    112 | Ryan’s Tongue Tie Release at Age 42

At age 42, Ryan had a tongue tie release procedure. Why?Over the past couple of years, I have been learning a lot about airway health. I have two previous podcast episodes on the topic. Episode 109: Improve Your Airway, Improve Your HealthEpisode 111: Fixing the Airway: Effects on Sleep, Behavior and HormonesAnd through that learning, I realized that Ryan had many of the symptoms of a restricted airway. After having him evaluated by our integrative dentist (contact info below), he helped us understand that Ryan had a class 3 tongue tie that was keeping his tongue from being in the proper position for optimal breathing AND creating a lot of tension in his body. His symptoms were snoring, grinding his teeth, waking up in the middle of the night, general tightness in his jaw, neck and shoulders and also plantar fasciitis. Yes, a tongue tie can affect your feet! We explain how in this episode. Ryan joins me in this episode to share about his airway health journey and the results of the tongue tie - it's been truly amazing!  We are so thankful that we learned about this and have been able to find some relief for Ryan.  I hope this info blesses you and those you know too, it’s share worthy stuff! For a consultation or info from Roberts Integrative Dentistry:Myofunctional Therapy Info: https://robertsintegrativedentistry.com/oral-myofunctional-therapy/Roberts Integrative Dentistry Phone and Email:  (417) 246-3029 and [email protected] Therapy can be performed virtually.New Resource: Breast Health Guide - dailywellnesscommunity.com/breast-health-guide→ Please take 1 minute to show your support of the show!  Apple Podcasts: Sign in and scroll to the bottom to review!https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/daily-wellness-podcast/id1651051841Spotify: Leave a rating and follow the show! 111 | Fixing the Airway: the Effects on Sleep, Behavior and Hormones with Kristi Dobbs

If your tongue could talk, it would tell you it affects far more than speech — from sleep quality and hormones to jaw development and restless kids. In this episode I interviewed Kristi Dobbs, a dental hygienist and myofunctional therapist from Roberts Integrative Dentistry, about how oral posture, nasal breathing, tongue-tie releases, and simple device and exercise-based therapies can transform sleep, behavior, pain, and overall health. What myofunctional therapy is: muscle-focused therapy for the face, tongue, jaw, and soft palate (like physical therapy for the neck up). Some modern lifestyle contributors to poor jaw development: softer diets, early solids/formula, early tooth removal and braces timing.Common signs linked to oral function problems: narrow palate, long face, gummy smile, mouth-breathing, snoring, TMJ, speech issues, picky eating, digestive problems, plantar fasciitis. The four pillars of myofunctional therapy: nasal breathing, lip seal, correct tongue posture, and proper swallowing.Device options: MyoMunchie (from ~6 months), Myobrace, Myo nozzle/Remplenish, and Invisalign palatal expansion when needed.Tongue-tie approach: pre- and post- myofunctional therapy plus a laser release and suturing to optimize outcomes and retrain function.Timing and commitment: therapy typically runs 12 sessions over ~6 months; results improve with ongoing maintenance exercises but require occasional practice to retain gains.Integration with other therapies: best results come when myofunctional therapy is combined with ENT, SLP, chiropractic, massage/lymphatic work, orthodontics, and other integrative providers.Virtual options: evaluations and much of the therapy can be done via telehealth; surgical procedures require an in-person provider.Contact Kristi Dobbs and Roberts Integrative Dentistry:Myofunctional Therapy Info: https://robertsintegrativedentistry.com/oral-myofunctional-therapy/Roberts Integrative Dentistry Phone and Email:  (417) 246-3029 and [email protected] Therapy can be performed virtually.Signs and symptoms of disordered breathing: https://mail.google.com/mail/u/1/#inbox/FMfcgzQfBkQwSbXXmnqckwjRmgSCfkTp?projector=1&messagePartId=0.1New Resource: Breast Health Guide - dailywellnesscommunity.com/breast-health-guide→ Please take 1 minute to show your support of the show!  Apple Podcasts: Sign in and scroll to the bottom to review!https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/daily-wellness-podcast/id1651051841Spotify: Leave a rating and follow the show! 108 | Why Your Meat Matters: Regenerative Ranching, with Jacquelyn Whetten

