103. Lyz Lenz: This American Ex-Wife

from Tend HER Wild Podcast

Today we have a rich conversation with Lyz Lenz, a true wild woman and writer who just released her fourth book “This American Ex-Wife” that instantly hit the New York Times best selling list.  This conversation is hilarious, thought provoking, and may hit close to home for many of you out there. Today we discuss:  Her early years in Texas as the second oldest of eight children where she was homeschooled, expected to follow “the rules”, and shown the importance of being a “good person” vs having a “good life”. The fateful moment when Lyz found the box in the crawl space of her basement and truly saw the reality of her marriage. The hard question: Is marriage the happy ending we’re told it is? and why women often carry the burden of blame in unhappy marriages. The public experience of getting fired for political backlash, the storm that followed and the resilience and community it took to hold strong and recover. Life post-divorce, the pathway to having it all, and navigating co-parenting. Bio: Lyz Lenz is a New York Times bestselling author, whose writing has appeared in The Washington Post, the Columbia Journalism Review, The New York Times, and others. She is also the host of the This American Ex-Wife podcast.  Lyz received her MFA in creative writing from Lesley University. She lives in Iowa with her two kids and two dogs.  She writes a regular newsletter, Men Yell At Me, where she explores the intersection of politics and our bodies in red-state America.  Joe Biden once called her a “real sweetheart.” Alan Dershowitz called her “fifth rate.”  The Iowa GOP called her “Crass and unprofessional.” Learn more: Lyz Lenz Lyz’ books Lyz on Instagram We’d love to hear from you: In season two we’d love to hear from you, our community.  What are your thoughts on re-wilding and living your authentic life?  Please call or e-mail us with your story, questions, topics you’d like to explore, guests you’d like us to reach out to….
