the body actually works Now a few times I have met people telling me they feel like crab and they're struggling with their weight But they also went to their doctor and got a blood panel done and the doctor in turns out everything was fine Now what we need to realize is that a blood panel is just a snippet in time and that these tests are not showing the risk of Later disease.
So for example by the time you have cardiovascular risk factors or biomarkers showing on a blood test You have already got the cardiovascular damage and we only see liver damage after fatty liver has kicked in and started to create cirrhosis Also, what doctors don't always most of the time not always most of the time they don't test for in blood panels Inflammatory markers like out of a Kings or C or P. So C reactive proteins So both of those are inflammatory markers and they don't test for toxins that are being released from fat tissues Now if you have excessive fat on your body You will be pumping more of these toxins or chemicals that are not shown on blood panels into your body because fat acts as an organ We know fat acts as an endocrine organ that means it pumps out extra estrogen and we know that extra estrogen We know what it does in regards to PCOS and infertility and inflammation and also What excess estrogen does to our cortisol levels too? So if you want to refresh around them just go back and listen to my estrogen PCOS and cortisol podcast plus fat cells also act as a storage unit for toxins We know animals store toxins in their fat cells and humans are animals therefore we are no different That's why if we can nowadays we're eating organic or grass-fed or wild meats So that we know there is a limited amount of toxins in that meat Okay, so next when we look at the microbiome or gut health Having extra fat in your body and bloodstream can actually change your microbiome because we know that people with obesity have generally weird good issues and generally irregular moods Like depression or anxiety. This is all linked because with obesity people do not generate nearly as much serotonin as they should out of their enteric nervous system Which is located in their good so this can come down to having a sort of good issue like dysbiosis But also an overgrowth of bad bacteria And if you have of course if you're not producing enough serotonin Of course, you're going to look for that serotonin from junk foods or foods that make you feel good and there You can see this vicious cycle goes on Also, the more we are learning about good books or bacteria and we're learning a lot about it on my Facebook page this week One of those bug strains is a firm acute no firm acutes are in a higher ratio in those who are overweight Firm acutes contrary to the name firm Acute they don't make you firm acute unfortunately they make us overweight and unhappy Studies show that firm acute causes to crave sugar and they slow our metabolism down They also starve off the other good books So they steal food from them and they devour everything so the good books get starved out and die off while these bad bugs keep growing And they also cause you to crave more sugar they slow your metabolism down even more you gain more weight and so on and so on Again, the cycle continues And of course we know that good issues are adored autoimmune diseases like thyroid lupus and arthritis so Of course, then there's also the issues with insulin resistance, which is unleading So this is when you have excess body weight excess body weight is the sign of insulin resistance So your muscles become resistant to the insulin and the sugar then can't get into the cells So it just gets converted to fat instead and then we know that when we have insulin resistance we generally have leptin resistance So we don't feel satisfied with our food or we always want more feel that we are still hungry and we need more so unfortunately even if All your blood panels come back right and your cholesterol looks great and your blood pressure looks great and this bad and the other No blood panel is just a snippet in time Obesity puts you at a higher risk to disease and health issues in the future It may not be shown up today on your blood panel But it will show up plus we also take into account the pressure that excess weight puts on your joints and your bones and your body and your Feed and everything as well And then of course the toxin stored in the fat cells that can crash cross excuse me the blood brain barrier that may be causing Brain degradation.
So your brain cells dying off. Okay, so if you haven't followed my journey I used to be 250 pounds So I do know what it's like to have that extra weight on your frame And I do know better than anyone how it feels how bad it feels And although I was no expert at the start of my journey I did know I was not healthy and I believe most of us know when we were we are not in our optimal zone And we can feel how carrying extra weight makes us feel before any biomarkers like high blood pressure Appear so the truth is if you want to live a long time healthily and happily then losing body fat is going to be a big player in that So again as much as I am not trying to shame anyone I do want people to understand how carrying excess body fat affects their health and their mental health and how they may be setting themselves up for risk in the future So I'm not promoting being skinny I'm not shaming anyone with extra weight on their body But I am highlighting the fact that health should always be your priority always be your priority And in order to do that you should have an understanding of how the body works and how different things in your environment are going to affect you Like food and movement and your gut health and so on and so on So I hope this podcast enlightens some of you I really do because I worry about this trend I worry that there is an Issue going on nowadays where people are starting to accept their excess body weight But they don't actually understand what they're doing to themselves in the long term And I really I get it all the time I get people coming to me and they say look I'm not here to lose weight But visually I can see look you do need to lose weight because this is not healthy for you So people even at that I see are ashamed to admit themselves, but they might need to lose weight and I think that is society So you're not losing weight for society You're losing weight for yourself and for your health and for your family and for your future And I had this conversation with a good friend of mine this morning The reason I train hard the reason that I watch what I eat the reason I try to do what I do is because I want to be my best Because I believe we only have one life. I believe we only have one body I have two young boys that need me. I need to be my best I want to be my best I want to have the best body and I want to have the best life because if we only get one then I'm gonna give it my best shot And I'm not going to waste this I hope I really hope this helps some of you and enlighted some of you Maybe even motivated you and of course as always if you want to reach out to me when I need feedback good or bad You can reach out to me to my website She means model help calm or to my Facebook page And I'm always open to suggestions on podcast topics as well.
