1010 WINS Submission for Murrow Award in Breaking News Coverage: Sunset Park Subway Shooting

April 12th in 2022 originally started as a day that, as one of our anchors put it, seemed to start off with a more muted headline concerning inflation prices among products. Sadly that was not the case after traffic reporter Karen Stuart for 1010 WINS started pointing out some serious delays around the N train at the Sunset Park station.What started as a smoke warning quickly elevated to numerous reporters of gunfire with multiple people wounded, as much as over a dozen. Frank James, at the time unidentified, used smoke bombs in a subway car on the N train and started firing indiscriminately into the crowds.People were running away in the trains trying to escape the smoke and gunfire with scattered reports from witnesses and police painting a grave picture of a mass casualty shooting happening right in the subways of New York City.1010 WINS was one of the first stations on the ground that was filtering through the reports to give the most accurate picture of what was happening.
