We have separate dental insurance, dental hygiene products, different doctors for our teeth and the dentists themselves are taught to think this way in their training. We also talk about some other ways modern dentistry has gone wrong. For example - the use of mercury and BPA in fillings, and overuse of root canals and fluoride.