Jacquelyn Wetin of CJW Pino joins Melisha to talk about honest, practical ranching: how regenerative and rotational grazing change animal health and flavor, why buying direct from farmers matters for your family’s nutrition, and small-farm realities—from pricing and labels to marketing and freezer logistics. Hear what it really takes to raise healthier meat and how consumers can vote with their dollars to support better food systems.Main pointsJacquelyn explains the difference between commercial meat systems and direct-to-consumer regenerative practices, including vaccine, antibiotic, and hormone use.Rotational grazing improves land health, reduces hay feeding, and can support profitability by improving pasture productivity.Commercial supply chains often mix animals from many sources and can lack transparency—labels can be misleading and product-of-origin claims are not always trustworthy.Chicken and pork in conventional systems are often raised in confined, antibiotic-reliant conditions that harm animal health and nutrient quality.Jacquelyn’s approach: raise animals from conception to plate, rotationally graze year-round, avoid antibiotics and growth hormones, and use targeted feed (alfalfa, prairie hay, some non-GMO corn) for consistent flavor.Buying directly from trusted farmers improves traceability, nutrient quality, and supports local food resilience; buying in bulk (halves/quarters) is often the most sustainable model for farms.Practical consumer tips: rethink price-per-pound vs. upfront cost, plan ahead and use a freezer, ask farmers questions, and prioritize farmers who are transparent and communicative.Farmers need marketing and word-of-mouth; sharing social posts and referrals can be as helpful as purchases for small producers.Connect with CJW Pino RanchBUY MEAT!  Delivery or local pickup: https://cjwpinoranch.net/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cjwpinoranch/Please take 1 minute to show your support!  Apple Podcasts: Sign in and scroll to the bottom to review!https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/daily-wellness-podcast/id1651051841Spotify: Leave a rating and follow the show! 107 | How to Reverse Type 2 Diabetes with Dr. Jeff Hockings

On this episode of the Daily Wellness Podcast, I interview Dr. Jeff Hockings, cofounder of a patented type 2 diabetes reversal program. Dr. Hockings breaks down why type 2 diabetes is a lifestyle-driven condition, how it can be reversed (not cured) with targeted diet, coaching, supplements and accountability, and what real-life outcomes look like when people commit to change. If you or someone you love is managing blood sugar, this conversation offers practical hope and a clear path forward.Main points:Types of diabetes: distinction between type 1 (autoimmune), type 2 (lifestyle/adult-onset, reversible) and the emerging “type 3” link to Alzheimer’s/dementia.Causes and patterns: long-term high-carb/high-sugar diets, hidden sugars, sedentary lifestyle and societal factors (fast food, screen time) drive insulin resistance. Most primary care doctors are trained to manage diabetes with medications, not reverse it — reversing requires different nutritional and lifestyle approaches. What “reversal” means: achieving a non-diabetic A1C (≤ ~5.9) while off diabetic medications — essentially remission that requires lifelong maintenance of healthy habits.Program structure includes a personalized telemedicine program (3–7 months typical), assigned health coach, daily/weekly check-ins, Enjoy/Avoid food list, supplements, exercise guidance, and medication weaning coordinated with the patient’s physician.Diet approach: similar to a paleo-style focus — whole foods (vegetables, fruits, meats), avoid high-carb processed foods and dairy/sugary items; not a restrictive calorie-counting diet, but sustainable lifelong eating patterns.Role of supplements and exercise.Benefits beyond glucose: improved blood pressure, cholesterol, kidney function, sleep, energy, sexual function (ED improvement), and reduced need for multiple medications.Success examples: dramatic cases shared — patients coming off high insulin doses, large A1C improvements, weight loss and resolution of neuropathy/blurred vision after following the program.GLP-1s and meds: GLP-1s and other pharmaceutical options are treatments (and increasingly popular), but they are not a reversal — they carry side effects and are not a substitute for lifestyle-based remission.Prediabetes is usually easy to reverse with simpler interventions; routine annual lab work is key for early detection. The program is telemedicine-based, available across the U.S., with a money-back guarantee if prescribed steps are followed and reversal is not achieved.Connect with Dr. Jeff HockingsWebsite and webinar: https://diabetesreversalgroup.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/diabetesreversalgroup/Please take 1 minute to show your support!  Apple Podcasts: Sign in and scroll to the bottom to review!https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/daily-wellness-podcast/id1651051841Spotify: Leave a rating and follow the show! 106 | Is Your Health Issue Self-Imposed? Is There Hope? with Dr. Mark Sherwood, ND

