Christine Schmitz arbeitet im Juli 1995 als  Krankenschwester für Ärzte ohne Grenzen in Bosnien. Dort wird sie Zeugin des Völkermords von Srebrenica. Und sie erlebt einen Moment, der sie danach ihr Leben lang begleitet. Ein junger Bosnier übergibt ihr seine einjährige Tochter, bevor er von einem serbischen Soldaten abgeführt wird. Christine bringt das Mädchen in Sicherheit und hilft bei der Evakuierung. In den Jahren danach fragt sie sich: Was ist aus dem Mädchen geworden? Und was aus dem Vater?   Lange bekommt sie keine Antwort auf die Fragen. Dann bekommt sie plötzlich eine Email.
