In today’s episode we go into detail on what integrative dentistry is and the benefits of it compared to modern dentistry. Integrative dentistry is focused on the mouth-body connection and the overall well-being of the patient. There is an emphasis on prevention, healthy habits, less invasive procedures, internal health of the teeth and nutrition. He explains how he can tell a lot about a person’s health by looking at their teeth and gums. Fascinating stuff! I talk about how my eyes were opened to the fact that for years - because of the way things work - I have thought of dental health as a thing separate from the rest of my body.  We have separate dental insurance, dental hygiene products, different doctors for our teeth and the dentists themselves are taught to think this way in their training. We also talk about some other ways modern dentistry has gone wrong. For example - the use of mercury and BPA in fillings, and overuse of root canals and fluoride. Dr. Roberts gives us some great advice on nutrition for good oral health and great recommendations for learning more!  Enjoy!