In this episode with Dr. Mark Sherwood, a seasoned functional medicine practitioner and co-founder of the Functional Medical Institute in Tulsa, we chat about why your health issues may be self-imposed and how knowing that can bring you hope. If you want to learn more about holistic health, the impact of lifestyle choices, and the true meaning of stress you’ll love this. He offers practical advice for busy parents and individuals looking to reclaim ownership of their health beyond pharmaceuticals and quick fixes.Main Points:Early onset perimenopause and low testosterone are rising, linked to stress, environmental toxins, and poor diet.Traditional medicine often focuses on symptom management rather than root causes; Dr. Mark emphasizes thorough listening and personalized care.Functional medicine approach includes exhaustive testing—blood, genetic, stool, and micronutrient—to develop tailored health plans.Stress is reframed as an action (a verb) we control, not a fixed condition, empowering individuals to manage their responses.Self-imposed, choice-driven lifestyle factors (poor diet, unresolved emotions like fear and resentment) account for over 90% of chronic disease patterns.Healthcare system or reactive “sick care”? How to take personal responsibility in health and wellness.Practical lifestyle habits include prayer/meditation, movement, clean eating focused on whole foods, and maintaining balanced relationships. The importance of teaching children healthy habits early and modeling stress management and good nutrition.Virtual and in-person care options available, with monthly free webinars educating anyone interested in functional health.Connect with Dr. Mark SherwoodWebsite: https://sherwood.tv/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drs_mark_and_michele_/Website for searching pharmaceutical caused deficiencies: https://mytavin.com/Free Ebook: Health, Hope, Freedom: http://fmidr.com/hhfPlease take 1 minute to show your support!  Apple Podcasts: Sign in and scroll to the bottom to review!https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/daily-wellness-podcast/id1651051841Spotify: Leave a rating and follow the show! 103 | Pass or Smash? Women’s Health Edition, with Micah Hubbard, FMNP

Pass or smash: women’s health edition.  Women receive a lot of mixed messaging when it comes to health.  This is good for you.  This is bad for you.  Do this. No, don't do that! It’s hard to filter all of it and discern what is really best. So, in this episode, I invite Micah Hubbard, a functional medicine nurse practitioner to weigh in on trending topics in women’s health. 83 | How Trauma Can Cause Chronic Pain with Grace Secker

In this enlightening episode, I sit down with Grace Secker, a passionate psychotherapist and chronic pain coach specializing in the intricate connection between the mind and body. Grace shares her personal journey from experiencing chronic pain and trauma to discovering transformative healing methods that integrate emotional awareness with physical well-being. Listeners will gain valuable insights into how unresolved emotions can manifest as physical pain and learn practical tools to foster a healthier relationship with themselves. Grace's early inspiration to become a therapist stemmed from her own experiences with depression, anxiety, and trauma as a teenager. The disconnect between mental and physical health in traditional medical training often overlooks the mind-body connection. Chronic pain can be a manifestation of unresolved emotional trauma, often exacerbated by stressors in life. The concept of trauma includes both "big T" traumas (e.g., abuse, loss) and "little t" traumas (e.g., emotional neglect, bullying). Understanding one's "window of tolerance" is crucial for recognizing how individuals respond to stress and trauma. Pain reprocessing therapy focuses on retraining the brain to stop sending danger signals to the body, allowing for emotional healing. Somatic practices, including breathwork and mindfulness, help individuals reconnect with their bodies and emotions. Grace emphasizes the importance of building a better relationship with oneself to foster healing and emotional regulation. Story of a participant in Grace's program who overcame debilitating symptoms through the mind-body healing method. From healing post-surgery wounds to improving mental health, Cloe shares real-life success stories and explains the science behind these treatments. Tune in to learn more about these innovative therapies and how they can complement your existing health practices. Main Points: Growing up in a health-conscious family: Chloe shares her experience of being raised in a household focused on organic, whole foods and regular exercise. Understanding hyperbaric chamber therapy involves being in a pressurized vessel while breathing in pure oxygen. We discusses biohacking tools offered at Oxynergy2, including targeted red light therapy, infrared sauna, biocharger therapy, lymphatic drainage massages, and IV vitamin drips.  Success stories: Chloe shares inspiring stories of individuals who have experienced life-changing results through hyperbaric oxygen therapy and IV therapy, including improved wound healing, relief from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and increased mobility for individuals with neurological conditions. These therapies are meant to be used as a complement to a healthy lifestyle. She encourages listeners to do their research, consult with their healthcare providers, and consider these therapies as additional tools for optimal health. 71 | How to Rock Perimenopause and Prepare for Menopause with Julie Daniluk

