Robert Elsmere by Mary Augusta Ward (1851 - 1920) LibriVox Essentially the book covers the life of Robert Elsmere, a boyishly intellectual clergyman. The first part covers his meeting with and eventual marriage to Catherine Leyburn. After a period as a country vicar, Robert’s meetings with the local squire, an intellectual atheist, lead to his having a crisis of faith. The pair move to London where Robert works with the poor and uneducated. The lives of the people closely associated with the pair are also covered. The book is set against the late Victorian world and its reactions to Darwinism, Unitarianism and the rise of secularism and modernism. At the time, it was a runaway best seller and its attack on orthodox Christianity was fiercely debated by all, including Gladstone. - Summary by Simon Evers Rise of the Runelords Connor Boesch We are Clinton’s Core Classics - an actual play podcast playing Pathfinder’s Rise of the Runelords. In the podcast episodes, we will attempt to bring together researchers, professors, and students in the CS field to break down seemingly complex and lesser-known topics in Computer Science and related disciplines. Through this medium, we also hope to give rise to more conversations pertaining to gender and its role in academia and other professional domains, especially in the STEM fields. For the first episode, we have Chanda Grover, a Computer Science PhD student at Ashoka University, break down Transfer Learning, her area of interest in Machine Learning. Healing the Children Podcraftr In the 'Healing the Children' podcast episode, Divineearthkeeper delves into the disconcerting trends in children's mental health, particularly focusing on increased suicide rates and self-harm behaviors. The presenter highlights the shocking statistics, including a significant rise in hospital visits due to self-injury attempts and suicides among children. Shedding light on the bleak fact that suicide is the second-leading cause of death among children, the episode urges us to reassess our parenting methods and the impact of our unresolved emotional wounds on our young ones. With disturbing figures of child runaways, the podcast introspects on the current methods of upbringing and emphasizes the importance of love, understanding, and empathy in nurturing children.
