100 point new member minimum returns

from DVC Newscast · host Shannon Ford, Peter Scheidle and the My DVC Points Community

This week, Shannon, Peter, and Vicky discuss the finer points of the DVC new member minimum, the return of Magic Keys and Annual Passes, the closure of Splash Mountain, and release dates for the 2024 member cruises. DVC announces on-sale date for two 2024 DVC Member Cruises We previously talked about the two DVC member cruises for 2024, which are a 7-night Mediterranean cruise May 18th - 25th and a 5-night Caribbean cruise including two stops at lighthouse point and one at Castaway Cay, June 14th - 19th. Disney has since provided the on-sale date as April 22nd for both cruises. Member cruises frequently sell out very quickly. Source: DVC website Disneyland Magic Keys resume sales in all categories Disneyland annual passes, known as Magic Keys, have been on and off sale for the last year, and on April 10th, Disney resumed selling all four categories of Magic Keys. Was announced shortly after the announcement that all Walt Disney World Annual Passes would go back on sale. The obvious conclusion is that Disney expects a weak quarter and uses the Annual Passes to increase income. DVC announces new member buy-in is reduced to 100 points Lead: Peter Disney has lowered the minimum purchase for new members to DVC. Where they had previously raised the minimum to 150 points in June 2021, the number has again been reduced to 100 points minimum. Disney did NOT change the minimum for what they call “Membership Extras” and we often refer to as “Blue Card Benefits”. This still requires 150 points Direct purchase. This also does not effect existing member buying requirements. Existing members can purchase 50 or 25 points as a minimum depending on the resort. The reason for this is likely two-fold; DVC is projecting that many new members at the Disneyland Hotel will be looking for more minor contracts. DVC also has had very soft sales of late. If you think about how Disney has increased prices on older resorts over the current new ones, the minimum buy-in is now more than $30,000 for almost all resorts; they likely wouldn’t realize they are squeezing out a lot of potential customers this way. (Wouldn’t be surprised if this is a common complaint with people taking the tour.) By returning to 100 points, membership becomes affordable to more, and getting people in the door makes it easier to sell them more points later. Source: DVCNews Splash Mountain closing in DL on May 30th. We finally have an announcement for Splash Mountain’s closure in Disneyland, and it’s a month and a half away on May 30th. So if you’re going to get one final plunge in, you better get your park passes in place. Expect a madhouse on that date. But on the good side, Rogers the Musical opens in DCA on June 30th.
