from Tend HER Wild Podcast

Today we have an inspiring conversation with an expert in all things politics, Amanda Litman, co-founder and executive director of Run for Something, a group supporting young progressives running for office. Today we discuss: • Amanda’s early years and a defining moment in high school when she skipped class and went to a local college to hear Barack Obama speak, an event that would change the course of life.• Amanda’s choice to attend Northwestern in Chicago, her decision partially driven by her desire to be close to Obama’s office because of her hopes to someday work for him. • How her dream came true when she got her first job on Obama’s campaign. • Amanda’s work on Hilary Clinton’s campaign and how this work was so personal as the wanted to be apart of the first woman elected to the presidency. • The shock she experienced the day Hilary lost and the lessons learned through the entire process, including the fire it created in her to help birth her business Run for Something. • Why Amanda’s passion has turned to grassroots politics and helping solve the problem of finding an entry point into politics for young individuals new to politics. • The hope Amanda has for the future as we shift into a younger more diverse electorate and the up and coming young people running for local offices. • Thoughts on gerontocracy (government run by the elderly) and the effect that a lack of diversity in governance can present.