This episode helps women in perimenopause think forward and prepare the best they can for menopause.  The more we prepare our bodies with these healthy living tips, the easier that transition will be. Julie Daniluk helps us have an empowered, positive mindset about going through these female changes and gives us lots of hope about what that season of life can look like. It’s also a great episode for women already in menopause, as we cover lots of things that can help with challenging menopausal symptoms.  Julie Daniluk is a nutritionist who specializes in helping women navigate menopause and improve their overall health. Menopause is directly tied to blood sugar levels, and controlling blood sugar is crucial for managing symptoms like hot flashes. Eating foods in the right order can make a significant difference in blood sugar levels and reduce hot flashes. Mindset is important during menopause, and embracing the transition as a time of empowerment and wisdom can lead to a more positive experience. Addressing past traumas through therapy, such as EMDR, can help improve mindset and overall well-being during menopause. Anti-inflammatory nutrition is key for managing menopause symptoms, including avoiding foods that cause inflammation and focusing on whole, nutrient-dense foods. Women in menopause may need to adjust their diet and lifestyle to support hormonal balance and weight management. Getting professional help, such as testing for thyroid function and working with a nutritionist, can be beneficial for women struggling with menopause symptoms and weight gain. Building a supportive community and seeking accountability can also be helpful in navigating menopause and making positive changes to health and lifestyle. Women should consider reaching out for professional help if they experience symptoms of inflammation, such as joint pain, fatigue, or mood swings, or if they are struggling with weight management during menopause. 70 | Tips on Being Present With Your Family with Erica Garcia

A big part of our lives are about relationships.  As moms, having healthy relationships with our kids plays a big part in our overall health.  I have found, in my 17 years as a mom so far, that being present with my kids really helps foster a healthy dynamic in our relationship. When you are present with someone, it speaks to how much you value them. When your relationships are healthy and positive, especially inside the home - it reduces your stress and increases your joy.  Both of which are great for your wellbeing. Erica, creative genius on family systems and creating moments of presence, joins me on this episode to share about: Planning: Intentionally schedule time to be present with your family Solid routines: Automate parts of your day to free up mental energy for being present No-tech time: Set aside dedicated periods without technology to focus on your family Clearing out clutter and distractions: Create a calm and clutter-free environment to enhance presence. 65 | What are Healthy Fats and Why Do We Need Them? - with Udo Erasmus

There is a lot of confusion in the world about healthy fats. What are the healthy fats? Why do we need them? Why are so many people getting essential fatty acids wrong?  We answer all that and more in this engaging episode with Udo Erasmus. Udo got interested in healthy oils and fats after being poisoned by pesticides and realizing the importance of nutrition for healing and health. The body is constantly rebuilding itself, and the quality of the food, water, and air we consume plays a crucial role in this process. Essential fatty acids, including Omega-3 and Omega-6, are vital for health and cannot be produced by the body. They must be obtained from outside sources. The processing of oils by the industry, including the use of corrosive chemicals and high heat, damages the oils and creates toxic molecules that the body cannot break down. Using damaged oils, especially for frying, can lead to health problems and interfere with normal bodily functions. The balance between Omega-3 and Omega-6 is important, and both types of fatty acids should be obtained from sources made with health in mind. Oils made with health in mind should be used in food after cooking, not for frying, and should be protected from light, oxygen, and heat to retain their health benefits. The fear of fats in the past was misguided, and fats are essential for various bodily functions, including brain health and energy production. Udo has online resources and courses available on his website, including information on fats and digestive health. Udo's products, including oils, digestive enzymes, probiotics, and greens, can be found on his website. 64 | A Functional Nutritionist’s Approach to Mystery Health Issues with Andrea Nakayama

Do you feel like you are doing everything right, but still don’t feel better? Or maybe you know something is off but can’t put your finger on it.  Andrea Nakayama, a Functional Nutritionist, joins me for a chat about mystery health issues.  She shares her personal story of her late husband's diagnosis and death from a brain tumor, which sparked her passion for functional nutrition. Andrea highlights the gaps she experienced in the medical system, including the lack of personalized treatment and the focus on the diagnosis rather than the person. She emphasizes the importance of a therapeutic partnership between patients and providers and the need to focus on the roots of chronic conditions. Andrea introduces the concept of the "3 roots" of chronic conditions: genes, digestion, and inflammation. She discusses the importance of addressing non-negotiables such as sleep, poop, and blood sugar balance for overall health. Andrea encourages individuals to tune into their own bodies and track their symptoms and reactions to different foods and lifestyle factors. She emphasizes the need for a systems-based approach to health and the interconnectedness of different bodily functions. Andrea recommends starting with the basics of sleep, poop, and blood sugar balance before considering specialized testing or interventions. Andrea founded the Functional Nutrition Alliance, where she trains providers in the science and art of functional nutrition practice.
