「And Hannah answered and said, "No, my lord, I am a woman of sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor intoxicating drink, but have poured out my soul before the Lord."」 Amen. Toward the end of the time of the judges, there was a woman named Hannah in the hill country of Ephraim who was barren. She suffered in secret. Hannah had no children, while her husband Elkanah's other wife, Peninnah, had children, which made Hannah bitter. At that time, Hannah went up to Shiloh and prayed at the temple. Eli the high priest saw her, and to him, Hannah's prayer seemed like she was drunk with wine. This became the prelude to the birth of the great judge Samuel.
